PORTLAND — Roger A. Guillette, 82, of Portland died Friday, May 30, 2014, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born in Barre, Vt., on Feb. 25, 1932, the son of Albert and Ola Deslippe Guillette. Roger graduated from Spaulding High School in 1950, and served five years in the U.S. Air Force before marrying Angela Gadgcome on April 25, 1959, in Plattsburg, N.Y., In 1962, Roger graduated from the University of Vermont. Roger worked many years in retail for Robert Hall in N.Y., and Anderson Little and J.C. Penney’s in South Portland. He also volunteered for the Salvation Army in Portland. Roger was a genuine, inquisitive man and always sought the best in whom he came in contact with. A lifelong learner, he had varied interests, among them politics, traveling, and Bible studies; but above all his family. Roger is survived by his wife, Angela of 55 years; his four daughters, Kathleen G. Guillette of Portland, Linda G. McLean of Raymond, Michelle G. Grant of Bridgton and Cynthia G. Gaudin of Raymond; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services, as requested by Roger, will be private and for the immediate family. AUBURN — Bette Louise Roth, 84, of Raymond and Vero Beach, Fla., died on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at the Androscoggin Hospice House with her family by her side. Born in Des Plaines, Ill., on April 28, 1930, the daughter of the late LeRoy and Louise Sass Nelson, she graduated from Maine Township High School in the class of 1948. There she was a member of the “Mounted Maine-ites” equestrian team. Her love of horses continued after high school and she vacationed at dude ranches across the Midwest. Upon graduation, she and friends drove across the country in a rented convertible and visited Cuba in the pre-embargo days. Bette worked in Chicago for the Hartford Insurance Company from 1948 to 1953, where she met her husband, Jerry. After marrying, she supported the family as a homemaker, remaining active in all the communities she resided in. Bette was a long-time volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Conn., and also volunteered as a Welcome Wagon host, Meals on Wheels driver, PTO/PTA president, and Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed traveling with her family, and was a strong voice of support for the Hartford Whalers with her loud cowbell. Bette and Jerry were members and supporters of the Hartford Stage Company. Mrs. Roth was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Windham, and Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach, Fla. She enjoyed spending time at the ocean in Vero Beach and on Sebago Lake in Raymond. Jerry and Bette traveled extensively and cherished their regular trips to Wisconsin to reunite with old friends. Bette also enjoyed sharing stories of her childhood with her granddaughters and watching them grow up. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jerome J. Roth of Raymond and Vero Beach, Fla., whom she married on Oct. 23, 1953; her son, Thomas J. Roth of Auburn; and two granddaughters. She was predeceased by her parents, LeRoy Nelson and Louise (Sass) Nelson; and a brother, Robert Nelson, all of Des Plaines, Ill. Kenward C. Ribas POLAND — Kenward Clint Ribas, 37, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014. He was born on Nov. 12, 1976, at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital. Clint grew up in Naples and Casco, and graduated from Lake Region High School in 1995. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1995 to 1999, after which he resided in Gray and later Poland, and was employed by Frank’s Garage as master mechanic. He is survived by his mother, Carmen E. Lone; father, Kenward W. Ribas; stepfather of 30 years, Dennis J. Lone; sister, Amanda J. Ribas; great aunt, Donna M. Curtis; aunts, Diane E. Menario, Joyce E. Fountaine, Gayle Iovine and Donna Watson; and uncles, Paul R. Edes and Edmund Ribas; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 5th, at the Forest Hills Cemetery in Bridgton, followed by a celebration of Clint’s life at the Bridgton Community Center. Paul L. Charette SEBAGO — Paul Leo Charette, 71, of Sebago, passed away on Wednesday, May 28 2014. Paul was born to Leo and Mabel Charette on Jan. 11, 1943, in Westbrook. Paul was a caring soul with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, and spending time on his boat. Paul had a tender heart for children and along with his wife, Pamela, was involved in Therapeutic Foster Care for over 20 years, opening their home to more than 50 kids. Paul was predeceased by his parents; his brother Conrad Charette; and son Michael Charette. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Charette; sons Robert Charette and Isaiah Perez of Sebago, Paul Charette Jr. of Portland, and Walter Ackerman of Massachusetts; daughter Christine Charette of Parsonsfield; stepdaughters Lisa Townsend of Buxton and Kimberly Roubo of California; and brothers, Russell Charette of Indiana and Gerard Charette of Florida. Paul liked to joke that his body was just his “earth suit.” Paul has left his “earth suit” behind and gone on to a better place. He will be missed. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at the Sebago Church of the Nazarene (Route 114), on Saturday, June 7, at 2 p.m., with refreshments to follow. Interment will be held the following week at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.

