A third home game in a week as we welcome Cray Valley PM to the OHOB and congratulate them on reaching the first round of the FA Cup with a fantastic tie at The Valley to look forward too. With three teams from our league in the first round (has that ever happened before?) the table is still unsettled with two clubs having only played three games. So it’s important to keep picking up points and last Saturday’s draw with Chichester can be regarded IMO as a good result, given their form and the fact that we looked a bit leggy in our third game in a week. Tuesday was a frustrating experience for an hour but once we’d equalised we looked the stronger side and now look forward to see who we will be playing in the last 16 of the Senior Cup. All in all a good week, which we’d love to round off with a positive result today. East Grinstead Town FC is an unincorporated association / members club and a Community Amateur Sports Club (reg no CASC 02270). MANAGER’S NOTES

Drew Cooney

We welcome everyone back for today’s game against high-flying Cray. Special mention must go to Steve McKimm and Barry Moore for their excellent achievement in getting to the first round proper of the FA Cup. Their excellent form in both this and the FA Trophy have meant Cray have only played three league games to date and remain unbeaten with two wins and a draw. I personally think Cray have been one of the best teams in this league for the past couple of seasons, but with the arrival of Steve and Barry I hold them as title favourites so today is going to be a huge test for my lads. We have had another excellent week, a point last week against in-form Chichester at home followed up with a tough Tuesday night game against Hassocks in the Senior Cup. We made several changes for the Hassocks game as it was important to give a few of the lads a rest and more importantly get 90 minutes into a few of lads who have waited patiently for their opportunity. We started very brightly, creating some really good chances but having not taken these we seemed to then sit back and got caught out on the break a couple of times before a poor mix up at the back allowed them to go 1-0 up. As much as I got stuck into them at half time, I was always confident that the players would get us back into the game and once we got the first goal we were always favourites to go on and win. Another couple of goals from Max is great for him and us, but we need to start chipping in with goals from other areas of the team too.

It was good to get some first minutes into the returning Kie Douglas who did very well when he came on, along with first minutes of the season for Teriq Anderson and Tariq Straker. Also, there was a debut for young centre half Jasper Tetlow, who looks a great prospect with a bright future. We will put everything into today’s fixture as we have a Saturday off next week, so all the more important that we try to keep adding to our points total with a tough return fixture at home against Sittingbourne to come in a fortnight. We look forward to seeing you all and thank you as always for your support.

CHAIRMAN’S NOTES Good afternoon everyone and welcome to East Court for this afternoon’s Isthmian League South East Division match against Cray Valley PM. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all Wasps supporters, the Millers’ players, management, officials and supporters as well as today’s referee Jack Oxenham and his assistants Declan Wyatt and Ffion Eade. I trust everyone enjoys their brief stay and our hospitality. Steve McKimm’s Millers have played 16 matches this season but only three of these have been in the league, The Cups have kept them more than occupied. Their last match was in the Kent Cup on Tuesday which they bowed out of losing to Punjab United, but they are enjoying great success in the FA Cup and FA Trophy and long may it continue. We wish them all the very best in the next rounds. They beat Isthmian Premier Enfield Town 5-2 on Saturday and earned themselves a superb tie against League One Charlton Athletic in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup on 4th November. They beat another Isthmian Premier side Carshalton Athletic the week before in the FA Trophy and now travel to Isthmian Premier Chatham Town in the 1st Round Proper next Saturday.

afternoon. We are currently in seventh place with 10 points after eight matches. Next Saturday’s scheduled trip to Ramsgate has been postponed due to their Cup success – they play Hythe Town in the 1st Round of the FA Trophy. That means that we will make a long midweek trip on Wednesday 29th November for the rescheduled fixture. Our next match will be at home on Saturday 4th November against Sittingbourne, followed by a trip to Littlehampton the following Saturday. Our Under 23s will be in action here this Thursday when they host Chichester City in the second round of the Sussex Under-23s County Cup (ko 7.30pm). and then again here the following Tuesday against Ash United in the Suburban League Central Division. Thank you all for coming along this afternoon and whatever the outcome of the match, I trust everyone enjoys their visit to East Court and I wish you all a safe journey home.

Enjoy the match, Richard.

