BEGIN YOUR INTERNATIONAL PATHWAY TO SUCCESS
The Brock International Pathway to Success represents a guide to help international students prepare for their first term at Brock University and in Canada. You’re encouraged to complete various steps by either attending an event or engaging in the specified tasks. Once you have completed all the steps, you will receive a certificate of completion and a chance to win great prizes.

PREPARE FOR SUCCESS INDIVIDUALIZED ACADEMIC SUPPORT FROM BROCK INTERNATIONAL SERVICES
Brock International Services is here to provide academic support during your studies.
1-ON-1 APPOINTMENTS All international students are eligible to book virtual appointments to discuss academic skills and the Canadian Classroom.
ACADEMIC COACH A program to support first-year students in developing their academic skills. Your coach will act as your guide as you begin your studies with weekly appointments and ongoing support via email.
INTRODUCTORY WEBINARS Prior to the start of the semester, we offer four (4) webinars to introduce students to important topics that are imperative to their academic success as Brock students. They cover online learning platforms at Brock, academic skills for university, academic integrity and plagiarism, and seminars and communication at Brock.
ACADEMIC SKILLS WORKSHOPS We offer live, one-hour workshops that can not only help students adjust to academic/work environments in Canada, but also allow them to learn new skills for university and strengthen their academic skills (e.g., essay writing and collaborating with others, etc.) to ensure they have a strong foundation as they study.
ACADEMIC SKILLS DROP-IN SESSIONS Students can meet with an expert to talk about their academic skills (e.g., time management, writing, citation, presenting, etc.), without the need to schedule an appointment. Offered three times a week at various times to account for various schedules, our drop-in sessions are a great way to receive immediate support without waiting for an email reply or a scheduled meeting.
RESOURCES ON SAKAI HUB OF ONLINE LEARNING As an international student, you have access to our Sakai resource site. Sakai is an online hub of resources and information with all the essential information you will need to be successful before, during, and after your studies at Brock. Whether you need specific academic skills support or you simply want to ensure that you are ready to study in Canada, our Sakai site is there solely to help you throughout your time with us at Brock.
STUDY PARTNER PROGRAM International students are matched with other international students in their online classes. Together, you will schedule study sessions, share tips, and develop valuable skills collaborating as a team.
SUPPORT WITH CANADIAN IMMIGRATION DOCUMENTS FROM BROCK INTERNATIONAL SERVICES
A dedicated team of Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIAs) and Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) is here to guide you in understanding Canadian immigration regulations. If you need help with your visa, study permit, and work permit, or you want to ask when you can work part-time or full-time, they are here to help you sort through processes and paperwork.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
Brock has developed resources on how to improve your competencies for future employment. You will be provided with opportunities to engage with international student alumni, attend community job fairs, volunteer in Niagara, and find employment on or off campus during both your time at Brock and after graduation.

MEDICAL INSURANCE AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
All international students at Brock will be enrolled in mandatory basic health insurance, known as the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) to help you enjoy a worry-free stay even when you have health concerns. It covers eligible doctor and hospital visits and necessary medical tests and services provided and referred by a doctor. You will also have access to a supplementary insurance plan through your Student Union. We are here to guide you in understanding and utilizing your medical insurance plan in Ontario. 1-on-1 appointments and information sessions are available through your journey at Brock.

We are here to support you along your journey as an international student and ensure your success at Brock and beyond. Through our programming, you will be immersed into Canadian student life and introduced to all the services Brock has to offer. We will familiarize you with the beautiful Niagara region and introduce you to our community partners for fun social events and volunteer opportunities. We will be your guides during and after your time at Brock as you make Niagara your new home.
Brock International ExperienceBU The role of Brock International is to equip both International and Canadian students with the tools and skills to succeed in a rapidly changing, highly diverse and competitive education structure and global economy. We offer a wide range of programs and services for International students to adjust to a new academic life at Brock and to life in Canada, such as: • • • • • • •

Become our next Global Connection! Sharing the stories of more than 2,000 international students that call Brock University home. Students are asked to answer a few simple questions in an online form and include a photo of themselves to tell their story. Each week, you will learn more about your classmates from students all over the world and discover a campus community that feels connected even if we’re not physically together.

Visiting International Scholars Monica Ceron, from Mexico, and Karla Gavilanez, from Ecuador, participated in the program in 2018.
Our Global Scholars Office welcomes the world’s brightest minds from academic partner institutions to visit Brock to collaborate with our faculty members on academic interests, research activities and teach in their area of expertise. We also provide Brock faculty and students with global learning opportunities to support the growing internationalization of Brock’s community with valuable scholarships or research funding.
