EDITOR’S LETTER Funny thing about being the editor of Bridal Couture Magazine— everyone wants to know what my daughters wedding would be like. Now I have a chance to share her beautiful day. My daughter Kaitlin said her ‘I do’s’ to Camilo this past March. I would never have imagined that someday I'd be sifting through wedding dresses, bouquets, and china patterns with her—and calling it work! Glowing Skin by Your Wedding Day
ummer is a great time to get outside and rejuvenate your mind and body. But for your skin, summer means extra exposure to the sun, heat and sweat. Every bride wants to look her best on her wedding day. If you are getting married in the summer or early fall, give your skin a little protection, and TLC with some of these tips from our very own contributing esthetician, Tenille Rollins, owner of Nirvana Face and Body.
earned summer glow? Luckily, there are proven "good for you" drinks that flush out your body from these harmful substances as well as the toxins they cause — and most of them actually taste good. This season, do your body, and your face, a favor: Forego your poolside margarita and pre-game energy drink for a bottle of water and a glass of red wine. Your pores will thank you later.
Hydration
Protection
Your skin is the biggest organ in your body, and it is the last organ to get the water it needs to function properly and stay hydrated. “As an esthetician, dehydration is always apparent when looking at someone’s skin,” says Tenille. “Your skin tells the story.” A general rule of thumb is that if your feel thirstyyou are already dehydrated. Drink adequate amount of water throughout the day. If you are on the go, try carrying a bottle and a container of fresh fruit on the go to prevent dehydration and heat stroke. Not a fan of water? Infuse! Some of the most amazing flavors can be created with a simple combination of fruits, herbs, and spices.
Carbonation, Sugar & Alcohol
Certain drinks, just like certain foods, can have harmful effects on your skin. Ingredients to watch out for? Caffeine, sugar, and salt. These additives can dehydrate you and make you bloated, keeping you from looking like your fabulous self. After all, who wants to look puffy and wrinkled on top of their hard
The sun's UV rays can damage your skin all year long. Choose a good broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. “When selecting a sunscreen for your face, I recommend non-comedogenic,” explains Tenille. “Comedogenic formulas can clog your follicles and pores on your face.” Your neck, chest, and hands are an instant giveaway to your true age and are prone to get damaged by the UV rays. Be sure to apply sunscreen to your neck and chest area and hands and feet as these areas of the body are also susceptible to UV damage. Also, with summer comes open-toed shoes and sandals, so be sure to exfoliate, moisturize, and protect exposed feet. Take into account that sunscreen will rub off faster than it would from the rest of your body from rubbing against the straps of your sandals etc. Thus, it is recommended to re-apply more frequently to prevent burnt feet.

Excessive exposure to the UV rays of the sun can not only hasten your age clock but also make you susceptible to skin cancer. Even though you do your bit by slathering tons of sunscreen on your skin, you may still end up experiencing itchy and painful rashes, commonly known as sunburn. But hey, you don’t need to endure the brunt of the ruthless sun; you can face it head-on. “Super-soothing botanicals and cooling gels can help prevent peeling and reduce redness and inflammation,” says Tenille. “Just make sure you don’t use anything with an oil base. Oil can trap in the heat and make the burning feel worse. Try to find products with water or aloe based for the best results.”
Skin Care Regime
Adopt a bridal beauty regimen that will have your skin flawless and noticeably glowing for your big day. With all of the dirt, sweat, toxins, and allergens we are exposed to, a good daily cleaners is the first step. Followed by a serum. “Vitamin A serum is the queen of all skin care health,” explains Tenille. “It stimulates cell turnover, amplifies collagen and elastin growth, restores the protective barrier, increases skin nutrients and immune repair, rebuilds the dermis, normalizes oil, hydrates, and calms inflammation.” Finish your routine with a moisturizer that targets your skin type. “Follow these steps and consult monthly with your esthetician and you will walk the aisle with refreshed, baby-soft skin,” she says—which doesn’t exactly sound like a bad way to kick off the wedding festivities.