Cray’s last league match was a 7-2 win over Phoenix Sports way back on August Bank Holiday Monday and the other two were a draw with Broadbridge Heath and an opening day win at Sittingbourne.

We are now unbeaten in four matches following a 3-1 win over Hassocks in the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday night, in which Max Walsh bagged another two goals bringing his tally this season to eight. That win followed a 1-1 draw here last Saturday against Chichester City and three wins on the trot against Broadbridge Heath, Horndean and Ashford United. The Millers will be on a high despite their midweek defeat, but Drew and the lads will be determined to maintain our current unbeaten run this www.egtfc.co.uk

blowing – enough to cancel the ferries on one day.) Bruce also talks about a recent league game against Carshalton which we had won 20 – the first time in seven league games that we had beaten them. Bruce also reminds us that we had already flown over to Guernsey as we had played there in our first league match in August. In that match we had made a good start with an early goal but Guernsey had then taken over to win 4-2. Both of our girls came from Marcus Elliott. Not surprisingly both manager Matt Longhurst and Chairman Richard Tramontin made much of that win over Carshalton – the programme had six photos showing action from the game and hoped that we could now build on it. The league table in the programme showed us third from bottom with Guernsey just three points above us. But it was Guernsey who flew back home with the points as they won 2-0. If you’ve had your memories jogged by this piece then I’d be happy to hear from you at lestermedcalf@btinternet.com

Cover photo from the game against Guernsey six years ago.

I’m not going to go too far back for a look at the programmes for games played in the past on today’s date. We start with East Grinstead v Walton Casuals on Tuesday 21 October 2014 in our first season in the Isthmian league. However this wasn’t an Isthmian League game – it was an FA Trophy replay after a goalless draw on the previous Saturday. Whether we had drafted a programme before the first match or simply did the best we could in the time available after Saturday I don’t know. Chairman Richard Tramontin’s notes suggest that the 0-0 match hadn’t been much of a game and he goes on to remind us that this replay would in fact be our third game against Walton Casuals as we had already played our away league match against them. This league match had been another draw though both teams had at least managed to score a goal. Our goal having come from Layton Schaff. The programme’s league table shows us that ourselves and Walton Casuals were the two bottom clubs (with Horsham third from bottom). We did have six more points than them, though we had played two more matches. Manager Simon Funnell suggests that we had had chances to have won the match on Saturday – and perhaps we really should have done so with much the better opportunities. And as seemed to happen regularly there would have to be changes in the team for the replay with some players unable to get the time off work. So who made it through to the next round? I’m afraid it wasn’t us and we got a bit of a thumping as Walton Casuals won 6-1. Well at least we scored – thanks to John Sinclair. Moving on a few years we have East Grinstead v Guernsey on Saturday 21 October 2017, this time an Isthmian League match. Programme editor Bruce Talbot welcomes Guernsey and hopes that some recently forecast 70mph winds have not happened. (My wife and I went to Guernsey in the middle of September and there were strong winds

CLUB NOTICE Supporter Behaviour In the last few years the club’s supporter base has grown and Drew Cooney and the players truly appreciate the vocal backing they get home and away at every match. Unfortunately, we received isolated reports of bad behaviour and foul language at home games last season. Those complaints have grown significantly this season and at the recent fixture against Three Bridges foul and abusive language was directed at match officials and opposition players and objects thrown onto the field of play.

Verbal warnings by committee members are not having any effect and if we allow this anti-social behaviour to continue there is every likelihood of a sanction from the league and or the FA. We appreciate the vocal support for the team, but we also have to protect our reputation as a familyfriendly, community club proud to represent East Grinstead. As a result, any under-16 attending home games will have to be accompanied by an adult, who will be responsible for their behaviour. Also, abuse of individuals and excessive foul language will not be tolerated. Offenders will be removed from the stadium and will receive a ban and, if applicable, season tickets will be rescinded with no refund offered. The club will not hesitate to call upon assistance from Sussex Police if required.

Mattie Pierson shows great control against Chichester.

Not only is this totally unacceptable, it is against the ground and league regulations and is forcing fair-minded supporters to stop coming to matches because their enjoyment is being spoiled by a small number.
