MEDFORD, MASS. — Frank Stowell Alm, 92, beloved husband of the late Mary Eleanor (Carroll) Alm, passed away at the Epoch Assisted Living Center in Norton, Mass. on Thursday, June 12, 2014. Born in Medford, Mass. on Feb. 27, 1922, he was the son of Arvid and Lorna Stowell Alm. Stowell graduated from Medford High School, Class of 1940 and enlisted in the Army Air Corp on June 15, 1942 and entered the Army Air Corp at Fort Devens in Ayer, Mass. During his enlistment, Stowell was assigned to the 505th Bombardment Group, which was stationed on Tinian, in the Marianna Islands where the atomic bombs took off from to end World War II. While in the Army Air Corp., he obtained the rank of Master Sergeant as a communications chief. In 1947, Stowell married Eleanor Carroll and lived in Medford, Mass. until they moved to Concord, Mass. in 1960. Stowell and Eleanor resided in Concord until retiring to Naples in 1983. Stowell began as an insurance broker in 1954 with Travelers Insurance. Over the years, he purchased insurance agencies and merged his father’s agency with his own when Arvid died in 1961. Stowell sold his insurance agency in 1983 (Alm Insurance Agency Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and looked to enjoy his retirement in Maine. Stowell and Eleanor enjoyed lakeside homes in Bridgton and Naples from 1969 until 1987. They enjoyed making friends, playing golf, boating, swimming, enjoying nature and fixing up their homes. The family enjoyed both homes and had strong and lasting memories. Eleanor Alm died of cancer in 1987, which was a great loss to Stowell. Eleanor and Stowell had just completed 40 years of marriage when Eleanor passed away the end of October 1987. Stowell volunteered his time and was involved in several service organizations. He was a member of the Medford Lions Club in the 1950s and 1960s and was president of the Medford Lions Club from 1964-1965 and worked to raise money for eye research. Stowell was an active member of Masons and Shriners in Medford and Concord, Mass. then stayed active while living in Maine. While residing in Concord, he served on the Finance Committee for three years. Stowell took great pleasure and pride in being a member of the Concord Minutemen from 1963 until 1983. During his time in the Minutemen, he played the fife and drum in parades, then served as lieutenant for three years, and became captain of the Minutemen from 1975-1977. He served on the Bicentennial Committee and enjoyed the planning which took several years to coordinate the events including The Patriots’s Day Ball, which was held at the Concord Armory Concord, Mass. on April 19, 1976. Over the years, Stowell and Eleanor made many friends with the Minutemen and their families, which created lifelong memories. In 1989, Stowell met Mary B. Armond in Naples. They became friends and companions from 1989 until Mary died in 2006. Mary has daughters; Anne and Kathryn, who have residences in the Lake Region and were regular visitors to Brandy Pond. During their years together, they split their time between Naples and Southington, Conn. (Mary’s home) and some travel to Destin, Fla. in the winter. They enjoyed travel, golf, friends, family and relaxation in retirement. He was predeceased by his sister, Ashley Fenton, who passed away from cancer in 2003. He is the loving father of Richard of East Boston, Mass.; Nancy Alm of Mountain City, Texas; Robert of Norton, Mass.; six grandchildren; Marshall Fenton; Caroline and Colleen Alm; Shirsten; and Meredith Alm. His funeral service was celebrated at Beal’s-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Mass. on Saturday, June 28. Interment with military honors was at Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The Neely House, 30 Winter Street, 2nd Floor Boston, Mass. 02108 or www.camneelyfoundation.org/Donate. Evelyn Tegeler Glatz Evelyn Tegeler Glatz, 89, whose life was always lively and whose heart was full of love, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Bridgton Hospital. Evelyn (Chee Chee) was born in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. She moved to Maine in 1950 with her husband, Larry, and their young family, and began a busy period of family life. They moved to Bridgton in 1961, where they built and operated Morgensleben Ski Lodge on Pleasant Mountain. Later, Evelyn operated The Flower Pot with Peg Diller, worked at Bridgton Pharmacy, and worked for nearly twenty years at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital. While working and raising six children here, she was an energetic volunteer. She boarded Swiss instructors for Pleasant Mountain Ski School. She was a charter member of the Hospital Guild, and served the Bridgton High School and Lake Region Music Boosters, SAD 61 School Board, Lake Region Community Theater, and Deertrees Theatre Renovation Committee. In 1992, she moved to South Portland, working at Maine Medical Center and volunteering at Mercy Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, South Portland Food Cupboard, Meals on Wheels, and South Portland Historical Society. Many experiences greatly enriched her life. During WWII she was a “Rosie the Riveter” in an airplane factory in Trenton, New Jersey. In 1980, she was housemother for the Swiss Olympic Team at Lake Placid, and later served at a mission in the Appalachia region of Kentucky. In 1991, she and her sister, Irene Tegeler, drove across the U.S. to visit many landmarks. Evelyn truly loved people, made friends easily, and kept rich connections with her large family. Any gathering became a party when she arrived. She simply beamed when surrounded by family and friends. She listed her interests as knitting, embroidery, crocheting, reading, cross-country skiing, biking, boating, walking, and dancing. Surrounding them all was always music, singing through her housework and while driving near and far, topped off with years of singing with the Sweet Adelines and a chorus, Mainely Gospel. We will always hear her voice somewhere in the music and will miss her wit and wisdom every day. Evelyn is predeceased by her parents, four siblings, and her husband, Larry. She is survived by her children: Bonnie Marsh, of Denmark; Larry and Mary Croteau Glatz, of Scarborough; Garry and Janet Glatz, of Durham; Marsha and Sam Walsh of Otisfield; Jane and David O’Regan of Spencer, Mass.; and Joel and Marcy Glatz, of Brunswick. Nana/Omi Glatz will be fondly remembered by seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and dozens of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Androscoggin Home Health Care, Beacon Hospice, the staff of Bridgton Hospital, and Dr. Shayna Lemke for the compassionate care given our beloved matriarch. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Church in Bridgton on Saturday, July 12 at 10 a.m. Following a brief burial service, a reception will also be held at St. Joseph Church. In lieu of flowers, Evelyn hoped that donations would be made to South Portland Food Cupboard, PO Box 2892, South Portland, ME 04116.

Overall, nearly 2,000 pieces of legislation were brought before lawmakers for consideration from January 2013 to May 2014. Over the course of the last two years Rep.