The struggle is real. Your consultant may recommend a gown that’s 2-3 sizes larger than what you normally wear. Thanks to European sizing and designers’ refusal to evolve size charts to match modern day norms, brides begin to panic in their dressing rooms. "I'm not that size!" Just try to remember it’s not you, it’s the industry. So let’s define what’s happening here. It's called “Bride Shaming.” This new form of criticism can put an irremovable damper on the planning process. And wedding related reality TV does not help. Let's ask ourselves, what terminology should we avoid when referring to ourselves or others? How can we change the conversation? I've included "15 Things to Never Say" above. Trust me, not everyone wants to hear those words, sarcastic or not. If you’re planning your big day, there’s no better time to get a handle on your insecurities and the way you treat yourself. Someone loves you very much—it’s time to start loving yourself. I am a firm believer that there's a wedding dress out there for every bride—whether you have an athletic, tall, apple-shaped or hourglass figure. And this might surprise you, but you don't have to stick to the uber-flattering fit-and-flare silhouette if

Let's break it down. First, skinny-shaming is just as toxic as fat. While I’m proud that companies like Lane Bryant and Dove are showing adoration for all figure types, sometimes skinny girls get tossed under the bus. Many models and petite actresses are told to “eat a sandwich” or that they look “anorexic.” In her song “Anaconda,” Niki Minaj has some shameful words for those skinny B’s in the club. Quite suddenly, the media has turned on the “thin” women of the world. eal

When planning, brides browse magazines, Pinterest, IG, blogs, and more. They look at the designer's website and see a model in their dream dress and think, “I need to look that good.” Or they see a segment on the morning news on how to get rid of “flabby arms” or stop “chub rub” in 15 Things to Never Say its tracks. Even worse, they go shopAbout Someone’s Figure ping for bridal gowns and see another (Including Yours): bride-to-be in a similar style. And so 1. Fat the comparisons begin…. 2. Skinny 3. Slim "She looks so much better in that 4. Buff dress. I can’t buy it now! Her body 5. Chunky is perfect. God, I look awful. Take it 6. Eat a sandwich off. TAKE IT OFF!" 7. Anorexic
“I was extremely intimidated and anxious to go gown shopping and my shopping experience was not a great one. Everything was too small, pinched my fat, and was frankly unflattering. I ended up finding a dress I loved online, and you guessed it, I ordered it a size 16, smaller than my measurements of a size 18. Assuming I could drop some weight. I really killed myself for 8 months, calorie restriction, working out twice a day and managed to lose 18 pounds. Those 18 pounds did not translate to a full dress size for my body and I ended up spending almost as much in alterations as I did on the dress. If I would have just bought the dress the right size in the first place, I would have been more confident instead of being mad at myself for not

brides and bridesmaids protesting the size they should order. The pressure brides put on themselves is crazy. Not only are they planning an event for 150+ people, but most are trying to lose weight before the wedding so they can look “skinny” in their photos.

When Dave and I decided to get married, I worried about being fat, I worried about what my dress would look like, what I would look like. However, I was so excited about Dave and the boys and I finally getting married, I didn't want to leave room for my body shaming in all the love. It was a challenging and very intentional choice to disrupt a lifetime of self talk. But, I wanted the traditional experience of shopping for my dress at Mira's.
Men deal with the same commentary. The “Dad Bod” has gotten a lot of attention lately. Beer bellies are ‘in’ and biceps are ‘out,’ says social media. Leonardo DiCaprio, Seth Rogan, and Jason Segal are “rocking” Dad Bods. Perhaps Chris Pratt shouldn’t have buffed up? Would he be hotter without his new abs? What if the people saying these things are those you love and trust most? Many women have a mother, sister, or other female eal

What about athletes? They’re “boyish,” “buff,” “flat as a board”…the list goes on. Many brides complain about their “broad shoulders” or “masculine” figures. This self-criticism is caused—once again—by the media. They’re told that ladies aren’t supposed to be muscular. Without curves and a little fat on their bones, they no longer look like a woman.

