About Sonoma State University Athletics The goal of the Sonoma State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is to provide a positive, equitable, and diverse environment for the student-athletes and staff. All athletic staff members are responsible for fostering these priorities via role modeling and mentoring student-athletes while upholding a competitive spirit that stresses amateurism, ethical conduct, good sportsmanship, and rules compliance. Priorities for all student-athletes include: Academic Excellence, Competitive Success, and Community Outreach.

National: NCAA Division II
Division II is an intermediate-level division of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. It offers an alternative to both the highly competitive (and highly expensive) level of intercollegiate sports offered in NCAA Division I and to the no athletic scholarship environment offered in Division III. Divisions II and III were formerly known collectively as the NCAA College Division. Currently there are nearly 300 full or provisional members of Division II.

The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) has been the nation’s most successful intercollegiate athletic conferences since its establishment in December 1938. The 13-member league is home to some of the nation’s finest NCAA Division II athletic programs in Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, Cal State L.A., Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Stanislaus, Chico State, CSU, Monterey Bay, Humboldt State, UC San Diego, and San Francisco State, in addition to Sonoma State. In 201516, the conference welcomed its newest member, Cal State San Marcos.
