ith the number of Australian’s shopping online tipping more than 50% for the first time (Roy Morgan research June 2013), now more than ever is the time for businesses to continue to focus on growing their online businesses and consumers to get excited about the savings in both time and dollars that the internet brings. As our article in this issue, “ Small Business – Online Shopping “ shows, with the average weekly sale now at $285 per person, our reliance on internet shopping is growing and will only continue to do so. With that in mind, I would like to invite you to grab a coffee and sit down to browse through the bargains and special offers that our online advertisers have put forward for you, our Born Organized Readers, to aid you in your Christmas Shopping experience. You can calm yourself on Christmas Day with a Tranquillity for People (there is one for Pet’s too)Flower Essence Spray from Sacred Space Essentials (a personal fav of mine) or book in that Family Portrait from Captured by Angela Elliott (Angela took all of our Born Social snaps too). Take it from me, you want to capture these family moments whilst you can. Our children grow way too quickly (says she with her Son off to Schoolies in a few days)! Pass the Tranquillity Spray again!

Speaking of my Son, here we are pictured with The Fainga’a Twins and Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith, V.C, M.G., Australia’s most decorated Soldier. What an honour to share this experience with my Son. My ethos is to teach him how important ‘experiences’ are over ‘things.’ I hope that this Christmas you build fantastic memories and experiences with those you love the most.

From our Born Organized Team, Jordan & I.. Thank you for your fabulous support in 2013. Merry Christmas and Happy 2014!

tree to make it more attractive.

Every year during Christmas we decorate our Christmas tree with ornaments that we buy from store also with some really special ones that we make at home. The home made ornaments are basically made of our children’s photographs and brings back the lost memories each time we look at them. This not only makes our Christmas tree unique but gives it a personal touch and a door way to the lost happy days. If you would like to decorate your Christmas tree with

One of my favorite Christmas ornaments that are made from photo are the felt bells that my son made me during his first year in Mother’s Day Out. His teacher skillfully cut a blue felt in the shame of a bell about three inches tall. A smaller while bell was also cut but this one has a small hole in the middle for the photo. The photo is attached to this while felt so as it shows through the hole. Once this is done you simply need to glue the white bell on top of the blue one. This will give the white bell a blue border all around. You can use a glitter glue pen to outline the edges of

oto Ornaments photograph ornaments like we do here are some easy craft idea that you may pick up. The first holiday craft idea about the Christmas tree can even be done by a preschooler so you do not need to worry whether you have the necessary skill to pull it off. Take a 1/8 inch green sponge board and cut a three inch tree template. Now all you need to do is decorate this green tree ornament. You can make some brightly colored dots, even better if you allow your preschooler child to help you out. Once you are done coloring, cut a 1/2 inch hole towards the bottom of this green tree. Once done simply tape your photo or your children’s photo on the back of the tree so that it shows through the hole. You can add a red curling ribbon loop to the top of the

the white felt. Remember to punch a hole in the top of the bell and thread a blue ribbon to make a loop to hang the bell. Once this is done to complete the bell you will need to cut and blue a blue poster the same size and shape as the blue bell. Gluing it to the bell will actually stiffen the ornament. You can also attach a small jingle bell to the bottom of the ornament. The one my son had contained his name and year on the back, you can write yours.

Helpful Company Holiday Christmas Party Etiquette by Sarah Porter

Read About the Dos and Don’ts for Business Christmas Holiday Party Etiquette Common and frequent etiquette mistakes at a company holiday Christmas party are very likely to be silage for the upcoming days and most surely be discussions for future business parties. One of the more common of these miscues includes excessive celebrating. According to many surveys, these inexcusable business Christmas party etiquette violations occur in about 15% of those situations with a hosted corporate holiday party. And, these can definitely, and usually do, have an impact on the violator’s career growth within the company. Here are some of the more common mistakes made by employees at holiday company Christmas parties, which should be must reading for all those attending such a function. Excess Consumption of Alcohol Drinking Excessively Perhaps, one of the most common mistake made at these type holiday company parties include a situation with lots of well-dressed men and women, all, or most, with drinks in their hands, all laughing, a drink is spilled, yet one of the guests simply continues laughing. All too often this occurs, and usually without the offender even realizing he has misbehaved or acted in an unprofessional manner. With

this being such a common practice, many companies are curtaining the use of alcohol that is served at these events. However, the guests cannot or should not rely on the company to ensure they act professionally during the celebration. Here are some drinking tips for your Christmas holiday party celebration: * Limit your consumption to, say, two drinks * Never mix the type drinks you are drinking * It is better to drink soft drinks, coffee, water, or tea Gorging Yourself with the Food, Eating Excessively, and Exhibiting Bad Table Manners All those attending a corporate Christmas holiday party celebration usually know that beverages and food, of some sort, will be served at the event. With this knowledge, all the party guests should be considerate of how the other guests will approach them, and, in particular, exercising good etiquette like ensure your hands are clean, and, certainly, avoid talking or laughing with your mouth full. After all, the last thing you want to happen is your hands have greasy food, you mouth full, and an important person, like your boss, walks up to greet you with a handshake. Wow, talk about a bad situation. What do you do? Here’s a few helpful hints to keep in mind:

* Avoid walking around with numerous hors d’oeuvres * Never return buffet food, and certain stay away from any double dipping * Make sure you discard your napkins, toothpicks, and so on properly Talking Too Loud or Excessively - Don’t be Heard Above the Crowd

