Garden Club meeting

NAPLES — Doug Bogdan will serve as the new president of the Songo Garden Club. Members elected him Aug. 11 at their annual meeting at Greenwood Manor in Harrison, and also installed Karen Bogdan as vice president, Carol Kitchenka as secretary and Carmen Caron as treasurer. Members enjoyed a fine lunch at the manor, catered by Lake Region Caterers of Naples, and also enjoyed walking in the gardens afterward. The club’s next meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, at Nancy Vose’s home at

34 Brook Hollow Road in Naples. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m., to allow time to walk around the lovely gardens and talk with Nancy’s gardener on the selection of flowers he’s planted there. Community Beautification awards will be handed out to commercial and residential property owners who have gardens that are visible by the roadside. Members can also hopefully watch a great sunset overlooking Long Lake. Programs have been printed and will be given out that night, and dues will be collected. A light supper will also be available.

The Narramissic blacksmith is expected to be on hand to demonstrate his craft, and visitors will be able to watch an oldfashioned cider press in action. House tours will be available from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The house, which was built in 1797, is presented for the most part as it was in the 1850s, on the eve of the Civil War, when George Fitch and his
