The Fort Henry National Historic Site is located on Point Henry in Kingston, Ontario, near the Catafalque River. Henry Hamilton, the previous Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of Quebec, was honored with the fort and the site on which it was built.
During the War of 1812, the first fort was built on Point Frederick to protect the Kingston Royal Naval Dockyard (now the Royal Military College of Canada) from a possible American invasion and to monitor maritime activity on the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. In the 1830s, the ancient fort was demolished and replaced by a considerably bigger structure to guard the naval dockyard and the Rideau Canal's southern entrance. The fort was renovated in the 1930s and is now a popular tourist destination. It is a great attraction for individuals who love history and law.
