NEWSFLASHNEWS AIR CANADA AND TAM EXTEND PARTNERSHIP AND PASSENGER BENEFITS Air Canada and TAM airlines have extended a partnership which began last year and offer new benefits to their clients. Beginning now, whoever participates in the loyalty program of these two companies can accumulate and redeem points or miles with both of the companies. This initiative is part of an accord signed between the two, in 2008, to enlarge the services offered. In this same manner, members of the Aeroplan program, of the Canadian company, can use their miles on all of TAM’s national and international flights. BENTO’S SPRING HEALTH AND SAFETY BLITZ

s On May 23rd, Bento’s Auto Tire and Centre Ltd. held a charitable event at its new location at 2000 Dundas St. West, Toronto. During the event, members of the Toronto Police Force were on site to teach how to properly install baby car seats. There was also a group from St. John’s Ambulance and the Heart and Stroke Foundation measuring people’s blood pressure. And, to top it

all off, a lavish BBQ was served, free of charge. Proceeds from the event were donated to the local “Breakfast On Us” program. BRAZIL-PORTUGAL FILM SERIES In another cultural promotion, the Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto is organizing a “Brazil-Portugal Film Series”. The initiative is carried out in cooperation with the Consulate of Portugal, York University, University of Toronto and the Camões Institute and its purpose is to present Portuguese language movies to a predominantly university student audience. The Series are based on literary works translated to film by movie directors from Brazil and Portugal. The movies “War of Canudos” and ”Blindness” were presented respectively in March and April. “The Mystery of Sintra” will be presented on September 25th, “Fated Love” on October 29th and “Foreign Land” on November 27th.

The North American premiere of the theatrical play “A arte de escutar” (“The Art of Listening”), by Carla Faour – which was performed for seven months in Rio de Janeiro and was nominated for the Shell and Contigo awards for best text in 2008 will be on at 8:45pm on the 1st of July, at the Robert Gill Theatre, 214 College St., 3rd floor, Toronto. This presentation is a part of the Toronto II CONFERENCE BRAZILIANS IN Fringe Festival, one of the largest theatre THE WORLD festivals in North America and the most important in Canada. The Festival, which takes place from the 1st to the 12th of July, 2009 in Toronto, is a place where new ideas, new actors and known artists can show off their work. The Canadian production of “The Art of Listening” is by Southern Mirrors, a company owned by the Brazilian actress Barbara de la Fuente, whose objective is to promote and publicize projects which transcend The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs cultural barriers, in particular Brazilian ones. informed that preparations for the II Conference of Brazilians in the World
