LYDIA MOSS BRADLEY An entrepreneur who devoted her life to serving others, Lydia Moss Bradley believed potential should never go to waste. She had little formal schooling while growing up in rural Indiana, but that didn’t stop Lydia from helping her husband, Tobias, build a multilayered business empire. After his untimely death, she increased those means four-fold and continued the couple’s practice of giving back to the Peoria community they loved. The school that would one day become Bradley University was to be a living memorial to her husband and six children, all of whom died before reaching adulthood. (1816-1908)

Peoria is the county seat of Peoria County, Illinois, and the largest city on the Illinois River with a diverse population of nearly 115,000.