At parties and gatherings like these, most of the guests will tend to gravitate and spend time with their own colleagues and direct managers. But, during various times of the evening, you should speak socially with as many people as possible. But, in order to do this, you will likely need to limit your time with any one person or group. Generally, most executives will attempt to speak to as many of the employees as possible, including you, so you will certainly want to avoid appearing bored with this executive or any of the others in attendance. To help you with this goal, here are some suggestions: * Keep your conversations light and avoid lengthily, in-depth discussions about anything * Attempt to limit each conversation to five minutes

10

* Avoid any complaining (see below for more about this), especially if it is excessive * By all means, be sure and Thank your party hosts and / or organizers Inappropriate and Unkind Comments Along With Excessive Complaining Since it is a gala event and most guests will want to share their time with lots of the others in attendance, you should keep each conversation brief. This is the time for celebrating the successes of both the employees and company for the year. It’s meant to be the biggest time of the year for a cheerful and mood. It is not unusual for conversations to be heard by others who are standing nearby, and it is quite common for those people to add their own spin to the story. An inappropriate comment can easily and quickly be taken out of context and rapidly become included in the rumor mill with your name attached to it. Consider these suggestions for engaging in your conversations: * Try and stick to save and generic topics to discuss * Compliment your managers and colleagues * If someone else begins an inappropriate, unkind, or complaining, change the subject Read articles about your professional and customized business Christmas holiday party invitations and company holiday Christmas invitation wording at InviationsByU.com written by Sarah Porter.

More than 50 percent of Australians shop online Roy Morgan research by Amy Bainbridge www.ab

The number of Australians who shop online has tipped over the 50 percent mark for the first time. Roy Morgan Research has today released its State of the Nation report, which examines the social trends of 50,000 consumers over the past decade. The report has a special focus on online retail and points to a 12 per cent growth in the sector in the past year. It found that in the last three months, some 50.3 per cent of Australians had shoppe online. The most popular online purchases were in leisure and travel, which made up 45 per cent of online purchases, followed by fashion, at 23.4 per cent.

Key points: • Over 50 per cent of Australians shopped online in past 3 months • Research points to 12 per cent growth in retail sector • Leisure and travel made up 45 per cent of purchases • Fashion made up 23.4 per cent of purchases • Weekly online expenditure is $285 per person

Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show $258 billion being spent on retail, with Roy Morgan estimating 9 per cent of that being spent online. The average weekly online expenditure was $285 per person. Roy Morgan Research chief executive officer Michele Levine says online shopping is becoming increasingly mainstream. She says there is a role for traditional retailers to exist alongside online shopping, but that the retail sector will need to adjust. “Those retailers who can play in both spaces will probably do extremely well, so I think yes, there will be a very happy situation, she said. “I think the challenge for Australia is that this will change the face of the workforce, because what you’ll find is it’s not just the retail er as such, it’s the people who work in the shops. “You won’t need so many people working in shops.”

Smartphone shopping grows 101 per cent in past year Ms Levine says smartphone shopping is growing rapidly. “Smartphone penetration is now running at about 50 per cent of Australians, so it’s well on the way, and what I think smartphones have done is they’ve actually really given a big lift to people’s use of the internet,” she said. “What the smartphone does is it means they don’t have to go home, they can do all of those things wherever they are, any time they like. “What we’re seeing is people are using them to check prices, explore the availability of goods and doing research.” Ms Levine says the use of smartphones to make online purchases has grown 101 per cent in the past year. “There’s about 6.6 per cent of people with smartphones who have actually bought something online recently, but it will grow, it’s 24/7 to be able to do this stuff online, and very different to having to go to a shop that is only open particular hours,” she said. The research also looked at other indicators of consumer behaviour. It found the number of people eating out has trended down slighly, but the number of people visiting cafes to drink coffee andtea is trending up. It found fewer people are gambling and points to trends in media consumption, with more people accessing media online. It also says 60 per cent of people use the internet more than once a day.

AWARD WINNING AUTHOR

Erotica Author

Melissa is part of a worldwide author network reaching over two million followers on twitter at present and growing every day. Her blog is recognized worldwide that has subsequently lead to opportunities judging in writing competitions in America. Her erotica works have gained recognition through awards here in Australia against New York Best Seller Sylvia Day in the 2012 Romance Readers Awards in the Erotic Romance category with media resulting in the Sunday Mail newspaper article “Erotica Steams Ahead” and various interviews on radio shows in Sydney and TV shows in the UK. Now we at Born Organized Magazine have the pleasure of gaining Melissa’s insight as a columnist, in between writing about men’s hard bodies. It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it. Enjoy it any way you can!

Re-ignite that flame! As an erotica author, I spend a lot of time reading sex-life books, surveys, articles about sexual desires and expectations from men and women, as it helps with character building. One of the things I have learned from all this reading is the importance of keeping that spark alive in a relationship. No. That’s not it. It’s about how to make time to keep the fire burning. Anyone who has been in a long-term relationship knows there is a time when the fun things seem to stop: the spontaneous trips away, the nights out for dinner as a couple, the sexy talk, texts, or even letting our imaginations run wild and perhaps acting out that role of the sexy stripper — you know what I’m talking about. Nothing is more empowering than slipping your foot into a stocking and rolling it up to connect with the suspender belt. Mmm, matching lingerie, high heels, and don’t forget to cover it all up with the easy-to-whip-off clothes.

22

Hang on. I know you anymore, I would rath a night of intimacy. W stresses, responsibilitie own needs on standby the first thing to go. T ‘to do list’ seems to be we want to add hanky day, right?

