THE BRUCE LYNTON AUTOMOTIVE GROUP HAS PROUDLY BEEN SERVING THE GOLD COAST AND NORTHERN RIVERS AREAS FOR OVER 40 YEARS. The Lynton family founded Bruce Lynton BMW in 1974, with the dealership located on Nerang Street in Southport until mid-2016. The Nerang Street site was home to BMW sales, servicing, finance, parts and accessories for 42 years. In August 2016 the Lynton family made a very emotional decision to sell the BMW and MINI franchises on the Gold Coast, after representing the BMW marque for 42 years and the MINI marque for 15 years. The Bruce Lynton Automotive Group currently represents the Jaguar, Land Rover, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Ssangyong and Tata marques as well as Bruce Lynton Quality Used Cars which specialises in quality pre-owned vehicles.

A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM BERIC LYNTON

This will be the 17th year that the Bruce Lynton Charity Ball has been running on the Gold Coast and it remains to be one of the most highly anticipated events on the social calendar. Over the years, we have helped to raise over $1.7 million for local charities. In 2016 alone, we raised $118,000 for our beneficiaries - Cancer Council Queensland, Guide Dogs Queensland, 4 ASD Kids, Men Of Business , Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation and Youngcare. We are extremely grateful for the incredible support we continuously receive from both local and interstate businesses through generous donations year on year. Without the support of our business partners, none of this could be made possible. Every hour of every day, an Australian learns they will lose their sight. Nine of these people will eventually go blind. By 2020, more than 350,000 people will be blind or vision impaired, which is enough to fill Suncorp Stadium nearly seven times. That’s a lot of people that will need help.

with low or no vision regain and retain their mobility, independence and confidence – which can be as simple as the ability to get out of their front door and go wherever they want to, confidently and safely. While Guide Dogs are the furry faces of our organisation, they are just one small part of what we do and how we can help.

Life with a vision impairment can be a very isolating experience, cutting people off from society and leading to depression and loneliness. At times it can feel as though no one understands you and that some of the freedoms of life are simply out of reach.

We are passionate about finding the best mobility solutions that match a person’s needs and exceed their expectations. We carefully assess each and every person who needs our help to ensure we find the best services and support programs to suit their needs and lifestyle.

For most Queenslanders, freedom means having the right to think, speak and act as they want. Some people feel free when they go to the beach, when they go out for a run, or when they can go wherever they like, whenever they like, simply on impulse.

We offer a wide range of free Orientation and Mobility services, including: • Guide Dog mobility • White Cane training • Electronic Travel Aid training • Community and professional education workshops • Counselling by our own staff psychologists • Low vision support groups and peer mentoring, and • Special mobility programs for children and young people

For a blind or vision impaired person, freedom often means just being able to live a “normal life”. This is where the right support and training really counts to make the challenges of a world without sight, possible. Guide Dogs Queensland helps empower blind or vision impaired Queenslanders of all ages to live full and independent lives. Every year we help thousands of people

Cancer Council Queensland is the State’s leading non-government community organisation in cancer control, touching the lives of thousands of people by working with, and in support of our community. More than 25,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Queensland this year, with one in two people diagnosed before the age of 85. The support of many thousands of fundraisers, volunteers and donors across Queensland makes our work possible. Our supporters enable us to continue to fund vital cancer research and prevention and early detection programs, and to assist Queensland families affected by cancer. Our goal is cancer control through all actions that aim to reduce the burden of cancer on all individuals and the community in support of our vision for a cancer free future. Events like The Bruce Lynton Charity Ball enable us to continue with world-leading research and support services for patients and those affected by cancer.

4 ASD KIDS

In 2009 we went public about our son Max’s battle with autism. It’s something that we considered very deeply but felt by telling our story we may be able to assist families with similar challenges. After the initial publicity we were so overwhelmed by the messages of support and assistance that we formed our charity, 4 ASD Kids. Our dream is to be able to change the lives of families with children battling with an Autism Spectrum Disorder by assisting them to access the early intervention treatment that we believe is critical to giving these kids the best chance at leading a normal life and reaching their full potential.

YOUNGCARE

THE ISSUE This morning, over 7,000 young Australians with high care needs woke up in aged care. A further 700,000 young people with high care needs are being cared for at home by loved ones often with limited support, simply due to a lack of age-appropriate alternatives. YOUNGCARE’S MISSION It is Youngcare’s mission to support young people with high care needs to exit or avoid admission into aged care right now. YOUNGCARE’S WORK Youngcare is driven by the belief that all young Australians, regardless of their care needs, should live a young life with choice, independence and dignity. With no recurring government funding, Youngcare works to champion the voices of young Australians with high care needs, raising critical awareness and funds to achieve our mission through four key programs: Housing Solutions address the critical shortage of specialist disability accommodation in Australia. Youngcare is driving change and developing replicable and practical age-appropriate alternatives to aged care. Currently Youngcare provides a home for 28

young people with high care needs (39 in total since 2007) across apartments in Sinnamon Park, Brisbane, Coomera on the Gold Coast and a Share House at Wooloowin. Further planned projects include apartments at Albany Creek, Brisbane, Wooloowin (stage two), and apartments in Auburn, Sydney and in Tweed Heads, northern New South Wales. Support Programs: Youngcare’s grants programs have delivered over $3.3 million to 576 young people with high care needs to fund essential equipment, home modifications and respite services to enable young people to remain living at home with loved ones, or make the transition out of aged care to more age-appropriate accommodation. Youngcare Connect: a free national support line provides information to young people with high care needs, their families and carers when the disability, housing and health care systems feel like a maze.

MEN OF BUSINESS (MOB)

On the Gold Coast alone, more than 500 teenage boys fall through the cracks of the system each year. Of these boys: • 82% of them have tried drugs. • 66% live with one parent or guardian. • 11% don’t know who their parents are. Most programs designed to help have rigid criteria and inflexible hours. The Men Of Business (MOB) program is different and works within school terms and hours. The MOB program is a 9-week intensive mentoring and personal training program designed to empower teenage boys aged 14-17 with positive male role models. The 12 participant program educates students with our core beliefs being:

The outcomes of the young men that have been on the journey of MOB are assessed at the end of the 9 weeks. Data is collected on behaviour, attendance, and grades. If school is not suited for these young men, career opportunities are provided. In the five years that MOB has been running, we have assisted over 1,000 youth at risk to reengage with education and where necessary, open doors to careers.

PERRY CROSS SPINAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION

No one wants to experience life with paralysis. There are approximately 12,000 recorded cases of spinal cord injury in Australia, and each year there are 300 - 400 new incidents reported.

Queensland rendered Perry a C2 quadriplegic, unable to move from the neck down and unable to breathe without a mechanical ventilator attached to his electric wheelchair.

Quadriplegia, paralysis of all four limbs, occurs in 50% of all these cases.

In spite of his injury, over the following two decades Perry has lived an extraordinary life, most notably in establishing the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation (PCSRF). PCSRF has one clear vision: to find a cure for paralysis. The discovery of a cure is something that Perry Cross firmly believes will happen. It’s just a matter of when.

There is no known cure for a spinal cord injury. The impacts of spinal cord injury are usually lifelong and devastating. Young men in the prime of their life are most likely to sustain a spinal cord injury, being four times more likely to sustain spinal cord injuries than women. Perry Cross is one such person whose life was unforeseeably and profoundly changed in an instant. In 1994, a devastating rugby union accident on the grounds of Ballymore in

PCSRF is currently funding two exciting spinal cord injury research projects at the Eskitis Institute, Griffith University, with plans to undertake a clinical trial in 2018 to progress the journey towards a cure for paralysis.
