2012 FALL MEDIA GUIDE

2012 Season Outlook: The Women’s Tennis Program is looking to return to the top tier of NJCAA tennis this fall. The program has won six NJCAA Region XIX championships and competed in the NJCAA National Tournament in five of the last six seasons. The team missed a chance to participate last season and will look to get back to the National Tournament this year which will be held at the USTA/Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. The Roadrunners will have a slightly new look this season as Brian Rowan has been moved into the head coaching position. Rowan has been the assistant coach for the past four seasons and has been the head coach of the men’s program since 2006. This position will allow him more time to implement his tennis philosophy and also to spend more time recruiting for future seasons. Lauren Morgan will stay on with the staff as the assistant coach. The lone returner from last season’s team is Jackie Hanley. Hanley was one of the teams most consistent players last season and earned All-Region XIX honors for her role at 4th singles and also 3rd doubles. She will move up the lineup this season and is likely to play one of the top singles and doubles positions. A talented group of newcomers will look to make their mark this season as well. Terra McHenry (Pitman HS) and Tori Yeich (Pennsville HS) may have been high school rivals but the two have both played well early on for GCC and could team up in doubles this season. Michelle Duerstock was the top singles player at Kingsway HS as a senior and will look to make an impact on the singles lineup at GCC this year. Kelly Stanton (Williamstown HS) is athletic and will help right away for the Roadrunners in both singles and doubles. Jessica Barney, Laura Steffen, and Marissa DiCamillo will round out the lineup and all should see time at either singles or doubles. The Roadrunners open their Region XIX schedule Saturday September 8th at home against Bergen CC. Ocean CC are the defending regional champions and the Roadrunners will face them on September 19th and then again on October 4th. The team will face other NJCAA Division III foes when Hagerstown CC (MD) travels to GCC and then against Suffolk CC on a road trip to NY.