“I admit my size (14/16) was a great concern for me when thinking about trying on a dress. I was so scared it would have to be a basic dress that I had to add shit to just to look decent. My stylist was amazing. She never made me feel as if it wasn't possible to find a beautiful dress just for me. She never brought "ugly" dresses for me to try on. I think it's important for us to

I always recommend bringing a small entourage of loved ones to your appointment, but remember that their opinions are just that. Some of the commentary can be embarrassing. “You’re busting out of that dress” or “that gown gives you back cleavage” are common bride-shaming phrases. First of all, the samples you try on are unaltered and probably not your size. Second, you need to tell them to shush! These comments are not helpful or factual. As women, we need to work on how we talk about one another’s bodies so we can set an example for society.

family member who consistently comments on their figure. Getting over the public’s definition of “pretty” is one thing, but ignoring your mother’s digs is another. While I understand that they’re coming from a good place, comments like, “Have you been stress eating again?” or “Those pants look a little tight, hon…” can be detrimental blows to a girl’s confidence. Now imagine them as you try on bridal gowns. I've witnessed this first hand. I've taken a bride back into her fitting room to boost her confidence after she received unwelcome scrutiny. How do we change this? How can we twist this culture?
If you’re a bride, let your family know which opinions are helpful and which are not. As a member of the entourage, keep your bride’s confidence level up and remind yourself that this is her dream dress, whether you like it or not. Ask yourself: Which one matches her personality and makes her unique beauty glow? The moral of the story? There’s no satisfying the public. One minute you’re supposed to be 100 pounds and the next you need to look like a Kardashian. Discover your own definition of beautiful. Drop the hashtag #NoExcuses. We have plenty of valid excuses. We have a full-time job, lots of friends we want to see, an obsession for good wine, a love for all things cheese-related, and a belief that watching Netflix is therapeutic. Does that mean we are unhealthy? Of course not! We are living a life...enjoy it. What is important is wellness.

Sometimes you make your own luck. In school together since the sixth grade, Alyssa and Forrest's paths would cross occasionally, but it wasn’t until they were both in college that Alyssa decided to invite Forrest to a Friendsgiving dinner. After a wonderful evening of talking and getting to know each other better, they were convinced they should pursue something further. “For our first date, he surprised me at the door with a broccoli floret instead of flowers because he knew I loved broccoli,” explains Alyssa. “The date continued with burgers, milkshakes, and ice skating in Pinecrest, CA. One of my favorite places to visit.” Six months later, Forest proposed to Alyssa in Pinecrest, CA, the same location as their first date. The couple wanted the wedding to be a simple yet elegant wedding so they went with a “rustic charm” theme. The Galas Barn represented much of the charm they desired so they did not want to over-do decorations. A friend designed the chalkboard sign that hung behind the couple and Alyssa turned towards various Etsy vendors for table numbers, signs, and paper goods. After ten months of planning, March 25, 2017 arrived, the day was endearing, simple, and brimming with love.

The inspiration for décor came from Betty's all-time favorite Beauty and the Beast, so decorations included vintage china, vintage clocks and candlesticks, big candelabras, and a bar area that was set-up to look like a library with plenty of books! “Vogue had declared it would be "The Summer of the Rose" and Beauty and the Beast came out in March," explains Betty. "Being sandwiched between those two made it easy to choose roses as the theme of our day.”

s we’ve seen in the movies, sometimes our perfect A match turns out to be someone that was always present in our lives – it just takes a dash of serendipity to realize their importance. During the wedding of one of their best friends, Morgaine and Mark crossed paths. From that point on, the couple would be inseparable. The perfect spring weather of California gave way to the perfect outdoor setting at the Turlock Golf and Country Club for the duo’s vows. Attendees gathered on the lawns, complete with a classic palette of ivory and black. Simple chairs lined the aisle, completed with a white altar highlighted with ivory and blush blooms. Mark watched Morgaine as she made her way down the aisle in her A-line lace gown, cathedral Alencon lace mantilla veil, and soft ivory and pale pink bouquet. Following the ceremony, guests were escorted to the indoor reception inside the Turlock Golf and Country Club. Ivory and black linens and drapes with hints of gold set the tone for the couples celebrations. The centerpieces which included gold ombré painted candles inside of gold birdcages were handmade by Morgaine and her family. “My family was a huge help with stringing the pearls for the decor,” explains Morgaine. “It was quite the assembly line”."

Musician Rachel Leonard sang the couple's wedding song, “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You,” by Elvis Presley, followed by the couple cutting into the wedding cake. “We chose a white cake filled with raspberry mouse and vanilla custard filling,” says Morgaine. “It was amazing, probably one of my favorite things about my wedding.”