Oi, you shouldn’t be a putting an end to tha sexuality, and deserve it was like when you fi that tingled throughou partner, or the momen waist and pulled you in

u’re all thinking, well I don’t have time her choose an extra hour of sleep than We’re all so caught up with the everyday es, and commitments that we put our y. Unfortunately, the sex-drive is normally The daily stresses are taking a toll and the e getting longer and longer. Why would y panky to the task list after an exhausting

agreeing. You should be thinking about at dry spell and taking control of your to escape from reality. Remember what first started dating? The nervous flutters ut your body the moment you saw your nt ‘the one’s’ hand snaked around your n for that first passionate kiss.

See, you do. Give something back to yourself; re-kindle that flame. I know it’s easier said than done, but the time has come. You need to stop and smell the roses. You need a time out, away from the kids, work stresses, household chores. It’s time for pampering. Run a bubble bath, sit back and read a book. May I suggest reading some erotica that will titillate your tastebuds … or even doing something simple like painting your toenails? When was the last time you treated your feet to a pedicure? It’s time to make yourself feel like a confident woman of the world, and re-invent that person your partner fell in love with. Stop thinking you don’t have time to sit back and relax or watch a sunset with a glass of champagne. Make time — it’s important and the first step to taking the stress out of your relationship. Shave your legs; get a wax, or whatever makes you feel sexy. Ignite the flame that has been snuffed out.

Sex is an important part of life, and we shouldn’t be afraid to talk about it with our partner. No judgement is needed when expressing your feelings or listening to one another. You never know, you may both like or want the same thing. Bring the element of surprise back into the relationship; catch your partner off guard. Even better, start setting a regular date night once a week and stick to it. If you were courting, you would be spending time together. Once in a while, I think it’s also important to get away from the house, the phone, the kids, people turning up on your doorstep unannounced. Book a hotel room for a night. Run the bubble bath, have the champagne sitting in the ice bucket. Put on the music and those easy-to-slip-off clothes and actually escape from reality for a few hours. No interruptions, and no one except the both of you. Time to explore one another and let the temperature skyrocket to HOT! P.S. Remember to put the do not disturb sign on the door, as you don’t want to be interrupted by the pull down service (no pun intended). Don’t think of it as embarrassing; who cares if people know you’re doing the deed? Embrace the fact that you and your partner are giving each other the full attention you both deserve. Enjoy it any way you can! Ohhh gosh.... I just noticed it’s only 8 weeks until the 1st day of Spring! So whoosh!.....another Winter zooms by and before you know it another wonderful Australian Summer is here.....and then..... oh yes‌what about your

Summer body?

We absolutely love those light, filmy and gorgeous summer tops, adorable “must-have” dresses, short shorts and fabulous swim wear BUT they show off everything we don’t want them to! That’s why NOW is the time to get the shape you want.....beautiful breasts and firm flat tummy. There is no time like NOW to be ready for Summer in the best shape you can be - then you don’t have to agonise over what to put on to disguise those small breasts, cover up that bulgy jelly belly, push up those saggy breasts or squash down those huge breasts. Australian summers are all about “Fun and Freedom” and how wonderful to enjoy the freedom of wearing whatever you want completely confident in knowing those embarrassing bulges, huge breasts, saggy breasts and flat chest are not part of you anymore. Imagine how much lighter it will feel to enjoy all the fun that Summer brings with no more worry or embarrassment about your body.

Summer fashions and lifestyle are all about allowing our most feminine selves to shine. No matter what anyone says I strongly believe that breasts really are the essence of our femininity. Breast Augmentation surgery is a day procedure, performed under general anaesthetic. Healing takes around 6 weeks however most people can return to their usual work and activities within 2 weeks, some women are back at work after only a few days.

30

Their boost in confidence is amazing to witness. We often see full transformations as confidence is restored, new hairstyles, new clothes, new jobs and even new houses and cars! It’s astounding how making one significant change to increase confidence then leads to much, much more life enjoyment. It’s all about living in the present and making the most of NOW.

Breast Enhancement surgery Of course

is not just about Breast Implants. Breast Uplifts are common and make a huge difference to femininity after pregnancies have left behind empty sagginess, often just folds of skin. Sometimes Breast Uplift is combined with Breast Implants to give lovely full and perky high breasts again.

Then there are those suffering from overly huge breasts. Neckache, shoulder and back pain often make life miserable and femininity is lost in the struggle to hide very large breasts, to find clothes which are flattering and even maintaining a good upright posture is a daily challenge. Breast Reduction surgery is not so well known and many suffer unnecessarily not knowing that there is a way to eliminate all those problems arising from huge breasts.

At Medici, Mr Tom Robbins is our Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon, and Mr Robbins was the original founder and creator of the Breast Reduction technique which is used today by over 60% of surgeons around the world. Many times more than 500gms (sometimes over 1kg) are removed from EACH breast. The cost is certainly not prohibitive, the lightness of being after having a significant weight literally lifted from your shoulders, plus the fact that healing is quite fast over 6 weeks or so, makes Breast Reduction surgery one of the most worthwhile surgeries we do. And let me say that once that weight is gone and the shape is restored, it is like walking on air‌..connecting with your feminine essence in a whole new way. If you would like to reconnect with your femininity again with Breast Enhancement surgery then don’t wait for another Summer to come and go. Act now! What does my

shape say about Me?

