Travel, youth soccer An additional registration day for the Lake Region Travel Soccer program has been scheduled for this Saturday, June 22 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the front door area at Lake Region High School. The program is open for boys and girls ages 7 to 13 (on Aug. 1). Soccer Camp Register for the Lake Region High School Soccer Camp, for girls entering grades 3-7. The camp is from July 8-12 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the high school. Cost is $50. Contact LR varsity girls’ soccer coach Harvey Toews at harvey.toews@lakeregionschools.org
Track & Field camp Lake Region High School track and field coaches Mark Snow and Dana Caron will hold a summer camp designed for boys and girls entering Grades 1-7. The coaches will be assisted by middle and high school athletes. Campers will learn about the sport of track and field. Skills and concepts to be covered include sprinting, endurance, throwing, jumping, relays and overall fitness. The camp will be June 19-21 and June 24-28 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the high school track complex. A special reduced cost is being offered this year — $25 per camper or $60 maximum per family, no matter how many days the participant attends. Payment is expected by the second day of camp or sent prior to June 19 to: Mark Snow, 47 Higgins Hill, Casco, ME 04015 (627-6087 or mark.snow@lakeregionschools.org). A camp t-shirt and water bottle is included in the fee. Each camper should wear proper athletic attire: sneakers, socks, shorts, t-shirt.
Harrison youth soccer
HARRISON — Registration forms for the Oxford Hills Athletic Boosters fall youth soccer for Harrison children entering grades 1-6 can be found at the Harrison Town Office, at Crystal Lake Park concession building during the summer day camp, or on the town’s website at www.harrisonmaine.org (click on recreation and follow to youth athletics and download form). The fee is $35 per child and $50 per family. The fall youth soccer program starts when school begins so please make every attempt to register your child during this early registration so your son or daughter will be placed on a team. Team numbers must be submitted in August. If payment is an issue please speak with Rec Director Paula Holt when you register. Deadline is Friday, Aug. 2. The Munchkin program — for Harrison girls and boys entering kindergarten — will begin shortly after the Booster program. Forms for Munchkins can also be found at the same places mentioned above. Table tennis champs crowned The Maine Games Table Tennis Tournament was held last Saturday, June 15, at the Bridgton Town Hall. The event was well attended by 26 of the best players from Maine and New Hampshire, participating in six classes of competition. All matches were best 3 of 5 round robin games with single elimination to determine the winners. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to finishers of each class. The 18 to 50 class was won by Svet Kirtchev of Westbrook; second place to Jerry Bacon of North Yarmouth; and third place to Moroslav Dossev of Skowhegan. The Over 50 class was won by Jifa Hao of Scarborough; second place to Sean Farley of Portland; and third place to Irena Stephan of Gray Class “A” was won by Peter Wong of Lewiston;
second place to Jifa Hao of Scarborough; and third place to Sean Farley of Portland. Class “B” was won by Hank Roy of Hookset, N.H.; second place to Herman Low of North Conway, N.H.; and third place to Brian Jortner of Freeport. Bridgton Highlands The Ladies Day tournament for the day on Wednesday, June 12 was “Partners – Best Ball of Two.” The twosome of Elaine Tinker and Yvonne Gluck won the low gross. The winning low net winners were Carol Riley and Kathy Blanchard. The pot was fewest putts for the round, won by Carolyn Stanhope, with 16. In Highlands Sweeps Two Ball on Sunday, June 16, the first gross went to Wayne Kuvaja and Ben Chaine at 74, while the first net went to Bill Holden and Ken Gibbs with a 59. Nearest the pin on Hole 8 was Cliff Walker at 10-feet 8-inches. Nearest the pin on Hole 10 was Mike Stuart at 21-feet 5-inches. Lake Kezar CC, Lovell In Tuesday Social League play, the team of Dick Day, George Bassett, Pat Johnston and Art Faulk captured first place with a score of 93. Closest to the pin were Bob Bean at 23-feet 4-inches on Hole 5, and Ed Jelik at 25-feet 6-inches on Hole 16. Greenie: Corey Douglas, Bob Spanglo, Harry Roberts and Mike Tarentino.
