Susannah Parker History Teacher B.A. (Bates College) M.Ed. (Harvard University) Appointed: 2011 sparker@brooksschool.org Joining the Brooks faculty in 2011, Susannah first discovered the joys of the independent school experience as a day student at Phillips Academy. After high school, Susannah attended Bates College with the intent to pursue environmental studies and art history. Realizing that she spent all of her spare time volunteering in the local Lewiston, Maine, schools, she changed tacks. After earning her B.A. in sociology with a concentration in the sociology of education, she went on to attain her M.Ed. in risk and prevention in adolescence from Harvard University. She also recently completed her CAGS in special education. Before joining the Brooks faculty as a learning specialist, Susannah spent seven years as a special educator in the Andover public schools at both the high school and middle school levels. So far at Brooks, she has been excited to be a part of the team that transformed a former chemistry lab into a proper Learning Center to better help students understand their learning styles. In addition to her daily 1:1 work with students, one of the highlights of her year is Winter Term, when she takes Brooks students to the YWCA in neighboring Lawrence to work in preschool classrooms. A native of Andover, she lives off campus with her daughter, Carolyn, and her anxietyridden cat, Daisy. She enjoys spending as much time as possible in or on the waters of Southport Island, Maine. 65
