PUTTING THE PRIDE IN BRENT

This year has been a challenging time for us all, but during the uncertainty we have seen some amazing people step up to support their fellow residents

We asked you to DANIEL’S DEN recognise the people PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP you think have supported Brent’s communities through this difficult time and you did not disappoint with more than 230 nominations received. Here are some of the people and organisations who have worked to make life a bit easier for others in 2020. They are the Pride of Brent. Daniel’s Den has helped to keep families connected during the pandemic when they can’t physically meet, have shopped for the elderly when they’ve been unable to go out and sent out thousands of craft packs to families.

Desi Dhaba donated 200,000 meals to NHS workers

DESI DHABA Desi Dhaba kindly produced and donated 200,000 meals to NHS workers during the first wave of the pandemic even though they had been open less than 100 days before the first lockdown was announced. This is not an easy feat and they did this without any additional funding or sponsorship.

Cuore supported 80 local families

CUORE ITALIAN DELI & COFFEE SHOP Cuore is already a pillar of our community. From the beginning of the pandemic it doubled its food donations in order to support 80 local families in serious need, organised their own food bank inside the shop and was giving away free masks and sanitizer to all customers and elderly local residents.

PATRICIA WHARTON Patricia Wharton has continuously supported the African and African-

Patricia Wharton has helped people throughou the pandemic Caribbean community through the pandemic on a daily basis distributing food to elderly people who couldn’t make it to the supermarkets as they were vulnerable. She has also counselled young people feeling seriously anxious about COVID-19.

HEMA MISTRY Hema runs the Chamberlayne Avenue Resident’s Association and brings everyone together as a united group. Hema leads with many initiatives such as matters concerning the community, safeguarding from local crime, working closely with the residents in tackling issues on the street and surrounding areas.

London Elite helped with mental and physical wellbeing

LONDON ELITE The London Elite is a basketball club based out of Capital City Academy in Harlesden. During the lockdown the coaching staff held daily online zoom sessions on mental health and wellbeing, as well as conditioning and basketball skill sessions. This helped to ensuring all players were in a good place mentally as-well as physically throughout lockdown. A full list of entrants is available at www.brent.gov. uk/prideofbrent
