Gloucester County College Softball National Champions — Best Record in Program History — 500 Career Wins for Coach D 2011 was a year to be remembered in Gloucester County College history as the Roadrunners captured the NJCAA Division III National Championship for the first time, achieved the best record in school history, and allowed Coach Steve DePasquale to reach a milestone with 500 career wins. After starting the season by losing their first three games, the Roadrunners would lose only two more games the rest of the season to finish with a 47-5 record. That record does not include three forfeit wins acquired during the season. The Roadrunners captured the top seed in the Region XIX tournament, defeated Brookdale in a winner take all championship game to win the tournament, and then swept through the National Championship Tournament defeating the College of DuPage {IL] in the final game. The first round victory over Anne Arundel Community College allowed Head Coach Steve Depasquale to pick up his milestone 500th career win. The Roadrunners were a team with great chemistry during the season. Each player performed to the best of their ability and rooted for the success of their teammates. The Roadrunners were a combination of veteran sophomores and talented freshman. Three quality pitchers lead GCC during the season. Sophomore Katie Trotter, Region XIX Tournament MVP and National Tournament MVP was the ace of the staff. Sophomore Brittany Sullivan provided stability and consistency in her pitching. Freshman Tina Morgan made a big splash by hurling two nohitters [one a perfect game], and by being the winning pitcher in the National Championship game. Sophomore Caitlin Pipolo and Freshman Rachel Enders handled the catching chores. Catlin was one of the leading hitters in the national for NJCAA Division III for most of the season. She has outstanding in her skills behind the plate and her enthusiasm was second to none. Rachel, who doubled as a first baseman, was a very capable player until a knee injury curtailed her season. The infield was filled with talented players. Sophomore Lindsey O’Roarke, Freshman Rachel Enders, and Freshman Sarah Buchhofer handled first base. Freshman Justina Mattia was the mainstay at second base. Justina earned a spot on the National Championship tournament team. She launched a dramatic two out home run which provided the winning margin in the semifinal game against Tompkins-Cortland Community College {NY]. Freshman Briana Molino was outstanding at shortstop. Briana was outstanding both in the field and at the bat. As the leadoff hitter she was the catalyst to producing runs and fielder her position with grace and effectiveness. Sophomore Lindsay Sampolsky was outstanding as the third baseball. A power hitter and fearless in the field, Lindsay was one of the leaders of the team. An all region player, Lindsay was counted on for the key hits and the big plays. Sophomore Emily Howell was a valuable utility player for GCC as she was capable of playing numerous positions The outfield was patrolled by Sophomore Rhiannon Vanvorhis, Sophomore Mary Kate Covely, Sophomore Nicole Tererri , Freshman Tina Morgan, and Freshman Courtney Kane. Each player handled their position well and were interchangeable throughout the season. Head Coach Steven Depasquale completed his 17th season with the Roadrunners. He has a career record of 503-215-2 career record and was named the NJCAA Division III Softball Coach of the Year for 2011. His 2007 team was also a Region XIX champion and finished third in the national tournament. Assistant Coach Mark Enders has capably handled the duties as assistant coach. His primary duties are handling the outfielders and calling pitches. Coach Enders was an assistant at Audubon High School before joining the Roadrunners