Skye & Robert Horn Married June 10, 2017 For couples who love literature, there’s nothing more romantic than a literary wedding. Skye and Robert first met in 2013 while attending college. After realizing the English majors had 4 classes together, “Robert figured it would be a good idea to begin a friendship, claiming that he would be able to get homework from me for any of our four classes if he decided to skip,” explains Skye. Ironically, the duo became close friends and often skipped classes together and had no one to get homework from. Their friendship blossomed and the couple spent the next few years continuing their schooling together. Growing up, Skye spent nearly every summer on her grandmother’s ranch in Oakdale, CA. She considered it her home away from home, so as the couple set their wedding date for June, Skye new the ranch would be the perfect venue. Planning started immediately. Both Robert and Skye love literature and movies, so incorporating that into their theme was an obvious choice. Hand-made wooden arrows placed throughout the reception outlined mythical and literary places such as Neverland, Idris, Wonderland, Gotham, and more. Table centerpieces were created using book boxes, mason jars wrapped in lace and filled with fairy lights and fresh flowers in dusty rose, purple, and finished off with lots of greenery. The groomsmen wore baby's breath boutonnieres and the bridesmaids carried blush pink bouquets. The main challenge the couple faced throughout the whole wedding process was that they live in Los Angeles and the wedding was in Oakdale. Skye worked closely with her mother through the entire wedding planning process. “Thankfully, our families were beyond supportive,” explains Skye. “We were all out there day and night working to make sure it came together, and I don’t believe we will ever be able to thank our parents enough for the hard work they put into this.”

{Literary Love} After spending months learning to perfect making a rose from book pages, Skye was thrilled at how they turned out. Pages taken from books including Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, and Gone with the Wind were transformed into roses used in the bridal party bouquets, the centerpieces, and the cake.

Wine barrels were paired with posts to hold up the lights over the reception. These were created by the bride’s father, her uncle, brother, and the groom. The wood was stained and “worn” to look like it belonged in a forest. On each post were arrows pointing in various directions. These arrows outlined mythical and literary places such as Neverland, Idris, Wonderland, Gotham, and more. Each of these places related personally with favorite books and movies of the bride and groom. All of the lights were strung from the barrel posts but they also doubled as cocktail tables for the guests at the reception.

Joya was raised working on the dairy with her father and developed a great passion for all things cows. As the couple began planning their wedding, she knew their theme should reflect her passion. Travis in dairy construction, and Joya studying Dairy Science, having a wedding themed after the country, dairy, and cows was perfect. “I did things that you wouldn't see in the typical country themed wedding,” explains Joya. “I trained a calf to be the ring bearer, had a branding iron constructed with our initials in place of the unity candle during the ceremony, and we toasted with milk instead of bubbly. Planning the wedding was an adventure. Our big day would not have been the huge success that it was without the help of our friends and family.”

Good things come to those who wait. Justin and Catarina met during prom night in 2010 through mutual friends. Nothing transpired that evening but three years later a quick message over their Twitter accounts would lead them to forever. In 2013, Justin a student at California State University Stanislaus, invited Catarina, a student at Modesto Junior College, on a date, over Slurpees. “At first I was hesitant, but then I decided to give love a chance”. On June 4, 2017 Catarina and Justin were married on the romantic grounds of Vintage Gardens in Modesto, CA. As the couple started planning their wedding they had a few items that were a must: the venue setting, her gown, and the guest list. Catarina had dreamt of an outdoor garden wedding surrounded by close friends and family, and Vintage Gardens was the perfect venue. Once they secured their venue she scheduled her gown shopping appointment. “I knew I wanted a gown by Maggie Sottero,” says Catarina, “and Mira Bridal Couture was the bridal salon I wanted to shop at." Catarina found her gown! A Sottero Midgley by Maggie Sottero, just as she had planned. Lace appliqués, decadently embroidered with dramatic beading and glittering Swarovski crystals, adorn the bodice of her fit and flare gown paired with her Erica Koesler cathedral veil. Catarina and Justin decided on white and green with hints of lavender and gold for her wedding decor. Her Maid of Honor wearing a long chiffon lavender gown and groomsmen in their classic black bowtie tuxedo. “I am so thankful and humbled that my husband and I had the wedding of our dreams,” explains Catarina. “I married my best friend; the love of my life.”

