OBITUARIES Robert (Bob) Caldera Oct. 6, 1967-April 13, 2010 On April 13, Bob passed away unexpectedly at the age of 41 due to a massive heart attack. He was the sole provider for his wife Dawn and their three children: Nicholas, 12; Brandon, 10; and Rebecca, 7. Bob was a resident of Brentwood and an active coach with the Brentwood PONY League. He grew up in Concord, where he graduated from Concord High School and was a member of the Concord Blue Devils. He is survived his by father, Jim (Dema); brothers and sisters, Steve, Kelly (Lyle) Larimer, Jaymie and Cathy; and his grown daughter, Jessika (Kevin) Kibble. Bob will be deeply missed by many and forever in our hearts. A memorial fund has been set up for his children at Wells Fargo Bank. Bonnie Martinez (Butler) Bonnie Martinez, 64, died in Antioch on April 13 with her family by her side. Bonnie was born in Pittsburg on Aug. 29, 1945 to Burl and Vival Bulter. She was the twin sister of Connie Florida. Bonnie was a loving wife and mother. She loved to camp with her family and really enjoyed the outdoors. She was also a longtime waitress in Antioch. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Burl and Vival; brothers, Harold
and Hershel Butler; and nephew, Robert Vengley. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Martinez; four children, Bonnie and Ronald Zeeb, Jamie Benton, James and Karen Benton, and Stacey Bartner; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers. Benjamin Paul Mullen Feb. 27, 1979-April 23, 2010 Ben Mullen, son of John and Bonnie Mullen of Discovery Bay, is survived by his wife, Susana; brothers, Greg and Darrell Mullen of Discovery Bay, Kirk Boyum and sister, Tammy Michael, both of San Francisco; Jeremiah Mullen of Bowling Green, Ky.; Heidi Whitley of Ashland Ore.; Michelle K. Ressler of the San Mateo area; and grandmother, Jeanine Landucci of Modesto. Special mention to Jose Sanchez and little Vanessa Aguirre, children he loved and cared for as his own, and of course, many aunts, uncles, nephews and a niece. Ben was a lifelong resident of Livermore. He was born in the family home, brought up in an English-only family and became fluent in Spanish. He overcame many obstacles, including the ravages of his illness, to finally become a qualified Christian minister and served in his hometown community. He was warmhearted and always had a friendly smile for customers at the several restaurants he worked at in Livermore. He also worked in the roofing trade. He will be missed by his many friends and family and remembered by our loving Creator. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15 at 2 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 878 Herman Ave. in Livermore.
In Memoriam Clinton Furr June 27, 1948-Nov. 5, 2009 Clinton David Furr passed away on Nov. 5, 2009. He was born to Cecil and Lennie Furr in Hayward on June 27, 1948. Engagement
Essayist extraordinaire Liberty High School graduates Brad Moran, 26, and Kristyn Bauer, 26, are engaged to be married. Brad is a chef and Kristyn is a veterinarian technician. After their wedding this October, they are planning to live in the Discovery Bay/Brentwood area. Congratulations!
Freedom High School senior Caitlin Rice earned second place and $2,000 for her essay on “The Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit During Your College Years.” Caitlin accepted the award at a recent California Association of Collectors Educational Scholarship Foundation event in Sacramento. Her essay was selected as one of the top three out of 922 essays submitted. Congratulations, Caitlin!
Saxcess Ross Bronzan recently signed his scholarship acceptance letter from CSU Long Beach and will be performing his sax with the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music. Bronzan is a member of the Heritage High School award-winning Symphonic and Jazz Band. He also plays in his own jazz, rock, Latin and swing band called Deja Blue and participates in school and community theater.
