The FLS Core Classes are the Key to Your Learning Success FLS core classes are a major part of our English Programs. Made up of 9 levels, the core sequence is an integrated skills program that teaches speaking, listening, reading and writing through a modern curriculum, teacher coaching and communicative activities. Our system simulates the way you learned your native language, through the natural use of all skills together. The daily core class uses modern, colorful textbooks with fascinating topics, an American reader and regular testing of your progress. Each class also includes English Everywhere Hot Sheets, with key vocabulary, conversation starters and important lesson highlights. The core class levels will take students from a foundational understanding of English grammar all the way to the proďŹ ciency required for success at an American college.

FLS English Programs Academic English Our high-powered Academic English Program has six hours per day of quality language instruction, including our Core Class, your choice of two electives or one premium test prep class and a daily Academic Workshop. This option is designed for students intending to transfer to an American college or university or to quickly attain English fluency.

The Intensive English Program is a comprehensive approach to studying English. You’ll have the advantage of three different classes: an integrated Core Class at one of nine FLS levels, a focused elective class covering a specific skill or topic and an Academic Workshop to round out your school day.

With a stimulating combination of our Core Class and varied Academic Workshops, the General English program takes your English to new levels. Our Academic Workshops include pronunciation clinics, conversation clubs, homework assistance and more to advance your English skills faster and give you more skill practice.

The Vacation English Program offers basic instruction in the fundamental skills of English while still allowing plenty of time for students to explore the many fascinating cultural and entertainment attractions near our centers. Note: students may not use a student visa while enrolled in this program.

The Immersion Method

Housing Options

At FLS, you will meet students from all over the world, and you will develop your new language skills together. Students begin improving their English on the first day of the program. Instruction is supplemented by role-playing, pair-work, group discussion and pronunciation exercises. Because our curriculum emphasizes oral English, you will quickly find your confidence and comprehension increasing!

Small Class Sizes Our class sizes are small to increase individual attention and student-teacher interaction. Your FLS instructors will be accessible throughout the program. Average number of students in a class is 12 (Maximum: 15).

Homestay with an American Host Family

FLS offers the valuable opportunity to combine your English program with the experience of living with an American host family. We provide carefully selected homestays where you can practice conversational English and experience the American way of life.

At select FLS locations you may live on campus in a dormitory or student apartment. Campus residence accommodation offers flexibility and independence and is a great way to make friends and live like an American college student!

In cooperation with our partners at the Universal Placement Program, FLS offers you academic English preparation combined with hassle-free application and admissions assistance to excellent private high schools around the United States. Working with UPP, FLS offers the simplest and most effective way to find the right American university or college for you. After 8 weeks in the FLS program, you’ll receive free placement services to UPP’s wide range of institutions, many with TOEFL waivers.

Preparing Students for Success FLS offers a host of programs and services to help students planning to attend, or currently attending high school or university study in the USA.

High School English Preparation (Pre-AYP) Camp The FLS High School English Preparation Camp is perfect for students enrolling in an American high school. By attending a summer preparation camp at FLS you will hone your English language skills, and adjust to American life with the comfort and support of friendly, experienced FLS staff members. Our program includes 30 lessons per week of professional ESL Instruction, and accommodation at an American college dormitory.

Varied Elective Classes

FLS Holiday Boarding Program

FLS offers a wide range of elective classes which focus on specific English skills or topics. Each elective class includes 6 lessons per week and use of the textbook. Every eight weeks, you’ll be able to take a new elective and explore new areas of knowledge.

If you’re already attending boarding school or university in America, our school break programs will help you meet new friends, maintain your academic skills with daily ESL or SAT preparation classes, and enjoy exciting excursions in some of America’s top tourist cities. Program start dates are flexible to accommodate the wide range of school vacation dates.

FLS continues to introduce innovative new electives, such as English Through Film and College Preparation: Intro to Sociology, to challenge and engage students.

English Everywhere A unique part of the FLS core program, English Everywhere centers around the Hot Sheet, a quick reference for all the key vocabulary, idioms, and structure covered in the classroom that week. Each Hot Sheet focuses on a different theme, with conversation starters, songs and movies that explore the theme in greater detail. The Hot Sheets are more than just a reference for students. They’re utilized by the entire FLS staff to engage students in conversations that include the key language points of the week. From our instructors to our homestay families to our tour chaperones, everyone involved is helping the students learn.

Located near the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, Citrus College offers a great combination of suburban comfort and safety along with access to all of the attractions and glamor of Los Angeles. The college is located within easy traveling distance of the famous California beaches, mountains and deserts. Popular local destinations include Disneyland, Universal Studios, Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Citrus College was founded in 1915 and is one of the oldest colleges in California. FLS International Study Tours provide fully customized tours for groups at exciting locations across the U.S.A. Our Study Tours offer an excellent opportunity to experience American culture while learning English. Typical programs include 18 lessons of ESL per week, exciting excursions, most meals, and homestay or college dormitory accommodations. Study Tours are not limited to our campuses nor are they restricted to just students. FLS can arrange study tours at virtually any location and

offer completely customized itineraries! Past tours have operated at locations such as UCLA, California Polytechnic University, Tufts University, CSU Northridge, Northern Michigan University and many others. For the busy professional with limited time to devote to English training, The Executive Business English Program at FLS Boston Commons offers language skills essential for success in the global economy with a contemporary curricu-

lum. Located in the heart of the financial district, with museums, shopping, restaurants and historic sites nearby, our center gives executives numerous opportunities to explore the city as they improve their understanding of business English. Lessons are provided in small groups of approximately 3-5 students. In addition to their lessons, students tour significant local corporations. Program available in increments of 1-4 weeks.
