Steps Taken to Prevent World Wars By: Carmen Crabtree You may have noticed the different changes and steps the U.S has taken lately to prevent more terrible world wars from happening. The steps our nation is taking to prevent another world war are, we are taking a break from other countries. The U.S has come up with the idea to create the League of Nations, so we can think about peace throughout the world. We are beginning to trust more countries with pacts, and we are getting out of entanglements with Latin American countries, that have been at war for awhile or that have been mad at us too. As a nation, we are closing ourselves off from other countries. We decided to not join the League of Nations, we don’t want to sign a treaty that caused us to go to war if one of the countries in the league were to be attacked. Our country has grown distrustful of immigrants that Congress decided to create the Emergency Immigrant Act. Our county is thinking that if we stop letting immigrants in, then we wouldn’t be in as much trouble with other countries. We don’t want to be in political arguments or foreign conflicts either. If we got involved in any arguments then those countries we backed up would think we would have their back in a war. We also don’t see any benefit in working with countries who take our money. They would just be debt and we might cause conflict over money. The U.S has come up with a great idea, and that idea is to start the League of Nations. This league is going to help promote peace throughout the world and if there is a conflict, then countries will talk about it. The League of Nations will also help other countries with military and economic sanctions. The league has decided that if there ever is a conflict, they would use firearms and military as a last resort to end the conflict. The league just wants to have global health throughout the world. Unfortunately, the U.S did not decide to join the League of Nations even though we came up with the idea. Our older president Warren G. Harding said we weren’t ready to join something that big yet.

We have begun to trust more countries with agreements and pacts. These pacts have nothing to do with going to war with each other if some country is attacked. We signed a pact with France, Britain, Japan have now signed the Four Power Pact. This pact says that they won’t use each other’s islands. If they were to use each others land then they would need to talk it out. We have also signed a pact with Britain, Japan, France, and now Italy has signed the Five-Power Naval Limitation Treaty. This says that all the countries who have signed the treaty are saying that they will have a 10 year stop on creating huge naval war ships. We signed with the French for the French Peace Pact saying that these two countries will not go to war with each other ever. The U.S has met up with 63 countries to sign the Kellogg Briand Pact to outlaw war. We are hoping that this should stop all wars between the 63 countries.

Finally, the U.S has decided to break our ties with Latin America. Our president Herbert Hoover has now said that it is not our problem to get in Latin American disputes. We are going to reduce our troop entanglements with Hati, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. We also decided to end our dispute with Columbia over the Panama Canal so we took out our troops that were guarding the canal. What had started this whole idea to leave Latin America was our old president Warren G. Harding he took away troops in the Dominican Republic. This is what sparked Hoover’s idea. In the end the U.S has taken many steps to prevent more wars from happening. Our last three presidents claimed that World War l would be the war to end all wars. So we took some steps and precautions to prevent something like that to happen again. So far these steps have worked. So let's keep our 3 fingers crossed and hope these steps last for awhile.

The Downfall of corporations and Economy of the 1920s When the 1920s came into affect it started a slippery slope that lasted till the late 30s, called a deregulation affect and on businesses as well as consumers. {the removal of regulations or restrictions, especially in a particular industry}. This effect on the people in the U.S for a rich future, giving the government your trust with your money was the thing to do at the time while everything was getting started, there was lot of trial and era. The 1920s was an interesting time while the economy was booming, americans now could own stocks, there were banks that where trusted with everyone's money but when people came to get there deposits and savings the bank didn't have it. So people started to get afraid of spending there money so jobs were cut in these started a new era called the great depression. The president wasn't much help at the time with the scandalous things that were being said about him Harry the president tried to bank 75,000 dollars with 12,000 salary, which was later revealed that he was robbing the public. This made the economy slumped, Wall street and different corporations like General Motors, AT and T where really affected by this sales going down as well as help needed for the corporations leading them to lay off workers. But things were soon changing the economy was trying to bounce back while the government not enforcing the right laws on companies. There Wasn't a antitrust law being enforced so larger companies could become monopolies and these companies gather money by selling stocks and bonds, so that meant fewer banks loans which led to credit which help customers build back the economy, americans were now trying use a system where u buy now and pay later, little by little overtime. 4

Radicalists bomb politicians, thousand arrested in response Written by, Logan L

The roaring twenties have been a time of change and peace in america. But other countries not so much, communism has taken over part of Russia and has plans to expand world wide. If the communists, also known as reds, get to america, it could result in a revolution. Because of this threat, people started to fear the reds, and their fears grew when “may day bombs were sent to several officials homes through the mail. After this act of terrorism people thought twice on what they did or bought as not to be a target of the radicalists or the government.

