Eachmemberoftheaudiencemustbeprovidedwithakazooandtwocandies(onefortherehearsal,onefortheconcert). Eachmemberoftheorchestraandthetwoconductorsmustalsobeequippedwithakazoo.
Theperformancerequires: –asecondconductorfacingtheaudience; –ajointaudienceandorchestrarehearsalofabout25’/30'beforetheconcertbegins.
Thefollowingpassagesarerecommendedfortherehearsal:
Gourmandish: bars 9–30, 93–128, 134–158, then the whole movement.
Dadalian: bars 201–232, from bar 272 through to the end , then the whole movement To indicate when the audience is divided into two sections, we suggest the second conductor dons two hats alternately: a red one (when the women and children sing) andablackone(whenthemensing).Whenhe’swearingneitherhat,itmeansthateverybodyshouldsingtogether.
Kazoolingo: from the beginning to bar 355 (on the beat) , 362–375, 383–399, 416–419, then the whole movement until bar 419 (soasnottogiveawaythefinalsurpriseoftheorchestralaughingwiththeirkazoos).
Duration: about 12' + the rehearsal (25'/30')
The score is in C
Piccolo is notated one octave lower (normal transposition)
Double basses are notated one octave higher (normal transposition)