By Matt Legge ND

It is relatively well known that hormone ratios and genetics can determine your bodyshape. You may know someone who has suddenly changed shape as they have been diagnosed with a thyroid problem or been put on a new medication which has given them a moon face. You may have even experienced this yourself by using a new oral contraceptive pill and growing a second more curvaceous bottom. You may have also noticed that hormonal changes don’t just change your shape but will influence your entire body at the same time. Hormones will change your mood and behaviour and create signs and symptoms systemically. Hormones are a fascinating science; the ability to just look at where someone will hold fat when they gain weight and you can get an insight into their personality

Entreprenurial Aussie Mum Kicks Goals Three and a half years ago Townsville mum, Angelene Bourne created Angelfish Dragonfly – www.angelfishdragonfly.com.au, a premium ‘clicks and mortar’ store catering for premmie babies to ten year olds after many people kept stopping her in the street and saying “Now you didn’t get that beautiful garment here did you?” She was buying her baby daughter’s garments from boutiques in Melbourne on visits to family. So she saw a need for these premium products to be stocked locally. Ms Bourne opened her ‘shop’ in the peak of the Global Financial Crisis and has watched the online business thrive in one of the world’s most competitive markets. “It has been a labour of love and hard work that have built up the business to where it is today, the premier Townsville store that is also known Australia wide and with many customers worldwide as well”, she commented. Ms Bourne acknowledges there are plenty of players in the sandpit but has built herself a sizeable moat. “Large retailers often underestimate the little guy but they’re competing with mums like me who know exactly what mums want. It’s about providing convenience, the right mix of products, excellent customer service and a seamless shopping experience. It also makes me so pleased to get such amazingly positive feedback at local boutique markets where we have a ‘pop-up shop’ ”, she said.

Icing: 2 cups icing sugar 4 tbs cocoa (you can adjust the quantity as to your taste: more for richer chocolate and less for milder choc taste) 1 tbs butter softened. 2 tbs milk Cachous or other sprinkles for decoration.

oday I asked Mum my if we could make chocolate cupcakes. Not the rich ones in the packet but nice milk chocolate ones. I had so much fun and the best part was licking the spoon and eating them! Mummy let me try piping the icing but it was very tricky and I couldn’t do it. So Mummy helped me.

will make 36 approx.

2. Cube butter. Beat the butter and sugar unti creamed with an electric mixer. No sugar granules remaining or very little.

3. Add the eggs one at a time and combine well. 4. Add the vanilla and mix in. 5. Sift flour and cocoa powder in an open sieve onto paper.

(Makes it easier to add to the mixture).

6. Add flour and milk alternately, folding in by hand (or lowest speed on mixer) until all combined. If the mixture is not wet enough, add a little more milk.

7. Take a desert spoon or a round ice-cream scoop to get even mixture in every serve and spoon mixture into papers. Tip – spoon it so there is a mound of mixture in one go and the cake will rise nicely.

8. Bake in a moderate oven for approx. 15 mins. HINT: turn your fan forced feature off or turn to BAKE setting and the cakes will rise evenly.

9. Cool completely on a wire rack before icing. 10. Icing the cakes: I used a Multix piping bag with a star nozzle (found in the Freezer bag and plastic wrap section of the supermarket). First time I ever used these and found them much less mess than the piping bags you keep! Just throw away the bag when you are finished and keep the nozzle. These cakes pictured are the ones we did and wanted to show anyone can do it.

11. Simply mix together all ingredients to a firm paste. It must be firm or the icing won’t hold its shape. 12. Place mixture into a piping bag (trim corner end off bag and insert nozzle) by folding the bag back and holding the bag in one hand for support and filling with icing from the other hand.

13. Twist the open end of the bag down until the mixture starts to come out the nozzle. 14. Pipe in a circular motion or whatever patter you choose (making sure to apply even pressure on the bag as you pipe). 15.Decorate with sprinkles or cachous as you desire. Bon appĂŠtit!

50

Note: because the icing mixture has butter and cream, it would be ideal to store in the fridge if you are in a hot climate. Cupcakes can be frozen for lunches too.

Organize Your Wardrobe

Kim Clark vanchic.com

54

Wish you had Victoria Beckham’s closet but cant afford it? Lusting after Carrie Bradshaw’s shoe collection? I’m here to give you hope! All my tips are centered around the concept of presenting your home with the highest luxury quality... without paying hefty price tags!

Step 1: Search the wardrobe you already have and edit through everything. Take inventory. If somebody asked me right now how many orange shirts I owned, I’d quickly say “3!” Know what you have and be responsible for the money you spend on your duds. Evaluate what outfits don’t fit you, items neglected and staple missing wardrobe essentials. Ditch all your old, worn, tired and ugly pieces. The purging process feels so damn good.

Step 2: Simple means chic. Notice in a celebrity’s house there is balance or symmetry in every room and less than 6 material items on every counter top. Shed the visual clutter.

Step 3: Mirrors make a closet look bigger...get lots of them. Think of a theme or focal point for your space. Don’t have it be an area with just clothes — add decor that ties in with your personal style.

Step 4: Stop using cheap storage supplies, plastic bins and crappy wire hangers. Put all your clothes on matching hangers because it will let small closet spaces appear linear and unified. You should be able to move around hangers on your closet rod. If they are jam packed, you will never fully see what you own.

Step 5: Take everything up off the floor. Rich people never line their shoes or junk on the ground. Piles on the floor add bulk, shortens the height (of an already small closet) and stubs the foundation square footage. You want your closet items beautifully on display; a closet is prime real estate space! Think tall; ceiling storage, ceiling hanging toy hammocks, corner shelving, wall curios, carousels, pull down swing rods...

Step 6: Color coordinate and categorize. Put ‘like with like’ and ‘type with type’. That means all socks in one drawer, all jeans on one shelf, every dress in one solitary section. Coordinate your clothes from light to dark or rainbow order. You will soon discover it is easier to mix and match outfits by properly spotting color options.