One of the homes that were bombed belonged to alexander palmer, he soon started a campaign to round up the commies known as the palmer raids. You would have to be careful on what you bought of did, because it could get you arrested. Even criticizing the government could get you wound up in jail. Over this period over 6000 suspected radicals were arrested, some without a trial. The raids left the radical movement crippled. Most of the arrested were let out and everything is back to working order.

Return of normalcy By: Ahmed Ibrahim The ¨return of normalcy¨ Is a speech by president Harding that promised the return of how life was before world war one. President Harding saw that war as a madness for people. He wanted an isolationist country in which America would withdraw from world affairs. He saw that America is tired of responsibilities and crashed in devastation. He thought the Returning to normalcy will benefit the United States Hardings promised was to return the united states power and mentality without the thought of war tuning their minds of the American citizen. Harding wanted the return of normalcy to make life better for Americans away from the war affair with foreign countries. he said ¨...Let's get out of the fevered delirium of war.¨ He wanted an isolationist country in which America would withdraw from the world affairs. He wanted to replace Wilson construction on the world affair by focusing on property at home. President Harding said in this speech ” America's present need is not heroics but healing not nostrums but normalcy not revolution but an adjustment not surgery but serenity….¨

America is tired of responsibilities and crusade, and the devastation those that were brought by the Great War with Europe. Almost every person living in the U.S believed that the problem are too confusing and best ignored. president Harding wanted the people to forget about the great war and do what they were doing before the war started. In conclusion, the “return to normalcy” will benefit the United States. The United States will stay out of world affairs, and the country won’t have to suffer to provide for the military if there is no war. President Harding won the election because of his promise to keep the nation out of the war, unlike Wilson who got us in the war and supported the idea to involved in the Great War. Hopefully, after the “return to normalcy” campaign there won’t be any more wars like The Great War.

Presidents in the 1920’s Our country has been in a lot of trouble. We have been in debt and our economy has crashed. Presidents Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and Herbert Hoover helped us out of most of this trouble. They helped us by meeting with other countries to talk about important topics. They protected us from raids, putting important laws in effect, and helping our country get back on our feet after the market crashed. Harding helped get our country back to normal after World War 1 with his famous speech. So theses presidents have helped America a lot. In the Republican Era, the presidents of the 1920’s done a lot to help our country. They made a pact with France so they will never to go to war with each other. Hoover cut ties with Latin America. Also, the US came up with the idea to create the League of Nations. We have also agreed to outlaw wars in 63 countries, including ours. The presidents also helped by signing treaties to stop with building Naval ships and military weapons. Also, Woodrow Wilson helped stop the Red Scare by administering the Palmer raids. Before the raids he warned Americans about hyphenated Americans (Americans of foreign birth or origin). He thought that they would spread disloyalty and anarchism. The public thought the same when the bombs were sent in the mail as a act of terrorism. Also, the Republican Era was an interesting era, with Harding having scandalous issues within presidency. Eventually he was able to established his credit again. Hoover has lessened altercation with Latin America, while Woodrow Wilson started putting laws affect to come back from the stock market crash for a good money system.

Finally, president Harding’s “Return to Normalcy” states that the U.S. would withdraw from world affairs and that the federal government would help promote big businesses. In the short time since this took effect, America and Americans benefited. The “Return to Normalcy” is an excellent idea because the country won’t have to suffer to provide for the military if there is no war. Harding speech made the people forget about the great war and go back to the way things were before the war.. In the end, the presidents in the 1920’s have helped America prosper and build more businesses. This gave more people more jobs, and they made began to trust more countries. They helped protect our country. They were also able to save our country in a bad time of debt. These presidents have done a lot to help our country in a time of need.
