JAPANDI

A perfect blend of minimalism and nature

In recent years, the Japandi design trend has been gaining popularity among design enthusiasts and tea lovers alike. This style is a combination of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian design, resulting in a charming blend of hygge and wabisabi. One way to bring this trend into your home is by adding a teapot, a cosy must-have item in both Japanese and Scandinavian cultures.

The Japandi design trend emphasizes simplicity and functionality. It uses a neutral colour

palette and (natural) materials such as wood, stone, cast iron and bamboo. The idea behind

Duet® Design Boston 111009

this style is to create a calm and peaceful atmosphere by removing clutter and focusing

4 l Tastemakers

on essential elements. Teapots are an excellent example of this philosophy as they serve a practical purpose while also being aesthetically pleasing. A teapot made from materials such ceramics, bamboo or cast iron can add a touch of nature to your home while also being functional.

The perfect teapot

When it comes to choosing a teapot for your Japandi home, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, look for teapots

made from materials such as cast iron or ceramics. These materials are not only beautiful but also have excellent heat retention, making them ideal for brewing tea. Additionally, look for teapots with simple designs and clean lines that reflect the minimalist aesthetic of the Japandi trend.

Teapots as decorative object

Another way to incorporate teapots into your Japandi home is by using them as decorative objects. A teapot can be displayed on a shelf or

as part of a tea set on a coffee table. In this case, it's essential to choose a teapot that complements your existing decor. Look for teapots with colours or patterns that match your furniture and accessories.

Brewing tea

When it comes to brewing tea in your Japandi teapot, there are a few tips to keep in mind. First, use loose-leaf tea instead of tea bags. Loose-leaf tea has a more robust and complex flavour, which complements the simple and natural aesthetic of the Japandi trend. Use water that is the right temperature for your type of tea and use a timer to ensure that you brew your tea for the correct amount of time.

The black tea guide for tea lovers

Black tea is a strong, bold and rich tea type. It’s a popular drink worldwide, not only because of the complex flavours but because it also contains antioxidants and caffeine and is therefore used as a healthy replacement for coffee. Black tea gained it’s popularity because of the large variety of full-body flavours, ranging from citrusy, to floral, to smokey. In this black tea guide we’ll tell you more about black teas, their flavours and origin.

The history of black tea can be traced back to late 16th century China. Up until then, only green tea and oolong teas were consumed. Black tea was originally called hong cha, ‘red

tea’, because of the colour the oxidized leaves give the water. The first black tea type to be discovered was Lapsang Souchong, a tea produced in the Wuyi Mountains.

All types of tea come from the same plant, the Camelia Sinensis, including black tea. To get black tea, the leaf is crushed or broken after picking to speed up the reaction with oxygen and to allow oxidation to take place. Finally, the leaf turns from brown to black and is rolled and dried. However, there are many black

Minuet® Santhee 1.4L 121003

tea varieties. We will tell you more about our selection below.

Darjeeling black tea

A beautiful and complex tea type with a full body muscatel flavour and is often described as spicy. It’s also known as the champagne of tea! Darjeeling is mostly grown in tea gardens in India.

English Breakfast black tea

A very popular tea type that often accompanies a rich variety of breakfast foods. Breakfast blends are light and sweet teas, often infused with Assam, Ceylon or Darjeeling. There’s a lot of speculation about the origin, from a Scottish tea master to an American vendor, but in the end the tea became popular in England.

Ceylon black tea

Ceylon tea is a pure tea type from Sri Lanka. It’s a full body tea with citrus flavours. Because of its strong flavours it’s perfect for Chai Latte!

Earl Grey black tea

One of the most popular black tea blends is of course Earl Grey. This fruity, floral tea is mainly Assam or Darjeeling tea infused with bergamot oil and vanilla. Earl Grey tea was named after a British Prime Minister in the 18th century who received the flavoured tea as a gift.

Masala Chai black tea

You’ve probably heard of Chai Tea or Chai Tea Latte, which comes from the Masala Chai. This spicy tea is made with a few basic ingredients: black tea, milk, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper and cardamom. Nowadays, the drink is popular worldwide but it originates from South Asia.

Lapsang Souchong black tea

An exquisite tea type known for its deep smoky flavour. As one of the first known black teas in existence it’s also known as the king of all teas. As legend has it, the smoking process was discovered by accident. It is said that an army was camped out in a local tea factory that was full of drying leaves. The leaves had to be moved to make room for the soldiers, and by the time they left the leaves needed to be dried quickly so they could be sold. So the tea factory workers lit up fires with pinewood to dry the leaves more quickly. As a result, they discovered a new tea flavour! No one knows whether this is true, or if it’s just a really good story.

