Nicknamed “the gateway to South America”, the Republic of Colombia is located in the northwestern part of the continent where South America meets with Central and North America. It borders Panama to the northwest, Venezuela, Brazil to the east, and Peru and Ecuador to the south. The national currency is the Colombian peso, its capital city is Bogotá and a population of about 49,592,000 people making it the fifth-largest country in Latin America, and with Spanish being its official language, it is home to the second largest population of Spanish speakers in the world.
With a people as diverse as its landscapes, the climate is generally tropical; the rainforest region experiences more rainfall and monsoons than other regions. The Atlantic lowlands have savanna conditions of dominantly wet and dry seasons. In the mountains, it ranges from moderate rainfall and temperatures to frequent winds and fog at its lower levels and perpetual snow and ice at its highest elevations.
Due to its biodiversity and multicultural nature, each city you visit offers a unique journey and experience., with different foods, music and cultures. There are 6 regions which house their own departments (32): The Andean Region (Antioquia, Boyacá, Caldas, Cundinamarca, Huila, Norte de Santander, Quindío, Risaralda, Santander, Tolima), The Amazon Region (Amazonas, Caquetá, Guainía, Guaviare, Putumayo, Vaupés), The Pacific Region (Valle del Cauca, Cauca, Chocó, Nariño), The Caribbean Region (Atlántico, Bolívar, Cesar, Córdoba, La Guajira, Magdalena, Sucre), The Orinoco Region (Arauca, Casanare, Meta, Vichada), The Insular Region (San Andres y Providence).