Elena B. Hall Elena Barbara Schiavi Hall died on May 30, 2014, at the Bridgton Health Care Center. She was born May 11, 1912, in Gropparello, Italy, to John and Jenny Tiramani Schiavi. Lena immigrated to the United States with her mother and brother in 1921 at the age of nine. She arrived at Ellis Island, and from there traveled by train to Bridgton, where the family was reacquainted with her father to help run the family business. She graduated from Bridgton High School in 1933, and later from Wilfred Academy in Boston. She was a hair stylist and also worked for her father until she married Edward C. Hall Jr. in 1944. Lena had a passion for, and could always be found in her vegetable and flower gardens, or at the kitchen table sewing and quilting. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church and belonged to St. Joseph’s Women’s Guild. She was also a charter member of the Chickadee Quilters Club, to which she devoted much of her time. She was predeceased by her husband and leaves three daughters and their husbands, Linda and George Soutiere of Naples, Carolyn and Alan Taylor of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Rita and Bob Fayle of Medway. In addition, she leaves grandchildren, Lauren, Tory, Gwen, Harrison, Drew and Kate, and great-grandsons Joel and Alan. Lena also leaves a dear sister Dorothy Koutsivitis, and special nephews Peter and Charlie. She was predeceased by a sister Mary Bruno and a brother Joe Schiavi. Renee L. Dutton CENTER LOVELL — Renee Louise Guillet Dutton, 90, of Center Lovell, passed away June 2, 2014, at her home after a brief illness. Mrs. Dutton was born April 21, 1924, in Boston, Mass. Mrs. Dutton graduated from high school in Foxboro, Mass., where she was involved in many activities and was their Drum Majorette. Her husband became an officer in the Army Air Corps at the beginning of WWII, which began a long saga of moving her family from base to base for many years including through the Korean and Vietnam wars. Her numerous transfers had her living in at least 10 states, and of those some were multiple stays. She moved to Maine from New Hampshire in the early 1970s, having family connections there since the early 1940s. Renee started Kezar Lake Handcrafters and later successfully ran Dutton Real Estate until 1997, and continued her involvement until she retired at the age of 83. She devoted time to Lovell causes and projects and held offices at the Library and Lovell Historical Society, in addition to being a Church Elder. She was predeceased by her parents George and Louise Guillet; and her husband of 53 years, Oliver F. Dutton; a son Daniel Dutton; and a sister Marguarite Schwartz. She is survived by five children, Oliver J. of North Lovell; Diana R. of Boston, Mass.; Randie L. of Troy, N.H.; Mark W. of Lovell; and Todd D. of Topsham. She is also survived two sisters, Roberta Atkinson of Damariscotta, and Nancy Lowe of Topsail, N.C.; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held, Friday, June 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren Street, Fryeburg, Maine. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 7, at the Lovell United Church of Christ. Burial will be in #4 Cemetery, Lovell. Charles W. Price Jr. BEAUFORT, S.C. — Charles Warren Price Jr. of Beaufort, S.C., and Bridgton, died May 29, 2014 in Columbia, S.C. He was born in Miami, Fla., on Oct. 15, 1940, to Charles Warren Price Sr. and Margaret Robbins. Warren grew up as an avid outdoorsman in the South Florida Everglades and Keys. He attended Miami Edison High School, where he played football. He was given a football scholarship to Virginia Polytechnic Institute to play quarterback, where he broke records and earned numerous awards. He was a member of the German Club and Delta Kappa Epsilon, graduating in 1963 with a BA in Business. He married Barbara Philips Price on March 11, 1963, in Ashville, N.C. Warren joined the United States Navy, where he flew the E-1 and E-2. He was a Landing Signal Officer for his squadron aboard the carriers Essex and Lexington. He also played quarterback for the Navy Goshawks. After leaving the Navy he was a pilot for Delta Airlines for 31 years. He flew the DC-9, the 727 and retired as a captain on the L1011 in 1999. Following retirement, Warren and Babs moved to Beaufort, S.C., where they purchased and operated Plums restaurant downtown. Warren loved to be active and outdoors. He coached his sons in Pop Warner football, skied in the Maine winters, played tennis, handball and racquetball. He loved to fish and spearfish. A true jack of all trades, he could build or repair anything and was especially proud of his woodworking, building beautiful pieces of furniture and taking great joy in giving them to family and friends. Warren’s biggest passion was wild turkey hunting. He was a lifetime member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, always counting the days until turkey season began. He loved to plan and take trips with his “hunting buddies.” He considered attaining The Grand Slam, Royal Slam and World Slam of turkey hunting some of his greatest accomplishments in life. