A memorial for Marvin Merrill
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18 at noon for Marvin Merrill, who was brought up here in Casco and still had many friends and relatives here. The service will be held in Murch Cemetery in South Casco, on Route 302. His wife Nat is inviting friends and family to come to American Legion Post #155 on Route 11 Naples for a gettogether after the service. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Comedian Bucky Lewis will be performing at the Legion on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. To get tickets, which cost $15, or for more information, come to the lounge at the Legion or call 693-6285. The public is welcome. As always, there are open dart nights and open pool nights and bingo is held on
Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome; call for more information on these events or concerning hall rental. I know this is a little early but put it on your calendar: a Car Show will be held at the Legion on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. There again, call for more information. Don’t forget the Sewing Circle Yard Sale this Saturday, Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There have been several donations from the community, which are greatly appreciated. As I mentioned, the proceeds go for upkeep on the Communisty Hall. They say that “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” so come on up and look around. And remember, one of our group is making homemade donuts as well. Yummy!

New church music director
CENTER LOVELL — The Lovell United Church of Christ is delighted to announce the appointment of Jed Wilson as their new music director. Jed’s tenure at the church will begin in August. Jed grew up in Gladstone, Oregon, and began studying piano at a young age. As a teenager, he was an active performer on the Portland, Oregon jazz scene, and won prestigious awards (including Downbeat Magazine’s “Best High School Jazz Soloist” honor three years in a row). Jed received a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from
New England Conservatory in 2004. While still a student at NEC, he formed a longstanding musical partnership with renowned jazz vocalist (and NEC faculty member) Dominique Eade. The duo have toured widely, and in 2006 released a critically acclaimed CD that appeared on many of the year’s Top 10 album lists. In his review, Bill Beuttler of the Boston Globe wrote, “Wilson’s piano work, skilled and subtle, made plain why a guy so young has become Eade’s duo partner of choice.” More recently, Jed performed extensively with sing-
er/songwriter Heather Masse (of “The Wailin’ Jennys”); the association with Masse has resulted in two albums and a host of appearances across North America. He has also recorded or performed with Aoife O’Donovan (of “Crooked Still”), Sloan Wainwright, Darol Anger, Joe Walsh, Herb Geller, Nancy King, Jeremy Udden and “The Wild Band of Snee” (featuring Grammynominated cellist Rushad Eggleston). He currently resides in Lovell with his wife, Deanna, daughter, Mona, age 3, and son, Ezra, 11 months.

Classes of ’63, ’64 plan reunion The Bridgton High School Classes of 1963 and 1964 had an organizational reunion to plan the 50th reunions coming up. The two classes have many fond memories of their high school days and many still are in contact. There were even a few marriages of classmates from these two years. The reunion was held Aug. 11 at the Gertrude Knight family compound on Long Lake. The home is where Judy Knight MacDonald (1963) and Nancy Knight Hanson (1964) grew up. Social studies instructor Richard Coombs and his wife, Donna, stopped in for a visit as well. The Class of 1963 will be celebrating their 50th next year, and used this mini-reunion to start plans for the big event in 2013. If you are a member of the BHS Class of 1963 and you are not on Brian Winslow’s e-mail list, please e-mail him at bwinslow@aol.com or contact Larry Newth at LNewth112@gmail. com or 831-3285 so that everyone can be notified of the tentative plans and give their input.
TWO CLASSES STICK TOGETHER — Attending the Aug. 11 “mini-reunion” to organize their 50th Class reunions were, from left, back row: Brian Winslow, Drew Sanborn, Larry Newth, Newman Blanchard, Paul Thompson and Linda Grover Thompson; and from left, in front: Ernie Fields, Millicent (Duffy) Forrest Carrabia, Judy Poulin Newcomb, Linnea (Esther) Haavisto Lindsey and Ejay Martikainen Bosworth.