Deidre and Darren might have first locked eyes at Kohl’s, where the two worked in 2012, but it was their flirtatious chemistry that sealed the deal. “It was always endless laughs, flirting, and deep conversations,” explains Deidre. When the Sonora couple decided to wed, they immediately knew Deidre’s grandparent’s property in Jamestown would be the perfect venue. Deidre loved the natural beauty of the property and wanted to select colors and decor that would not interrupt the allure of the scenery. The bridesmaids wore navy blue chiffon and strands of garland and wreaths set the table. The couple had support from friends and family while planning their wedding and looking back couldn’t be more grateful. “It was perfect," expressed Deidre. “It was a heartfelt day full of many emotions.”

fter months of house shopping, Rebecca and Adam decided to drive by one of A Rebecca’s favorite homes on the market. As they pulled up, Rebecca was heartbroken to see the house had a “Sale Pending” sign. Adam convinced Rebecca to take one last look, just in case. Rebecca walked in and was immediately greeted by two banners. “Welcome Home,” and “The Schott’s”. She turned to find Adam on bended knee. During his heartfelt proposal, Adam told Rebecca a story she had never heard. Days before Rebecca’s father had passed away, Adam asked for her father’s blessing. A year later, he decided to purchase the house of her dreams as a surprise. Rebecca was overwhelmed with joy. Planning kicked in immediately with help from Rebecca and Adam’s mothers. “I went to a bridal store in Campbell, CA and thought I found my dream dress. It was the third dress I tried on, explains Rebecca.” “When we went back three months later to pick it up. I put it on and I just felt so upset. It wasn't my dress. My mom knew something was wrong and told me we would find the right wedding gown. The next day we made an appointment at Mira Bridal Couture and I found my dream dress within minutes. It was the most beautiful dress I'd ever seen and I felt like Cinderella in it. I still am so in love with it! Mira saved my wedding.” From that point on, all if the wedding planing was simple. For their wedding venue, Rebecca and Adam booked the Galas Barn in Oakdale, CA. Shades of lavender were selected for the bridesmaids and blush pink and ivory for the floral arrangements. “I have simple and clean taste which played a big role in my decorating and I wanted the least amount of clutter as possible,” says Rebecca. Simplicity was key. "Our wedding was perfect and exactly how we wanted it to be. It truly was the best night ever.”

etting engaged at an aquarium is romantic enough as G it is, but Phillip Peterson took the surprise factor one step further by having a diver help him propose from inside the shark tank! Katie thought she was attending a regularly scheduled shark feeding that they had purchased tickets to while they were on vacation in Maui, Hawaii during the summer of 2015. What she did not realize was, Phillip had carefully partnered with the staff at the aquarium to pop the question. Katie and Phillip took their seats and the show started. Within minutes the diver turned towards Katie holding a sign. “Will you marry me Katie Elizabeth Makalea Powers?” Katie quickly turned to Phillip and he was on bended knee. Planning was simple for the duo. When they took a tour of the grounds at Del Rio Country Club they immediately knew their ceremony would take place under the large oak tree. They both love navy blue and gold and easily agreed on the details around reception decor. With a September wedding, Philip decided to have the groomsmen in a vest and bow tie. The groomsmen with a navy bow tie, the groom in a gold bow tie. Katie found a bridesmaid dress by Dessy to pair perfectly with the color scheme and she loved the design of the open back. As for Katie’s gown, “I knew it was the one once I put it on. I even tried to go to another store and try on different ones, but I never had that magical feeling like I did in the Essence of Australia dress,” explains Katie. “Which is ironic because we had decided to go to Australia for our honeymoon. I was meant to be with that dress.” On the 3rd of September, Katie married her best friend under the oak tree surrounded by friends and family.

