The Bridal Extravaganza Show lets you meet and ask questions of wedding professionals ranging from DJs to Photographers, and everything in between.

You’ll see fashion shows, -8-

gowns galore, and meet more wedding vendors than you could possibly get to any other way.

You are coming to the show to 1. Gather information 2. compare prices and services 3. register for prizes 4. see the latest fashions 5. get great new ideas and 6. all this while having a ball with your favorite planning pals.

1. Set your wedding date.

2.

FIND AVAILABLE DATES: Some venues book out more than a year in advance, so you’ll want to find the perfect venue and secure it immediately. If you have not set your wedding date, look for wedding facilities and their available dates.

3.

Attend with an open mind.You will be surprised what items grab your attention.

4.

Bring your checkbook.

Vendors often have show discounts if you book at their booth.

There is a way to plan the wedding of your dreams in one weekend.

IF THESE HALLS COULD TALK: A 30-year, Houston tradition, the Bridal Extravaganza Show draws generation after generation to its booths. Passed from mother to daughter, sister to bridesmaid.

ASK QUESTIONS! This is your time to learn. It is a great time to get an ear full on products and services.

Visit every booth with an open mind.You might not be interested in a photo booth today, but you could change your mind tomorrow.

You will have all the information you need.

Watch all the fashion shows. Notice how the gowns look, move, fit on the models and envision how they will look on you. Narrow down your options.

8.

Plan to spend the entire day at the George R. Brown.

9.

Walk up the aisle on one side, then down the other side of the same aisle. This way you will see every vendor in the show.

10.

Snap photos of your favorite booths.

11.

Bridal show 101: Put an A if you really like the vendor, B if you might be interested, then ignore or discard information from the rest.

12.

Bring your calendar so you will have your bridal shower, rehearsal, wedding, and other important dates handy.

13. Create a special e-mail account dedicated to wedding planning.

You can give this to vendors you meet at the show. Many will e-mail special offers to you.

14.

15. Be sure to say hello to any vendors you have already hired.

16. Don’t be overwhelmed! Have fun with the planning process.

17. Many exhibitors book up quickly on popular wedding dates, so don’t wait long after the show before you decide to call or utilize their services. Generally speaking, there is a rush of appointments immediately after a bridal show.

Attend with a plan.

If you know you need a photographer, come to the show and book your photographer.

Take time and enjoy yourself. Be sure to taste some cake!

danielle, a Chemical engineer, and Brandon, a Chemical plant operator, tied the knot on april 26, 2014.

Four years into their relationship, Brandon popped the question in new orleans, la. new orleans was the first trip they made as a couple, a place Brandon loved; it grew on danielle. it became a traditional jaunt every year. “our trips had come full circle and i couldn’t be happier to spend yet another vacation in new orleans with the man i love.”

“laissez les bons temps” (let the good times roll!) was engraved on their champagne glasses.

lisa, a registered nurse, and John, a professional land surveyor, went on their first date after meeting through e-harmony. one day when their plans to meet friends in austin were unexpectedly canceled, they headed north to a lovely park in Fort worth. after a train ride through the park with Johnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sister and nephew, lisa was surprised to see her dog headed towards her as she stepped off the train. as her dog neared closer she could see a pink ribbon and a gorgeous ring.

lisa and John held their destination wedding on the beach May 25, 2014 at the riviera Maya in Mexico. lisa wore a beautiful Mori lee Monterey gown with embroidered lace and strapless sweetheart neckline. The hotel provided a 2-tier pistachio and blueberry cake to match the colors of their wedding. They honeymooned in el dorado Maroma in playa del Carmen, Mexico.

grace, a sales account executive, met Paul, a managing director, during a concert at Fitzgerald’s. Paul asked grace for her number; three days later, they went to dinner at sambuca followed by bowling at lucky strike. a year and a half later, while vacationing in rio de Janerio, Brazil, Paul surprised grace by proposing in front of the beautiful and romantic copacabana hotel; of course she said Yes! grace wore an elegant beaded ivory gown by stephen Yearick from Brickhouse Bridal when she walked down the aisle march 22, 2014 at First methodist, downtown houston. The ceremony in the old church was followed by a reception at the unique, modern 5226 elm. The gorgeous 3-tier vanilla cake with strawberry filling was styled with a monogram of their names and matching flowers. Paul also had a special groom’s cake in the shape of an authentic knight’s helmet.

Grace’s advise

grace’s advise to other brides is, “make sure to take it all in. i made a point to walk down the aisle with my father slowly and really take the moment in because the night flies by!”

at the end of the reception, they rode away in a vintage 1930’s convertible rolls royce.

The honeymoon was six days in Bora Bora at the st. regis hotel, followed by six days at the Four seasons maui. Before visiting the Pacific tropics, a scuba diving course was great “premarital counseling” because of the teamwork involved.

The ceremony was at The Veranda by 17 at the sam Houston Hotel in Houston. “it was like having the best of both worlds… an air conditioned, outdoors wedding in downtown Houston in June,” nadia recalls. it has excellent accommodations for out of town guests and a great party atmosphere for the reception.