Step 7: Remove all paper work, knick-knacks, memory boxes, storage bins, cluttered pictures, suitcases and all other “stuff” from your closet. You wouldn’t store your yoga mat in the refrigerator, right?

Step 8: Redefine your style identity. That means put all the comfy clothes in hard to reach places. Most Women have their uggies, slippers, sweat pants and t-shirts at the forefront of their closets and drawers. Hide those slumpy items; we ladies

56

should desire to use the full value of our nicer things. It’s a lot more exciting to style an outfit and put effort into your image.

GROWING NEEDS Newsflash!

Just because you have a kid-friendly home, doesn’t mean it can’t be an elegant, well styled one.

When I first started interior designing, I didn’t have kids and I have to confess, I really didn’t appreciate the kid factor. So when one of my very first clients (a family of five) briefed me on their design absolutes ranging from having nothing out on display, no glass whatsoever, all sofa & chair covers to be removable & washable and so on, my instant reaction was “how am I ever going to make this place look even vaguely stylish?!” It turned out to be invaluable experience and fast-track several years I now have 3 little ones of my own and can fully appreciate that designing with kids in mind takes extra careful planning for durability and function whilst not compromising on overall style… and the best news… all that can be achieved without defaulting to bright plastic furniture!

Tame the ‘Busy’ - Create More Balance I know a lot of Mums would say their to-do list is never ending and that ‘busy’ seems to describe their entire life (well, at least from the moment they had their first child anyway!). The thing about ‘busy’ is this – what one Mum can fit into her day is often very different to another. So is it really possible to steady the scales, to ‘calm the busy’ and live a more balanced life? Absolutely! I believe that if we looked at ‘busy’ in a different way, and put some structure around it so that we have strategies to get through our never-ending to-do list, we’d all live a more balanced life. What busy Mum doesn’t want that?! Why not look at ‘busy’ like this? B = Balanced Create balance in your time, your family, your work, yourself. Strive for a balance that supports and encourages you to reach your goals. U = Uncluttered Why add to your already overwhelming to-do list when keeping an organised space would actually give you more time? S = Sustainable Learn organising strategies that work for you, are easy to maintain and stand the test of time. It’s a guaranteed way to reduce your busy-ness. Y = You Put yourself first. You will find you have more balance and time – because you’ll fill your own tank and have energy to give to others. So what now? How do you move forward with this new definition of BUSY? With the Eight Traits of an Organised Mum of course!

Trait #1: Balance Work and Home

Our energies usually go where we decide to put them. If I decide to get fit I will put the energy there to reach my goals; if I decide to take up cross-stitch I’ll put in the time to learn. So when it comes to balancing work and home, you need to make a conscious decision to work on it. Because it you do you’re more likely to succeed.

Trait #2: Getting Things Done

Trait #6: Helpful Kids

Most busy Mums have a to-do list longer than both arms combined! There is always something that needs doing – so how do you get it all done without going crazy?

I firmly believe that if we want children to grow up and move out we need to teach them to be organised. Have expectations that your children will help around the home – the earlier you start the better!

1.Focus on what’s important – today, in this moment. Remove things from your schedule that you don’t like doing. 2.Enlist help. Whether that’s your partner, children, cleaning lady, neighbour or parents, enlisting help will help you get things done. 3.Avoid perfectionism – I want you to live an abundant life where you are happy and have time to do things that are important to you. Let the perfectionism go.

Trait #3: Organised In your Space. With your Time. And with that you’re likely to feel more centred, more organised, more balanced in your mind as well.

Trait #4: On Time There are three concepts to consider here: 1.Being on time shows you respect and care about other people’s time as much as your own. 2.Have a planner that works for you. 3.Learning a few time management skills will make a real difference.

Trait #5: Right Tools for the Job When it comes to organising your space and time there are a few essential organising tools you need, including: 1.A tape measure 2.Rubbish bags 3.Something to make labels with 4.A ladder 5.An open mind Please don’t rush to the shop to buy product before you start organising. Go part way through your organising project and as you go work out if you need to buy anything – you may not need to in the end!

70

Trait #7: Time for Family and Relationships Learn to focus on what’s important to you. Have activities, people and responsibilities in your life that you love – and remove everything else. It will give you more energy and motivation to focus on what you love.

Trait #8: “Me” Time With 168 hours every week, I’m hoping you can find two or three hours each week to do something that you love! Whether that’s dancing, reading, crocheting, sky diving, volunteering, I’d love you to find the time. It will still leave 165 hours to do everything else you need to! I know that if you make the decision to focus on our new definition of BUSY, put in the time and energy to focus on the Traits of an Organised Mum, that you’ll be well on your way to creating more balance in your life. 10 Tips To Organize Your Home Office by Danielle Cameron

Danielle Cameron Executive PA to Paula Kuhnemann /Self accredited Office Organizer Why??? I m not sure if it s because I am a serious control freak or just because I am spectacular at it! Systems are second nature to me and I love ORDER. My life as a Working Mother of two also preempted my need to be organized and my days to be structured - I guess the rest just followed. Having worked in Hospitality Management and as the Chairman of a Junior Rugby Club as well as playing Supermum and Chauffeur to my active offspring and their friends, I quickly discovered systems are a must. Chaos prevails if there is no order. I realize that it’s not for everyone - but someone has to do it! If I can organize PK and her Office, I can do anything!