“We are both central valley kids who met in September of 2008 while we were away at college in Santa Barbara,” says Vanessa. Vanessa’s college roommate and close friend was also a high school friend of Dorian’s. A FaceBook friend request led to posts that included their friends' mini feeds, which led to texting. Although they frequently hung out in social settings, Vanessa had turned down several of Dorian's date requests. He finally lured her in with a bet, “I can get us a free pizza and pitcher of beer – it’s not a 'date' if I don’t spend money,” he said. Unable to resist a challenge and her favorite food and booze, she agreed. Not knowing that he had brought her to a spot where he had once worked, they walked in to free pizza and pitcher of beer. After a second pitcher and some arcade gaming fun, he thanked her for finally going on a “date” with him. After eight years of dating, the couple wed September 24, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oakdale, CA. Followed by an elegant outdoor reception on a private residence. “It was a truly special time for us,” said Vanessa. “As if it couldn’t get any better, we found out a month after our wedding that we were pregnant.” A huge congratulations to Vanessa and Dorian as they welcomed their daughter, Stella Rae, on June 12, 2017.

“The specialty linen was key because it is aesthetically dominating to the eye, and was the “dress” of our party,” says Vanessa. “Alternating linen made a profound statement by mixing and matching thick, cream and tan stripes for the square tables and a classic elegant floral on the round.”
“The “must-haves” and inspiration all started with the tenting and draping, the alternating of round and square tables and chandeliers with amber up-lights in order to create a warm and love-filled ambiance. “A timeless elegance could only be achieved with neutral colors”, explains Vanessa. “So creams and tans with gold accents were the appropriate color fit.”
Vanessa selected a Lazaro ivory crystal embroidered bridal slip gown, highlighting a deep V neckline on the front and back. A delicately beaded bodice lined with beaded trim paired perfectly with her wedding inspiration. Vanessa paired a cathedral Alencon lace veil to compliment her sweep train.

"Ultimately, the day was my Pinterest board dream come true," explains Vanessa. "Personal details such as in the “ForeverLASSOed� hashtag, photo booth logo, place cards, personally made table numbers, and custom hotel totes that included snacks and special wedding favors were a must. It was the only way to personalize the day in a way that was special to both of us."

Kaitlin and Camilo met each other
in PE class on their first day of high school. The two clicked instantly and remained good friends over the next four years, then went their separate ways for a year just before Camilo joined the Air Force. “We reunited just after Camilo registered for the United States Air Force”, explains Kaitlin. “Our friendship turned into romance immediately.” “Our planning process was tricky,” says Kaitlin. “In April of 2016 Camilo and I were stationed in Minot, North Dakota. We decided to plan our 2017 wedding in Modesto because we both grew up there and all of our friends
and family were there. Since we were over 1500 miles away, I turned to my mother, Mira. She has been in the wedding industry for over ten years, so of course it made perfect sense to have her plan with us.” Kaitlin worked closely with her mother and expressed her ideas for decor, fashion, the guest list, food, and music. Through hundreds of text messages and emails, Mira was confident she understood their vision. Kaitlin and Camilo flew home for the holidays and spent several days squeezing in appointments with venues, caterers, photographers, and their DJ. They finalized their wedding party attire, and
of course, Kaitlin found her wedding gown at her mother’s bridal salon. Following the ceremony, guests were entertained by local musician Neil Buettner, The Platinum Photo Booth, and tray passed hors d’oeuvres. Hand made scrolls with each guests name hung from the champagne flutes filled with pink bubbly as everyone was escorted to the reception.
she hired. One of the first vendors she hired was George, the owner of Sounds in Motion DJ. Kaitlin has known George and his wife Erin since she was ten years old and she was thrilled to have him emcee the entire night; and since Erin is the owner of The Century, Kaitlin knew she would be in good hands. The evening was intimate, with a selective guest list of 90. Ghost chairs lined the aisle with a variety of ivory flower arrangements and candles. Six flower girls dressed in mix and match beaded and feathered tutu dresses with capes dropping rose petals as they preceded the bride.

Kaitlin wore an elegant Martina Liana gown with an illusion racerback and grand train with lace-edge detailing. Kaitlin was escorted by her father, and her mother served as Matron of Honor. A special treat for Kaitlin was their three tier round wedding cake. Debra from Creative Cakes by Deb has been making cakes for Kaitlin since her 13th birthday and it was meaningful for her to have Debra create her wedding cake too. Kaitlin and Camilo chose red velvet and chocolate layers draped in ivory and gold frosting. Throughout the planning process my mom would send pictures that included
her dropping our Save the Dates in the mailbox, the assembly line of invitations she worked for hours on, and various add-ons she was pulling together. It was difficult to not be there with her but we could not have pulled off such an ornate and stylish affair,” explains Kaitlin. “We are forever grateful.” Shortly after their wedding, Camilo was deployed. Kaitlin temporarily moved back to Modesto to be close to her friends and family until her husband returns safe. Congratulations to Kaitlin and Camilo and thank you for your service.

