Blade Runner 2049 captivates audiences through its wide tracking shots, visually impressive aerial shots, and even the tiny details in the materials. The presence of space tells a lot of narrative where dialogues just couldn’t. the presence of architecture tells a lot of history and the ongoing story and where it is heading, the appreciation of space is not only achieved through how the movie it is shot. But how it is lit up and designed in that way, to contemplate and reflect the narrative, hopefully expanding and emphasizes the nuances and ideas of the movie even further.
This movie is one of the best examples on how architecture can be achieved so masterfully that you can tell a whole story without relying too much on exposition. Much like the real field of architecture, it is about showing not telling about how we utilise space to our benefit. The production design of this movie took extremes and went method on how they approach to design the world.