Without the structure of an office outside of our homes, it is easy to scatter anything work related all over the house. We still need to complete our work in a timely and efficient manner. After all, the less time we spend working, the more time we have with our family. An organized home office will make for a faster and more pleasant workday. Here are a few ideas to get you and your home office organized. 1) Do you have a home office? You don t necessarily need an entire room, but you should have a well-defined space to contain all your office essentials and files. A desk in your bedroom that will hold your files, paper, pens, calculator and of course computer will do fine, especially in the beginning. If your office consists of the dining room table, some of the drawers in your kitchen, a file cabinet in the basement and the computer in the bedroom, you may want to think about organizing everything in one spot. Are you spending a lot of time searching for a particular document, running from room to room to find it? Consider moving all your files and papers to one central location, preferably close to the computer if that is where you are doing the bulk of your work. 2) Keep your personal files and papers separate from your business things. You will eventually have enough paperwork to deal with without having your personal bills, magazines and the kids after-school schedule mixed in there. Create a separate spot for those somewhere outside of your home office space. 3) Create a file system that works for

72

you. Remember, you may be working for someone else, but when it comes to your home office, you are your own boss. Think about how you look for a particular file or piece of paper. What will be the easiest way for you to find it? Then create a file system that works for you. Don t worry, if you don t get it right the first time, you can always re-sort and try again. Sooner or later you will come up with a system that is just right or you. 4) Take a good look at your work area. Do you have piles of papers, files, mail, floppy discs and CDs lying around? Do you notice anything else piling up? Set aside a few hours and put everything away. Use your new file system and find homes for anything else.

5) Now that you have your office organized, set aside a few minutes at the end of your workday to keep it that way. Try to leave work for the day with a clean, empty desk. You will appreciate it the next morning. This will also prevent you from ever coming across a huge pile of papers again. 6) Add a personal touch to your office. Bring in some pictures of the kids; add some pretty plants, inspirational quotes, or anything else that you can think of that will make your office a pleasant place to work in. In addition to getting and keeping you in a good mood

whenever you step into your office, you are more likely to keep it clean and organized if it is a place you treasure. So splurge a little on some special office dĂ˜cor. 7) Let s talk about the files on your computer. You can waste just as much time searching for an online document as for a piece of paper. If your computer is used for work as well as for personal use, create a work folder and use subfolders for particu-

lar employers, projects etc. Again, come up with a file system that works for you and keep your work files separate from your personal files. This is particularly important if other family members access the computer as well. If that is the case, and you are using Windows XP, I strongly recommend setting up a separate user account just for work and password protecting it. This will prevent other family members from accidentally changing or deleting your work files. 8) In addition to your regular files, you also want to keep your emails organized. Let s be honest, we have all wasted time searching for a particular email that contained some vital information that we

needed fast. Setting up folders for different clients and projects has worked well for me, but again find a system that works for you and stick with it. Sort the email as soon as you read it. It only takes a second or two to drop it in the appropriate folder, but will save you a lot of time if you have to find it later. Consider your email program’s ‘symbol’ system to mark high priority emails. 9) Now that you have a good filing system (both physical and digital) in place, set aside a little time every few months (or weeks if appropriate) to purge your files. We can quickly accumulate a lot of documents both in our file cabinet and on our hard drive (especially images here) that we no longer need. At the very least, try to purge your files twice a year. 10) Now that your office is organized, you may also want to take a look at organizing your time. Again, come up with a system that works well for you. I encourage you to start with a few of these ideas to get your office and yourself more organized. You will be surprised by how much time you will save not searching for files, papers or the stapler. B efore long, you won’t know how you ever functioned without an organized home office.

Raising Holis It used to take a community of people to raise a child. Children were not just the responsibility of one parent, but they were the responsibility of an entire group. They had to get their hands dirty and get out in nature, they had to practise a religion and look after each other. Back then, raising holistic children came naturally, because there was no other choice. Choice is a good thing, though, right? So in this day and age, how do we make sure that our children find a purpose in life, not only through academia, but through connections with nature, the community and charitable values? Is it possible? Of course it is! I’m a huge advocate for the Holistic Approach, and as a teacher, I strive to embed it into my everyday lessons. Here are a few ways that parents can get on board, too. Connect with nature Go camping, bushwalking and talk about what you see. This fosters a genuine care and concern for nature, promotes eco-friendly thinking, and many studies have proven that a connection to nature improves chil-

76

dren’s cognitive function. Not to mention how good it is for us adults, too. Work on yourself What are your goals and how can you aim to assist others in need? You are the number one role-model for your child. Your charity work or care for others will be noticed and regarded as normal. I’m not saying go out and attempt a Mother Theresa status. Encouraging initiatives such as ‘Shave for a Cure’ (don’t laugh - I’ve done it, and it wasn’t pretty) or walks for a cause, are fantastic. I have a friend who spends Christmas lunch in a Melbourne Soup Kitchen, for those who can’t afford a special lunch, or don’t have family members. For younger children - read old fairy tales from a variety of countries Then read some more. Not the ‘dumbed-down’ versions either. Fairy tales are immersed in rich language, foster resilience, teach morals, cross cultural boundaries and develop the imagination. You can even refer to the characters in real-life situations and the little ones will love it. Learn about the ‘developmental stages’ - Magical