Karissa & MacGregor Goodhart Married October 8, 2016
hen deciding where to marry her beloved, W Karissa Pearce could not think of a better place than her aunt and uncle’s property. Though she and MacGregor Goodhart currently reside in San Rafael, they thought it best to wed in the location closest to family and friends. Five years after meeting at their workplace, the Historic Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, Karissa walked down the aisle to A Thousand Years played by the Cello Duo the couple hired for the ceremony. “I chose to get married on my aunt and uncle’s property,” says Karissa. “It provided the intimate, rustic, garden feeling I was looking for.” Wood vineyard chairs dotted the grassy lawn, and leafy garlands ornamented with white roses decorated the seating along the aisleway. Attendants preceded the bride down the aisle in portobello lace and chiffon floor length gowns. Groomsmen donned classic navy suits and ties, boutonnieres fashioned from alabaster blooms, and silk ties in the shade of the maids’ dresses. MacGregor sported a similarly handsome ensemble, with a ivory silk tie to match his bride’s gown.

Karissa was a vision of grace as she glided down the aisle on her father’s arm to meet MacGregor underneath a natural arch adorned with florals and greenery. Her gown was embellished with lace appliqués and featured a sweetheart neckline and chapel train finished with a cathedral veil. Following the ceremony, guests made their way across the magical landscape to the elaborate tented structure. A canopy of ivory-colored drapery lined with twinkling string lights. Strands of greenery and scattered candles lined the long reception tables, and a suspended birchwood branch wrapped in lights highlighted the wedding party table. Karissa ordered wood tree cookies from Easy and with the help of MacGregor and a friend of his, they burned each guests name on the front and their initials “K & M” on the back. Three separate tiers: white, carrot, and chocolate cake were on full display throughout the celebration and featured a donut bar that included every variety, from glazed and chocolate frosted to maple bars. Once the confection was sliced, she and William shared a special first dance to the classic tune “More of You,” by Chris Stapleton. The band kept the party going until the clock struck midnight.
The couple's wedding planner, Ann Calist, helped create the backdrop and other DIY projects from the bar to the dessert table along with help from Karissa's mother and Grandfather. Karissa found a custom engraved wood handle cake cutting set on Etsy that paired perfectly with wood tree cookie place cards and dessert signs.

After four happy years together, Marissa and Wyatt decided it was time to tie the knot. They organized a secluded “backyard picnic style wedding” at Vintage Gardens, and invited some of their closest family and friends - who had no idea the couple would be getting married. The guests believed they were attending the couples engagement party and were caught by surprise when queued by Cat Power’s “Sea of Love”, Marissa suddenly appeared, escorted by her father, walking through the grand redwood doors. Wyatt anxiously waited at the gazebo accompanied by Marissa’s step-father, who officiated their ceremony. Following their nuptials, the couple immediately moved to the dance floor as “Sleepwalk” by Santo & Johnny played as their first dance. Marissa and Wyatt pulled off their covert operation to perfection, with a charming and intimate setting, sweet DIY decor, vintage tablecloths, and home cooked comfort food. Marissa’s grandmother and uncles made her favorite fried chicken and home made mashed potatoes, paired perfectly with corn bread Wyatt had made. For two months, the couple worked late into the evening planning their surprise event. “Somehow we pulled it off,” Marissa explains, ”it was the most incredible evening made possible through personal connections, fueled by love”.
Marissa and Wyatt leaned to their friends and family for much of the party planning. Ashley from Camp 4 Wine Cafe' created the Cheese & Charcuterie boards, and their friend Amanda made the hand drawn calligraphy window panes. Other DIY projects included wine bottle flower vases and vintage picnic baskets and blankets.

“The biggest and best decision we made was to have our wedding at the Century,” explains Rylee. “We attended a wedding there a few months before we got engaged and fell in love with the venue. Once the question had been popped, the tours of other venues just did not meet our expectations. I am so thankful I did because I truly was able to relax and enjoy the day.”
