BOX HILL SCHOOL’S HISTORY

We are a founder school in the Round Square network. We follow the educational philosophy of Dr Kurt Hahn, the founder of Gordonstoun School in Scotland. Inside our classrooms, and beyond, students are immersed in opportunities that focus on our IDEALS:

Box Hill School was founded in 1959 by Mr Roy McComish, our first Headmaster and a contemporary of Kurt Hahn.

Since then, we have continued his holistic approach to education, to encourage individual strength and character. This allows our pupils to grow into confident, well-balanced young people, ready to take on the next steps in life.

Being a Round Square School is always varied and exciting, and we were a proud host to Round Square’s Conference 2022 which had a theme of ‘Take Less: Be More’. This was an incredible experience for all of our school.

Our vision is to create truly global citizens. As an international school, all our students have the chance to discover and embrace different cultures and nationalities on a daily basis. In addition, pupils can enjoy cultural immersion opportunities through day and residential trips and overseas expeditions.

ON CAMPUS

Today, our impressive 40 acre campus is exceptionally well equipped with a purpose built Music School, new Sports Centre with extensive outdoor pitches, specialist studios for Dance and Drama as well as a high ropes course, indoor climbing wall and an exciting Sixth Form building.

PASTORAL CARE & SUPPORT

Excellent pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do and our commitment to the wellbeing of students is of paramount importance.

Each student is assigned a Tutor in addition to their House Parent who will nurture pupils and offer support, guidance and encouragement. In addition, in Sixth Form pupils have a Sixth Form team to provide a clear focus on their academic supervision and monitoring. We are incredibly proud of our high standards of pastoral care.

TESTIMONIAL

In our experience, African students that we’ve had before, bring skills which are well suited to Box Hill School. The school is able to empower these students and immerse them in the English education system to prepare them for their university life.

“This school is supportive. Being the Head Girl, I see how much the management is invested in supporting all genders, races; everyone. It’s so nice to know there are people rooting for you.”

Chi, Student from Rivers State, Nigeria
