FARAHAT RESTAURANT

Page 1

Brief Farahat restaurant is an Egyptian fine dining restaurant, inspired from the original Farahat restaurant located in the downtown of Cairo, in the deep Egypt, where colors, smells and sounds melt together to show another side of the simple and authentic life of the Egyptian people. Serving mainly traditional Egyptian food, almost the street food, in a modern and artistic style, but copying the same environment in a comfortable atmosphere, with an experienced and highqualified staff, which will make the restaurant experience a very unique one, solicited by a segment of customer fun of the 40s and 50s old Egypt.

Egyptian Food Egyptian cuisine is notably conducive to vegetarian diets, as it relies heavily on legume and vegetable dishes. Though food in Alexandria and the coast of Egypt tends to use a great deal of fish and other seafood, for the most part Egyptian cuisine is based on foods that grow out of the ground. Meat has been very expensive for most Egyptians throughout history, so a great number of vegetarian dishes have been developed. The most common meats featured in Egyptian cuisine are rabbit, pigeon, chicken and duck. These are often boiled to make the broth for various stews and soups. Lamb and beef are the most common meats used for grilling. Grilled meats such as kofta (‫)كفتــة‬, kabab (‫ )كبــاب‬and grilled cutlets are categorically referred to as mashwiyat (‫)مشــويات‬. Offal is very popular in Egypt. Liver sandwiches, a specialty of Alexandria, are a popular fast-food in cities. Chopped-up pieces of liver fried with bell peppers, chili, garlic, cumin and other spices are served in a baguette-like bread called eish fino. Cow and sheep brain are eaten in Egypt.

Street Food Spirit Unlike Lebanon, Syria and Turkey, Egypt does not really have a restaurant culture although it does have an exciting street food scene. It is on the street where Egyptian food at its best could rival the better known Middle Eastern cuisines. Many of the dishes are shared with other countries but because Egypt straddles the Middle East and North Africa, there are noticeable differences. Egyptians have been wheeling their unmotorized wooden food carts for decades, and each vendor takes great pride in their ambulant kitchen-cum-restaurant. they paint it with the prettiest and brightest colours before covering the panels with Arabic writing. There will be (verses) from the Holy Quran or amusing texts advertising their superior talents and/or the excellence of ful medames, ta’miyah (falafel) or even stuffed pigeons.

The Concept It is all about the street, the adventure of exploring the typical old Cairo streets with their vibes full of energy, colours and various activities is what makes anyone likes to visit the same place again. The Variety of retail shops, food shops and food carts becomes one unit with the streets ambient look where it is obvious to everyone in different locations. The idea of FARAHAT is to match the same atmosphere and look of such streets and moving a piece of Cairo to your place where you can experience the good quality of food combined with the aesthetic and authentic design and makes your visit memorable and joyful.
