California Business Trip A group of business studies students enjoyed a sensational 10 day tour of the west coast of America during February half term with Miss Treacy (trip leader), Mr Gardner and Mr Mainiero. San Francisco offered many highlights, a definite being Alcatraz, one of the most famous prisons in the USA for housing notorious criminals. Students met William Baker, a former prisoner of Alcatraz, who was doing a book signing on the day. The tour of San Francisco offered stunning views and incredible photo opportunities of Union Square, the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf. Students enjoyed an educational visit to the Tech Museum of Innovation, the Intel Museum and Stanford University. Silicon Valley provided students with an insight into innovation and development which accounts for one-

third of all of the venture capital investment in the USA. The group enjoyed a ride on the world’s last manually operated cable car capturing the sights of San Francisco. A visit to a national historic landmark, Hoover Dam, provided amazing views of the highest concrete dam in the western hemisphere, standing at more than 725 feet above the Colorado River.

A visit to Yosemite National Park provided students with beautiful views of Yosemite Falls and Mirror Lake.
Las Vegas was hugely entertaining and students enjoyed the shows, street experiences and a meal at the Hard Rock Café. Another awe-inspiring sight was the Grand Canyon National
Park. This geological wonder, carved over billions of years, provided students with breathtaking photo opportunities. Calico Ghost Town allowed students to step back in time at the restored mining town, experiencing how people lived during the gold rush days and watch a reenacted battle. The last stop was LA where students strolled through the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and enjoyed the thrill and excitement of Universal Studios. On the final night students enjoyed a surprise NBA basketball game at the Staple Centre where the LA Lakers took on the Houston Rockets. A magnificent trip enjoyed by all!