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara “Babs” Price; daughter, Robin Ragland Price; sons, Lantz Philips Price, and Brett Warren Price and his wife, Stacey Brackett Price; grandchildren, Taelor Philips Rubin, Sydney Haden Rubin, Tanner Warren Price, Haley Ragland Price, Hayden Charlotte Price and Grayson Rhodes Price; as well as three stepsisters. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Evan Warren Price. A Celebration of Warren’s life will be held for family and friends at 5 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014, at his home on Sunset Bluff in Beaufort. SOUTH PARIS — Edward Carroll “Ed” Hall Jr., died April 15, 2013, at the Veterans’ Home in South Paris. He was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Topsham, one of seven children of Louella M. and Edward C. Hall. In 1935, Ed came to Bridgton to join the Civilian Conservation Corps — Camp 11005. He later enlisted in the Army Air Force and served overseas in Guam from 1944 to 1945. Edward then returned home to Bridgton and to his wife, the former Elena Schiavi, in 1944. He partnered with local attorney Leslie Dudley, establishing the firm of Hall and Dudley Real Estate and Insurance. During his business career he served on many local boards and was also appointed a Dedimus Justice by then Governor Edmund S. Muskie in 1958. Ed often said that his hobbies were his real business. One of these was his obsession with building antique automobiles. A charter member of Pleasant Mountain Chapter of the Maine Obsolete Auto League (MOALs), he could often be seen cruising the local roads in some contraption or other. His other pursuit was his lifelong music career. As a boy he taught himself to play the guitar and banjo. While in the service he toured with an Army Air Force Band to raise money for the Red Cross War Fund. He continued his music career after the war, joining Jack Kelly’s New England Inn Orchestra. Bridgtonians may also remember the infamous Lease Breakers Band, which was composed of many local businessmen/musicians. His last performance was at the age of 87, when in 2003, on the lawn of the Bridgton Public Library, he played in celebration of the library’s 90th birthday. He was nicknamed “Bridgton’s Banjoist” by pianist Phil Saltman. He leaves behind his daughters, Linda Soutiere and husband George, Carolyn Taylor and husband Alan, and Rita Hall-Fayle and husband Bob. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. SOUTH PARIS — Dorothy Mary Teresa “Dot” Connell, 89, passed away peacefully in her home following a long illness, surrounded by the love of family on Friday, May 30, 2014. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to James C. and Annie M. (Strohmeyer) Johnson. She attended school in New Orleans and in 1971 enrolled in the University of Southern Maine and completed three and a half years of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She had various jobs but most enjoyed her work with the Head Start program at Community Concepts, and later worked with older residents in the community. She was named citizen of the year for the Town of Norway in 1995–1996. Dot enjoyed watching birds, loved music and family gatherings, good food, going for rides and visiting with family and friends. Her 75th birthday party was a great surprise to her and was attended by several family members from Louisiana, which delighted her. Two years ago she took a road trip with her son Walter to New Orleans to visit with family and attended the Mardi Gras celebration once again. She is survived by her nine children, JoAnn Ferraro of Massachusetts, Chester Connell of South Paris, Donna Berry of Massachusetts, Walter Connell of Harrison, Dorothy “Lee” Berry of Sumner, Daniel Connell of West Paris, Bruce Connell of Louisiana, Kenneth Connell of West Paris, and Ruthy Hebert of West Paris. Loving Grandmother to many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Also survived by five sisters all of Louisiana, Madeline Morlas, Lucille Poole, Louise Harmeyer, Audrey Casey and Gwendolyn Gagliano; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; grandson Charlie Connell; and granddaughter Patricia Berry; sisters Anna Mendoza and Gloria Johnson; brothers James, Frederick, Willie, Lawrence, and Bernard. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main Street, South Paris, followed by a service at 1 p.m. Burial will be at the Tuelltown Cemetery in West Paris.
