Young member Molly Bradley from Armagh was crowned Simmental Stockperson of the Year.
Young Stockperson of the Year Molly Bradley
This year the club chose the NSPCC as the charity to benefit from the proceeds of the annual charity BBQ and auction held in Dungannon Rugby Club. The NSPCC’s volunteer-led ‘Speak out Stay Safe’ programme is aimed at children aged 5 to 11 years old. “Fully trained staff visit schools and conduct childfriendly interactive workshops aimed at providing children with the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse and neglect. The programme has farreaching effects and encourages children to speak out to safeguard themselves.” A very enjoyable night was had by all in attendance and a cheque for £6,200 was handed over to the Charity.
At the Society’s National Stockjudging Finals, hosted by the Barlow family’s noted Denizes Herd in Lancashire, Northern Ireland Simmental Young Members’ Association again tasted success with the junior team of Jonny McCammond from Randalstown and Pearse Burns from Rathfriland placed second in the team category, and Pearse Burns securing third prize in the individual competition. In the senior section, Alice Stubbs, Irvinestown, and Chris Boyd, Portglenone, were also placed second in the team competition; while husband and wife Zara and Andrew Clarke from Armagh won third prize. Andrew Clarke won second prize in the senior individual category and also secured the award for the best reasons. He was Reserve Overall winner at this year’s competition, and is one of four UK members travelling to Denmark next year. Chris Boyd won third prize in the senior individual stockjudging class.
