Meet our newest college graduate! We are bursting with pride and happiness for Jason, who graduated in December with a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics! He worked hard and persevered through many obstacles. We know that the sky is the limit for this determined young man.

Jason joined our family in 1993, when he was 12 years old. He loves animals and he loved living on the ranch. In 2001, we cheered for him as he graduated from high school, and last month, we were there as he walked across the stage for his diploma from Texas Tech University!

More Highlights from 2011 Thank you for making our 40th year one for the record books! In April, we completed our Growing for the Future capital campaign, and the campus improvements – including our playgrounds! – that were made possible by this campaign have given our children a place to learn and play…with room to grow. In May, our kids set a new record for the campus average GPA – a 3.3...Wow!

Message from the Executive Director As we turned the calendar page from 2011 to 2012, I felt as if our 40th year was as exciting as that first year must have been. In each case we celebrated an important benchmark and the many accomplishments of our children and young adults. The mission from 40 years ago is the same as the mission today, providing a “Christian home environment [and] raising [our children] to become self-sustaining and contributing adults.” “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11) At least twice each year and sometimes three times a year, we meet with each of our kids and their families for a “Plan of Service,” and we review “the plans for good….to give you a future and a hope.” We start every Plan of Service meeting with our kids by reading this scripture. We then discuss how it relates to each child and each family. Very often the children’s families are present at the meeting, either in person or via conference call. We had 286 of those meetings in 2011 and read those lines 286 times. That’s a lot of meetings and we all work hard to make them the priority in our schedules. I always wish those who support us could sit in on these plans. It’s here that each of our children gets to reflect upon their progress and each parent gets to report on the progress they have seen in their child. We briefly celebrate that progress then make our new plans for the future. These goals eventually turn into a “Roadmap” for our children as they prepare to graduate from high school, and the Roadmap leads them from the room they are sitting in to the place they want to be 10 years from now. Goals are set. Benchmarks are measured. Next steps are initiated and the final plan is written down and signed by all in attendance. These plans truly bring “a future and a hope.” In 1993, we started such plans with 12-year-old Jason. He quickly showed an appreciation for animals and the ranch. He graduated from Waller High School in the class of 2001 and began his Roadmap. One of the important, unique parts of Boys and Girls Country is that we, like parents, see high school graduation as a beginning, not an ending. Most residential programs for kids end with high school graduation. Not at Boys and Girls Country! After completing high school, Jason continued to work with his Boys and Girls Country family to make progress. He received a technical degree in Agribusiness, had an entry level job in Abilene and even worked on our ranch for a while. He eventually returned to our Jason and Mr. Quintes, who remembers College and Career Program on the 2920 Campus and in 2009 he Jason's first day at Boys and Girls Country transferred from community college to Texas Tech University. Last and has mentored him ever since. You’re invited to take a tour of our Home and learn more about the children we serve and how your support helps us to raise them. Bring only an open heart and a friend. We’d like to host at least ten people at each of our upcoming sessions*:

month, Jason earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics, and we’re not done yet! We will continue to be Jason’s family and support system through his job search and for as long as he desires. Just like you would do in your family. That’s what Mr. Tommy and Ms. Jean Robinson had in mind 40 years ago. Your support makes that happen. Just as Ms. Jean frequently reminds me “Lou, remember that it all started with a $25 donation, no contribution is too small and no effort to help is too little.” “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” This year, we will continue to stand upon this promise for each one of our children, and we thank you for helping us care for our kids.

Lou Palma Executive Director