stic Children Realm to Rational Thinking Small children, up to grade one and two, believe in magic. They are deeply rooted in the magical realm; just listen to the way that they play. To validate this stage, we speak to them in this magical language and imagine with them. As they grow, there is a shift to rational think ing. It’s a difficult transition for some. No matter what stage your child is at—learn about them; understanding where your children are coming from, breaks down communication barriers; especially for teens. When children hit grade seven they love nothing more than to argue, if you have teenagers, then you probably understand. But this is not to drive you insane; it’s a necessary developmental stage on the way to becoming well-adjusted adults. The best thing to do with a teenager is to let them debate and negotiate (it’s worth the challenge). Value your child Not only is it important to listen to your children, but it’s important to value what they say. A child that feels heard, as well as respected, is one that will be able to express themselves to you later on in life—when

it becomes really important. Own up to mistakes Patience issues, losing your temper easily—we’ve all got a thing or two that we’d like to work on. It’s okay for children to see this, they need to know that people are not supposed to be perfect. What’s important is that you talk to them about the things you’d like to change, or get better at. This teaches your children to honour their feelings, talk about them, and reflect upon behaviour and attitudes. There are no lessons in pretending that you are always right. Talk to your school Ask your school how they strive to teach the ‘whole child’ and let them know that it is important to you. After all, you are their client. I will leave you with a clip from a young man who talks about the ‘Hacker’s Mentality’—this kid is a must see. Don’t be fooled into thinking that he is an anomaly, I’ve met plenty of students like this on my travels (and I haven’t had to travel far). Take Care of Each Other HMC

She runs My Green Lunch Box, an on-line store for all your lunch needs and home to the environmentally-friendly fundraising program for schools and kindergarten - promoting rubbish free lunch days in schools. My Green Lunch Box Health & Nutrition talks for children and parents are also available. Contact lindy@mygreenlunchbox.com.au or visit her website www.mygreenlunchbox. com.au for more information. “In Australia, as elsewhere across the globe, obesity is a major problem. In children a high intake of processed, ‘junk’ foods and an inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetables, are important risk factors for mental health problems and reduced cognitive ability. My Green Lunch Box is a wonderful initiative that helps lay the foundation for a lifetime of good eating and helps prevent so many of these avoidable diseases associated with obesity and poor nutrition. This contrasts to other forms of fundraising, such as the standard chocolate drive, which go against healthy eating practices”. Dr Felice Jacka, World Expert Childhood Nutrition “At last a fundraising initiative that supports the environment and your school by offering a variety of well designed lunch boxes, bottles and wrapping options to help parents avoid using packaging that often ends up in landfill.” Tamsin O’Neill - Editor, Green Magazine

The Healthy Lunch Box Low Down With the school year well and truly under way, parents are once again facing the weekday grind of packing a healthy lunch box that ticks all the right boxes – nutritionally balanced, tasty enough to get eaten and without any extra packaging. It can feel a little daunting at times and a bit too easy to keep including the same things day in, day out. Here’s the inspiration you have been looking for to help

breads, rolls, tortillas, wholegrain crackers, pasta, noodles and brown or basmati rice. The addition of some lean protein (chicken, fish, meat, cheese, eggs) at lunch is a great way to keep your kiddies blood sugar levels balanced for the day, ensuring they are full and focused for the afternoon ahead. Dairy is packed with protein and calcium for growing bones. Healthy kids need three serves of dairy every day. According to Dairy Australia only one out of five primary school kids achieves this, and even fewer teenagers. Include some cheese in a sandwich, yoghurt as a snack or tsasiki with crackers and carrots.

2. Superfoods for Super Heroes pack that healthy, tasty and sustainable lunch box.

1.Mix It Up Around a third of your child’s food intake is consumed at school, so it is incredibly important that the food in their lunch box provides optimum nutrition - the protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals they need for energy and growth. Include foods from across the different food groups to achieve this; -Most children enjoy a roll, sandwich or some other form of carbohydrate every day. Make sure you choose a complex carbohydrate for sustained energy and leave the white, low fibre, refined alternative alone. Think wholemeal

Try adding super foods to the lunch box fodder - chia seeds, goji berries, quinoa and yoghurt to name a few. It’s an excellent way to help ensure their nutritional demands are being met. Quinoa boasts the highest protein content of any grain and is a great one for adding to muffin mixes. Chia seeds are packed with so much nutritional goodness you could live off them almost entirely. These amazing seeds have countless health benefits and are rich in antioxidants, protein, calcium, Vitamin C, iron, omega 3 and magnesium. Even better, they are completely flavourless. I add chia seeds to baking, home-made muesli bars, yoghurt and smoothies.

3. Brain Food = Smart Snacking A mid-morning break with a serve of ‘brain food’ is a common occurrence in our class rooms and has been shown to improve concentration and learning. Fresh fruit, vegetables and a little protein are the perfect choice. Research shows that an amazing 43% of Australian primary school children aren’t getting the daily recommended amount of fruit and vegetables! Aim to include two serves of fresh fruits and two serves of vegetables for munching on at mid-morning, ‘brain-food’ snack time and later in the day.

4.Get on Board the Nude Food Revolution Schools across Australia are embracing the nude food revolution and encouraging children to bring a rubbish free lunch to school. As a nation we are the second highest producer of waste per person in the western world! Unfortunately school lunches are contributing to this, with the average lunch-toting child generating around 30 kg of litter a year. You can do your bit to reduce this by packing a school lunch without including any packaging, juice packs, plastic bottles or glad wrap.

5.Water Only Please Water should always be the drink of choice to keep your child hydrated throughout the day. Try freezing drink bottles the night before a hot day, for a refreshing, cool drink the next day at school. Soft drinks, cordials and fruit juice are high in sugar and are best left as an occasional treat. Eating fresh fruit is much better for you than a glass of fruit juice, which can have up to six teaspoons of sugar and very little dietary fibre!

