A dieci anni dalla scomparsa di Emilio Tadini una mostra ripercorre l’ultima fase dell’attività di un artista considerato tra i più originali del secondo dopoguerra

no scrittore che dipinge, un pittore che scrive”: così Umberto Eco descriveva l’artista milanese, che, infatti, oltre a essere pittore, era anche scultore e poeta. Tadini dipingeva per grandi cicli tematici, immergendo elementi onirici e letterari, personaggi reali e oggetti quotidiani in un’atmosfera surreale nella quale le leggi di spazio, tempo e gravità risultano annullate. Diversi i temi che appaiono nelle sue opere: prima di tutto, quello delle città italiane, dove frammenti di architetture si affastellano gli uni sugli altri creando un senso quasi claustrofobico. Molto amata dall’autore la problematica dei profughi, ispiratagli dalle foto sui giornali che lo avevano colpito fin da piccolo. In “Profughi” (1986), per esempio, si scorge una figura che ha sulle spalle una valigia aperta da cui scivolano via oggetti personali, libri, pennelli, tubetti di pittura, quindi tutti i suoi ricordi, la sua vita, la sua memoria. Mentre nella serie “Inno alla notte” compare la scritta pietas, nel buio di una notte scurissima, popolata da persone isolate e pensierose e illuminata soltanto dalla debole luce di una candela. Altri lavori caratteristici dello stile di Tadini sono i trittici, che nascono da un’evoluzione delle sue opere affollate di figure e piene di colore. Sei dei trittici esposti sono dedicati al tema de “Il ballo dei filosofi”: immagini decostruite, oppresse e costrette in spazi angusti. In questi lavori la sovrabbondanza di elementi viene portata all’eccesso, anche per raggiungere uno degli obiettivi prediletti dall’autore: presentare in un quadro una vera e propria narrazione. Come diceva lo storico dell’arte Arturo Carlo Quintavalle, “Tadini vuole dipingere come si scrive un romanzo”. A.S.

Ten years since the passing of Emilio Tadini, a show recovers the last phase of activity of an artist considered among the most original of the second post-war period

writer who paints, a painter who writes”: is how Umberto Eco described the Milanese artist, who in fact, further to being a painter, was a sculptor and poet. Tadini painted in great thematic cycles, immersing dreamlike and literary elements, real personalities and everyday objects in a surreal atmosphere in which the laws of space, time and gravity appear to be removed. The themes that appear in his work are diverse: first of all, that of the Italian cities, where fragments of architecture pile up on top of each other, almost creating a sense of claustrophobia. The issue of refugees was much loved by the author, inspired by the photos in the papers that struck him from being young. In “Profughi” (1986), for example, one spots a figure who has on his shoulders an open suitcase from which personal objects are slipping out - books, paintbrushes, tubes of paint and therefore all his keepsakes, his life, his memory. Whilst in the series “Inno alla notte” appears the piece of writing pietas, in the depths of a very dark night, populated by isolated, pensive people and illuminated only by the weak light of a candle. Other works characterised by the style of Tadini are triptych that was born from an evolution of his works, packed with figures and full of colour. Six of the triptychs on exhibit are dedicated to the theme from “Il ballo dei filosofi”: de-constructed images oppressed and forced into narrow spaces. In these works the overabundance of elements are brought to excess, so as to achieve one of the author’s favourite objectives: to present a true and real story in a painting. As the art historian Arturo Carlo Quintavalle said, “Tadini wants to paint as if writing a novel”.
