An evolving 14km series of nordic ski loop trails, maintained by the Skmana Ski Club surrounding beautiful wetlands and intimate twin lakes. Plus a system of new snowshoe trails continue to grow and compliment the winter nordic season. A winter warming hut provides a cozy place to gather pre-and-aprés ski. Trail use fee: by donation to the Skmana Ski Club. ACCESS: From Downtown Chase follow Pine Street north to the Neskonlith Lake Road. Travel west along this gravel road for 3 km, where you will come to a fork. Take the right fork and go up the hill. You will be rewarded here with a spectacular view of Little Shuswap Lake, the Villages of Chase and Adams Lake First Nations, as well as the South Thompson River and the farmlands along the VLA road. Stay on this road for another 10 km. until you pass under the B.C. Hydro transmission lines. Watch for the parking lot on your left.
The Mt Baldy trail (built in the fall 2013) is a collaborative project between the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Area C Parks Commission, the Sorrento and Area Community Association, and the Shuswap Trail Alliance. It’s an intermediate snowshoe or ice cleat walk (3.3 kms uphill) through mixed forests to a great lookout over the lake. A newer 1.7 km upper loop trail was blazed (Summer 2014) and brushed for more adventurous and experienced hikers to explore. A final addition to a side view part way up the trail was built along with a reroute to the upper ridge (Fall 2016). Combined with the upper loop, the trail to the lookout and back makes a perfect 7.6 km hike through changing forest ecosystems with viewpoint rewards along the way.

A perfect 3 - 4 hour outing complete with a stop at Cec’s Cabin for lunch and a warm fire. Cec’s Cabin is 5km from the parking lot straight up Larch Hills Road. There are a few options to get to Cec’s Cabin from the main parking lot. Option one is to head straight up Larch Hills Road to the South Hub. Once at the South Hub continue up Larch Hills Road along some easy rolling hills with views to Hunter’s Range up to Cec’s Cabin. Option two offers a longer and more scenic tour through some of the popular lower trails. Head up Metford Rd, across Bilbo’s Bog, and onto the Ermine Frolic Loop which meets up with Reino’s Run and brings you to the South Hub.20 For a fun Avenue way out, head out on Alder Lane to Sky Trail for some fast downhill tracks back to the South Hub. Make your way back to the parking area through the lower trails.
• All trails are wilderness recreational trails. Be prepared and knowledgeable in winter travel and navigation.

With over 150 km of trails (over 50km trackset; 100km non-trackset) that include classic and skate skiing, multiple combinations make for many loop variations. Consider booking an overnight in the Main Chalet loft or Cec’s Cabin and explore new trails over several days. (Visit www.skilarchhills.ca for booking information). For those new to the area, here are three favourite track set trail combinations to try,
10 Avenue Head up Metford Road and take a left at the top of the hill onto Skyview. Follow Skyview through rolling forested canopy up to Sentinel which will head off to your right. If you have time, ski the extra 2KM to the Lake View viewpoint for a great photo opportunity with Shuswap Lake in the background. Continue back on Sentinel around to Woodlot. Keep an eye out for moose tracks on this section as its a favourite winter habitat for this animal. On Woodlot get ready for a lot of downhill all the way to Sunshine. Once on Sunshine, it is a comfortable 2km ski back to the Chalet.

TRAILHEAD GPS: 11 U 344351E 5617966N
South Canoe is a busy trail destination for winter walking (ice cleats) and snowshoeing, plus a growing number of winter fat-tire mountain bikers. (Packed snowshoe trails double as excellent winter bike trails.) It also provides access to the Larch Hills trail system above, as well as the Larch Hills Traverse. In the winter, it is sometimes possible to ski to the Larch Hills Nordic trails thanks to tracksetting by the Larch Hills Nordic Society.

DURATION: Various
A large year-round network of trails built and used by snowshoers and skiers in the winter; and hikers, local equestrian riders, and mountain bikers when the snow melts. Under the newly developed management plan driven by local trail stewards in partnership with the City of Salmon Arm and the Province, the system has received new trail signage, several reroutes and new trail additions.
Join us for a winter you’ll never forget, and find out why it’s one of our top four favourite seasons. We’ve got an endless variety of terrain - from gentle hills to rugged slopes - and easy driving access to the trailheads.