Tea time = me time

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it's important to find moments to ourselves. To consciously pay attention to your physical and mental well-being. A cup of tea will allow you to escape from all the hectic and truly relax. Not just the tea itself, but also making the tea can have a calming effect. Choose your favourite type, pour over the hot water and enjoy watching the water slowly changing colour and the aromas that are released. That more and more people choose to enjoy a tea ritual is evident from the many tea moments that are shared with us by people from around the world.

a white interior with natural elements

White is a beautiful, clean and fresh colour that works well in many rooms. A white home interior design works well in almost every surrounding: whether your house is small or large, and whether you have a lot of natural (sun) light or little. White has a calm and serene look that gives a welcoming, spacious feeling, making it perfect for kitchens and living rooms. It is a classic and timeless colour that can be used on walls, furniture, focal points, accessories and more.

White and wood look

Another beautiful interior trend is the combination of white

colour shades with a natural and organic look. The freshness and crispness of white colours is combined with the natural, zen elements of home decorations and products. We especially love the use of wood and bamboo in home interiors and home decoration. And let’s not forget plants!

Decorate your home with white products

A modern white interior truly comes alive when you start

decorating it. And if you really love white, why not take it all the way and decorate with white products? Many products are available in white, because black and white interior design ideas have always been popular and continue to be. And unlike many other ‘trend’ colours, white never goes out of style.

That’s why many of our beloved teapots come in the colour white. From double-walled teapots made from stainless steel, to ceramic and porcelain. Your favourite household product in your favourite design colour. Find your favourite here!

Sustainable maternity gifts are very trendy. At a time when sustainability is becoming increasingly important, more and more people are choosing gifts that have lasting value. Not knick-knacks that are thrown out after they’ve been used a few times, but gifts that last a lifetime.

Maternity gifts with lasting value

Zilverstad has been making children’s gifs for almost 150 years. Looking for a unique gift for a newborn? Go for a children's cutlery set, money box, tooth box or rattle. You can even personalize it with an engraving, like a name, date of birth, or a charming symbol, making it a one-of-a-kind gift that eternalizes a beautiful memory.

Money boxes

A money box is a fun and 6851261

original gift. It looks nice on a shelf in the nursery, but is also a practical gift when the child learns to save at a later age. We have a nice collection of silver-coloured money boxes to choose from. From animals to vehicles and of course our favorite bunny Miffy!

Traditional rattles

Giving a rattle is an old tradition: it is said to protect the baby against evil. Rattles were hung above the cradle to keep

the baby safe. These days, the thought behind giving a rattle may be a little different, but it's still a thoughtful and fun baby gift. Especially since a rattle is a gift a baby can play independently with for the first time!

Taking their first bites with children’s cutlery

A cutlery or diner set is a gift that a child will enjoy throughout childhood. It is a gift that the parents can keep until the child is old enough to learn to eat independently.

Music calms the baby

A music box is a popular item at every baby shower. The tunes brings a smile to our faces and makes little newborn babies fall asleep more easily. A win-win if you ask us!

How to choose the perfect photo frame

With photo frames in your interior you can give your most beautiful memories or your favourite photo a special place in your home. Photos create atmosphere and add a personal touch to your interior. When it comes to choosing a photo frame, there are many options to choose from. These are a few points to keep in mind when you’re choosing yours.

Photo frame Bordeaux 10 x 15 cm | 13 x 18 cm Photo frame Nice 10 x 15 cm | 13 x 18 cm

When you have chosen the photo or poster that you would like to frame, it is useful to consider whether you want a standing frame or hang it on the wall. For example, do you want to place the frame on a shelf or cabinet or hang it above your couch or in the hallway? All are good choices! But to keep your options open, always check whether your frame is suitable for standing or whether it has a hook for hanging up.

The shape

There is a lot to choose from in terms of sizes, but there are also many options when it comes to

the shape of the photo frames. For example, you can go for a square or rectangular frame, but also round or oval. In the case of an oval or rectangular frame, also consider whether you want to hang it horizontally or vertically. You could also opt for a collage frame that fits multiple photos.

The size

When you get a photo printed, the standard size for a small image is 10 by 15 cm. It’s not hard to find a frame for this measurement. Would you like to have a different size or an extra-large photo printed? First, take a good look at the dimensions of the frame you have in mind, so that your photo will fit in the frame of your choice!

With or without background

If your photo doesn’t fit in the frame properly, you can choose to add a white background or cut-out frame. For

this option, keep in mind that the ratio of your photo determines the amount of visible white background and therefore can affect its composition in the frame. If your photograph is very colourful, a white background can balance it out.

