Far-right Western Slope candidate pulls off primary upset

Lauren Boebert, a conservative owner of Shooter’s Grill in Rifle, “famous for its armed waitresses,” upset five-term Congressman Scott Tipton in the June 30 primary.
The congressional district is Trump country, and so it’s possible Boebert (seen here, with a gun) will defeat Democratic challenger Diane Mitsch Bush, who failed to defeat Tipton in 2018.

According to several media reports, Boebert has spoken in support of QAnon, a conspiracy theory that posits Robert Mueller was tasked not to investigate Trump, but Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and others, who are all wearing ankle monitors. Boebert is “pro-freedom,” “pro-constitution” and, of course, “pro-gun.” A prominent quote about her family on her campaign website reads: “We’re raising our boys to be men. Their success will come from faith, respect and hard work, not from entitlement, safe spaces or government dependency.”