The bride was stunning in her strapless gown by Martina liana, with an elegant crystal detailed belt. during the reception guests enjoyed a delicious four tiered cake made by edible designs by Jessie. each table had a framed engagement picture of the couple for guests to take home. “our guests instinctively knew we wanted them to take the framed picture with them, and they did! it’s also kind of cool to walk into a friend’s house and see your picture displayed!”

At the Bridal Extravaganza Show, thousands of brides, bridesmaids, mothers-ofthe-bride, grooms, and wedding planners have their pick of over 350 vendors in 700 display showcases who cater exclusively to the ever fashionable, stylish, and romantic wedding industry.

The New York style runway was packed on Saturday and Sunday as attendees viewed fashion shows from Damsel White Label, Impression Bridal, David’s Bridal, Men’s Wearhouse, and The Princess Bridal.

As a special addition, brides enjoyed a South Asian Fashion Show.

by Randy Fenoli, star of “Say Yes to the Dress.”

Canoeing, archery, yard games, board games are always available and included in the package. This is a ranch, saddle up and join the guided trail rides mornings and afternoons. Golf is extra and 30 minutes away. The Broadmoor has three excellent courses; Jack Nicholas and Annika Sorenstam had their first major wins here.

The ranch can comfortably support a wedding group of 30 people; larger groups would need to work with sister properties to ensure sleeping rooms.

High in the Sky

At 9,200 feet above sea level, Cloud Camp’s guests are on the lodge’s porch enjoying Colorado sunshine. A storm is moving through Colorado Springs below and they watch from above the clouds as lightning strikes and thunder rumbles. The storm soon plays out and they look down at a double rainbow.

Cloud Camp is perched on the eastern cliff of the Rocky Mountains. If one threw a rock, it would fall 3,000 feet nearly straight down onto The Broadmoor’s West golf course. From this

vantage point you can see across Colorado into western Kansas. The adventurous can climb 195 steps up through thin air to the old fire ranger lookout for 360-degree views from the peak.

The antennas on the next peak over belong to the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, a military site and nuclear safe bunker hidden deep inside the mountain.

The log cabin lodge is more than exquisite. The

long, airy great room has giant stone fireplaces on each end. Western art covers the walls and a long communal table runs the length of the room. Overhead, ornate light fixtures hang from heavy beams and illuminate Indian paintings on the high-pitched ceilings.Large porches and wrap around deck allow plenty of room for mingling and enjoying the views.

Eleven cabins and six rooms in the lodge allow sleeping spots for 40-50 guests. The

I was so caught up planning my wedding; I didn’t have the time to enjoy being engaged. We invested lots of time and energy planning our “dream wedding,” then threw it all out the window and decided to have a destination wedding. Sunset Sail on The Cat We climb aboard The Cat for dinner and a sunset sail through the harbor and along the island. It’s an absolutely a great way to spend the evening with those who traveled so far to support us. It is more than just romantic and relaxing, it is one of the best places I could be at this very moment, definitely a highlight of our destination wedding.

Guests at the Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort can take the ferry to nearby Charlotte Amalie. The city is a shopping and dining destination and we load up on souvenirs. An amazing aroma drifts through the alley and we follow it to the source, a quaint restaurant called Gladys’. Gladys is singing while she works creating a unique atmosphere.

The jerk mahi sandwich with a side of crispy fries is so delicious I’ll want it again and again. I wonder if she’ll deliver to Houston?

Forget breakfast in bed and try breakfast on the beach at Coco Joe’s. The open-air restaurant overlooks the beautiful blue water, food is delicious and if you don’t want to leave the beach you don’t have to, servers bring your drinks and food to your cabanas. Seven other dining options are on property ranging from casual to experiential.

Havana Blues is the best restaurant on property. The cuisine is Latin America meets Pacific Rim. It has a blue hue to it, open windows and doors looking out at the ocean. Our guests enjoy the skirt steak served with mashed potatoes and breaded asparagus. The elegant, but simple environment, is highlighted by the sound of waves crashing on the shore in the moon lit night, the perfect place our reception dinner.

Downtown La Paz also boasts a 5k promenade for strolling, jogging or exercising along the seaside route at the exercise stations. The downtown district is lined with boutiques for shopping and most are locally owned and operated. If meat is on the mind, then most recommend trying the barbeque at J&R Ribs. If a Catholic Church wedding is a must, couples can request the Santa Rosa historic church in the heart of downtown, but it must be reserved at least six months in advance.

A visit to La Paz would not be complete without a boat

tour to Isla Espiritu Santo, a private beach for homemade lunch, kayaking, snorkeling, and relaxing. Isla Espíritu Santo is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and has the most intact ecosystem of any island in the Sea of Cortez. The area is home to coral reefs and over 400

species of fish. Along the way, visitors should make a stop at Los Islotes (a set of three rock formations) to snorkel and play with a den of more than 400 sea lions, or as they call them, the puppies of the sea. Juvenile sea lions will pose, swim, race and play chicken with their visitors.

Costa Baja offers on-site activities as well, including a 95 acre golf course, with 14 of the 18 holes offering an ocean view.