Colour and material

The colour you choose depends on your interior and your preferences. And, on what goes with the colours in your chosen photo or image. You can also take this into account when choosing the material. The material and the colour of the frame can truly elevate your photograph.

The spot

Think about where you are going to place your frame(s) beforehand. Do you have enough space to hang up a frame, or two? And how is the light in that exact location? Your photographs will come out best in a well-lit spot. When you’ve chosen your frame, you can combine different shapes and sizes to create a playful effect.

In short, plenty of choices to make when looking for a beautiful frame for your photograph!

Welcome to the amazing world of wine. One of the drinks we can go on and on about. Pouring wine is an art in itself. And the way in which you do this largely determines the experience. How do you open a bottle, what temperature is the right one and what about carafing and decanting?

Wine time is a fine time!

Before you open a bottle of wine, it must be at the right temperature. Drinking wine too warm is not recommend-

ed and neither is too cold. The right serving temperature depends on the type of wine: Sparkling: 6-8 °C

Wine cooler & Champagne cooler

LV213007 | LV223005

A crisp white: 8-10 °C

Full body white & Rosé: 10-12 °C

Fruity red: 15-16 °C

Full body red: 16-18 °C

To keep wine chilled outside the refrigerator, you can use a wine cooler.

The right glass

There is more to drinking wine than serving it at the right temperature. The glass also determines what your wine will taste like. According to etiquette, each wine has its own type of glass. Do you have little room in your china cabinet and

arsenal of wine glasses? Then make sure that the glass you choose has the following features:

• the chalice tapers slightly upwards;

• the handle is easy to hold;

• the glass has a firm foot;

• the glass is clean and odor free;

• the glass has a thin edge;

• the glass is colourless.

Choose a smaller glass for white wine than for red wine. Otherwise the aromas will dissipate too quickly.

Finally, never store glasses upside down. The air in the glass cannot escape and can therefore become musty, which affects the wine that will be poured into it.

Carafing and decanting

If the wine is not yet ready to drink, pour it into a wide carafe after opening so it can breathe. This is called carafing and is mainly done with red wines that contain a lot of tannins and with 'closed' wines. You will see that the taste improves enormously.

When you want to separate the sediment from the red wine, you decant it. But how do you do this? Place the bottle in an upright position, pref-

Champagne

For champagne, the rules are slightly different. For the best taste, you serve it at 8 to 10 °C. A night in the refrigerator or half an hour in an ice cooler should suffice.

erably a day in advance, so the sediment can settle. Then pour the wine into a decanter with a narrow neck. Make sure you have enough light so you can see through the bottle. When the sediment reaches the bottle neck, stop pouring.

Pour out

When your wine is at the right temperature, you have chosen your glasses and it has either been carafed or decanted, your wine is ready to be served. Fill the glass no more than a third, so the aromas have enough room to develop. When you stop pouring, twist your wrist slightly to catch the final drops.

Make sure you taste the wine before drinking. You can either do this yourself or ask one of your guests. If the wine, for example, tastes like cork, this will be discovered in time.

If you plan on serving several different wines, follow this order:

• Pour white wines before red wines;

• Pour lighter wines before heavier wines;

• Pour younger wines before older wines;

• Pour sweet wines after dry wines.

Uncorking the bottle is a festive moment. Tilt the bottle slightly and point the cork to a safe place. Keep your thumb on the cork and remove the foil and wire (the thumb on the cork prevents it from suddenly popping). Turn the bottle while holding the cork firmly. Never twist the cork itself. The pressure in the bottle will increase and the cork will rise and pop out.

Then pour the champagne. Use elegant flutes to keep the champagne bubbly.

White rum: 45 ml

Cane sugar: 2 bar spoons

Sparkling water: 30 ml

Lime wedges: 4 pcs

1 mint sprig

Angostura bitters (optional):

2 dashes/drops

Instructions:

• For this cocktail, use a sturdy glass with a solid bottom to muddle in. You need a lot of ice, so also set a full glass with crushed ice aside;

• Put 2 bar spoons of cane sugar and the lime wedges into the glass and muddle them;

• Now take the mint leaves. Before you put them in the glass, hit them in the palm of your hand. You will immediately smell the aroma that is released;

• Put 4 to 5 mint leaves into the glass. Also smear the rim of your glass with mint so that you get extra mint flavour here too. Please note that you do not muddle the mint;

• Now add about 30 to 45 ml of rum (to taste) with a jigger;

• Fill your glass with crushed ice and stir everything together with your bar spoon. Make sure that the limes and mint float nicely and aren’t stuck to the bottom;
