At the beginning of the 1990s, Government funding for research was reduced and researchers had to resort to other means in order to receive the funding that they needed to pursue their research passions and improve outcomes for patients and their families. Professor Geoff Pilkington was one such eminent researcher with a particular passion to discover cures for brain tumours, having lost his mother to a brain tumour in 1979, eight years into his career.