6.Say Goodbye to Pre-Packaged Foods Try to avoid the temptation of purchasing any foods in a packet. Compared to fresh foods, pre-packaged food often contains more kilojoules, fat, salt and sugar. Foods to particularly be avoided include chips, sweet biscuits, muesli bars and breakfast bars along with processed meat. Avoiding those quick, pre-packaged snacks not only reduces waste at school but ensures better nutrition for your child

7.Kids Love to Cook Let your budding master chef join in with the shopping, meal planning and cooking. Find out what their favourite healthy foods are and plan some meals and snacks around them. Have your kids choose from a healthy selection of foods such as whole meal bread, lean protein, fruit, raw or salad vegetables, cheese, and yoghurt. Most importantly, talk to them about what makes a good food choice, you might be surprised how keen they are to eat a healthy lunch if they have made or chosen it themselves.

8.Active Kids = Hungry Kids One sure fire way to keep children hungry and happy to eat healthy food is exercise. Limit screen time and get them moving!

Reads...

A Human Element by Donna Galanti

100

Galanti’s debut novel features Laura Armstrong, an endearing heroine with a mysterious past, a big heart and a future filled with dread and peril. Although gifted with unusual skills, including mind-reading and healing ability, she is forced to endure having dear friends and her adoptive family members murdered one by one. Galanti’s skill at building character and making us care about Laura and those she loves, makes these deaths particularly painful. When we discover the killings aren’t random, and that a savage killer haunts Laura’s dreams, tormenting her with the promise that she is next, the reader becomes completely invested in this fight to the death. There is much more going on in this clever novel than death and destruction and evil. And a crashed meteorite, a government science experiment gone wrong, combined with a dying planet blend together to really amp up the stakes. Add to the mix the wonderful character of Ben Fieldstone. Here’s a boy who lost his family the night the meteorite struck, a boy who grows into a troubled and lonely man, and whose own personal demons lead him to Laura, and emotional

salvation and love. But first they must face the monster who hunts Laura. The last third of the novel is a race to the finish, and I was glued to the pages, hoping the characters I’d grown to love would finally find the peace they deserved. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Galanti’s debut is a thrilling ride full of believable characters, a terrifying villain, an epic battle for survival, and a love worth killing for. Highly recommended! - Marie Lamba, author of WHAT I MEANT and DRAWN. A HUMAN ELEMENT

All I can say is wow! Before you even open the damn thing the blurb has your panties getting all damp with excitement. *THUD* I totally passed out from reading that alone. Way to get a girl intrigued Mrs.Craig, as soon as I read that I had to have it! And not only that, but the cover is also smoking! Anywho! Jenna has had the hots for Andy for a while, not that I can blame her - wait to hear all about his plentiful package! *purrs* But with his new found fame our Andy gets a big head and a lot of female attention which leaves poor Jenna in the sidelines craving more than enjoying, and

turns him into a total dick! Good thing Jenna is willing to wait him out is all I can say. This bad boy should come with a Warning label - NOT for the Weak Hearted, Underage, or straight up Prudes! Mrs. Craig had managed to fit enough rough and ready shagging of the vaginal, oral, and anal variety as well as a steamy shower scene, into this toe curling short read. I’m telling you now, it will blow your mind and give you your own sexual urges to satisfy. Damn, I wouldn’t be surprised if it gives you your first biblio-release! Yeah... you know what I’m talking about! This book really did do it for me. It’s been a while since I was able to sit down and get so bloody turned on from flicking through

Autumn Duchess by Lucinda Brant

5 out of 5 stars review by Melissa Craig Autumn Duchess is the ‘one’ book you need to read this summer. The Australian Author, Lucinda Brant writes Georgian Historical Romances and she deserves all the accolades that she achieves. This book is outstanding, exceptional, unique and spectacular. It holds a special place in my heart and bookshelf. Why you may ask. Lucinda Brant was the first author to pull me away from reading the ‘paranormal genre’ to Georgian historical, which is amazing and she continues to keep me wanting more of her books. Autumn Duchess is a standalone book,

104

but the third book in the Roxton Series. It follows Noble Satyr and Midnight Marriage which I couldn’t put down, it was like watching a movie happen before my very eyes. The detail that Lucinda adds to each and every page is everything you should experience from a tremendous, magnificent and superb book. Lucinda Brant exceeded my expectations again, I fell in love with this courageous, bold, brave, robust, ruggedly tall handsome and brown eyed man. You will cry, laugh, smile and feel everything the characters are going through. Lucinda has a way of tugging at your heart before you know it is starting to happen.

White Walls

a Thriller from HMC

White Walls is an intriguing debut novel from H.M.C. Set in the near past of the 1990’s in Australia, it delves into the world of psychiatric care facilities and explores the fine line between fact and fiction. Could the delusional ramblings of a mentally ill patient be real? Told from multiple points of view the story deals with issues of betrayal, self-worth and childhood abuse. More compellingly it raises the question of how far a researcher would go to prove their theory. Conspiracy theories make for good suspense stories and this one doesn’t disappoint. The action ramps up along with the pace in the second half of the story as the plot twists and turns to a satisfying conclusion. Who will this appeal to? Anyone who likes a dark suspense story with an optimistic ending – Award winning author, Helene Young White Walls reads like a literary classic. The build is solid, provocative, the characters delightfully believable. This story, by H.M.C, grows and grows, sucking the reader in over his head. A well-controlled jaunt into deceptions and crisis, with a believable and satisfying conclusion. You really should read this writer from Australia. She’s going to become one of your faves.
