The Industry of Ingenuity

Santa Teresa Rum, A Farm Industry The Santa Teresa Ranch, founded in 1796, witnessed the birth of heroes of the Independence and was devastated during the Federal War; nevertheless, thanks to its owners’ efforts, it has become Venezuela’s rum cradle. Today, this 200 year old heritage, is available for the enjoyment of the general public, allowing access to monuments of the history of Venezuela, such as The Mansion of Conde Tovar and The Consejo Railway Station. In addition, visitors can access areas of the plant where rum is being processed. For the development of this project, it is suggested that there is a need to remodel Santa Teresa industry, due to the fact that rum production will double in the next few years, but keeping in mind that it must retain the farm character that defines her, and also provide the necessary spaces for the public’s interaction with the rum production processing, in a safe and didactic manner. Within the project, it is recommended to create an urban border in the north-east area of the farm, which allows for public space to the town of El Consejo, as well as educational and cultural infrastructures related to rum processing, and sports centers for the use of the community. The industrial complex is arranged in a radial shape around the symbolic Chaguaramos Cross, looking to emphasize its importance and meaning as the heart of the farm.
