s a little girl, did you ever dream about walking down the aisle wearing a breathtakingly beautiful wedding dress? Now that you’re all grown up, and are in fact, planning your wedding, how will you go about finding that elusive dress of your childhood dreams?

“When a bride gets engaged, one of the first things she considers is the date of the wedding,” says Jaclyn Walmsley, manager of David’s Bridal in Natick, MA. “Then she immediately starts thinking about her dress. Brides get excited to try on gowns.” Whether you’ve set your sights on a high-end designer creation, a discounted sample—a design that is timeless or trendy—before rushing to buy, you should determine a realistic price range. “Every bride has a different budget and it’s difficult to determine an ‘average’ price.” Walmsley advises brides-to-be to, “consider not only the cost of

the dress, but also alterations, foundation garments, and accessories that will complete her head-to-toe wedding day look.” In addition to clipping magazine photos, she suggests doing a comprehensive online search. This will help you narrow down silhouettes and fabrics which will define your personal style. Where and when your wedding will take place (season and venue formal or informal, daytime or evening, etc.) should also factor into your dress selection. Your choices can be “favorited,” saved and compiled into a file or folder that you can later share with your stylist. continued on page 40
