These courses are suitable for new Sixth Form pupils as well as pupils who have completed the GCSE courses but do not wish to continue with the CCNA course. Cisco Networking Essentials is an Industry Certification course at Level 2. Pupils learn the basics of network communication, the role of switches and routers as well as the function of IP addressing. The aim is to complete this course by the end of the Lower Sixth.
“Love it! The course is hands on and the combination of theory and practical work suits my learning style.”
The CompTIA A+ is an Industry Certification course at Level 3 is followed in the Upper Sixth. Pupils learn about computer components, troubleshooting, mobile devices, printers and scanners as well as viruses, worms and various security measures. Both courses are internationally recognised. Will this course be suitable for me? If you are interested in computers and prepared to work hard then this course will offer you a route to a bright future. It is very much “full on” and pupils have to apply themselves every day. What could this course lead to? Some pupils will complete the full course within one year (Lower Sixth) and then they will start on the CCNA course in the Upper Sixth. The main focus is to gain an IT Apprenticeship.
