L
e sere d’estate altoatesine sono intense, popolate di sapori e musica, vitalità e storie antiche che trovano la loro strada verso l’attualità. I calici tintinnano in via Portici sotto le stelle della notte di San Lorenzo, il tramonto del solstizio d’estate accende le cime della corona di monti intorno alla piana di Bolzano
con i fuochi del Sacro Cuore, la musica e la danza invadono strade, vicoli e vetrine. Sorseggiando un Hugo, il nettare delle Dolomiti dal sapore di sambuco e menta, la giornata si conclude, magari dopo una bella cavalcata nel bosco, a passo di walzer in un’atmosfera d’antan. Un’estate da leggere tutta d’un fiato, e poi viverla per raccontarla. Buona lettura!

Sommer atemberaubenden Sonnenuntergänge bringen die umliegenden Berge zum Leuchten. Musik und Tanz erobern die Straßen, Gassen und Schaufenster der Stadt. Den Tag läßt man hier am besten bei einem gemütlichen Aperitif, zum Beispiel mit einem Glas von dem beliebten „Hugo“ Getränk ausklingen, vielleicht nach einem Walzertanz oder nach einem gemütlichen Ausflug. Ein Sommer, den man in einem Zug lesen, erleben und erzählen sollte! Gute Lektüre!

The day draws to a close sipping a Hugo, the elderflower and mint flavoured nectar of the Dolomites and waltzing to the melodies of yesteryear, perhaps after a horseback ride through the woods. u Lorenzi, am 10. August laden die Bozner Winzer zur gepflegten Weinverkostung unter die Lauben. Hier, wo früher Weinfässer gelagert und Weine ausgeschenkt wurden, ist es im Hochsommer angenehm kühl, ideal für einen entspannten Abend
mit einem Glas guten Weins. Der Lagrein und der St. Magdalener sind typisch für die mediterranen Lagen in und um Bozen. In der Lorenzinacht können sie mit anderen Weinen verkostet werden. Über 20 Kellereien gibt es in der Weinstadt Bozen. In der Lorenzinacht sind sie alle mit dabei. Wegen der guten Lagen auf den Hügeln der Umgebung und im Stadtgebiet selbst war Bozen schon immer eine Weinstadt. Als der Wein noch in Holzfässern gelagert wurde, war das Handwerk des Fassbinders sehr angesehen. Kein Wunder also, dass sich die Bozner Fassbinder bereits im 15. Jahrhundert zu einer eigenen Zunft zusammenschlossen. Die Bindergasse erinnert genauso daran wie der Bindertanz. Dieser aufwändige Volkstanz ist Männersache.
Die Lorenzinacht, wenn Wünsche wahr werden
Rot gekleidete Binder vollführen mit reich verzierten, offenen Reifen vielfältige Drehungen und Wendungen, die das Schicksal symbolisieren, das verschlungen seine eigenen Wege geht. Aufgeführt wurde der Bindertanz nur bei ganz besonderen Anläs-

sen, beim Besuch von Kaiserin Maria Luise im Jahr 1790 zum Beispiel. In der Lorenzinacht 2017 ist es endlich wieder soweit. 32 Volkstänzer bringen den Bindertanz auf den Waltherplatz. Acht von ihnen sorgen für die Musik, vier für‘s schwierige Glasl-Schwingen, andere bringen den Wein, und die Hauptgruppe tanzt mit den Reifen. Nach dem Tanz und nach der Weinverkostung bleibt dann immer noch genug Zeit, um in den Himmel zu schauen. Dort sind in dieser Nacht besonders viele Sternschnuppen zu sehen. Wer eine erspäht, darf sich etwas wünschen.

l 10 agosto, nella notte di San Lorenzo, i vignaioli di Bolzano invitano a una degustazione sotto i Portici. Qui un tempo il vino veniva conservato nelle botti e servito, in piena estate è un luogo fresco e ideale per trascorrere una serata rilassante con un buon bicchiere di vino. Tipici di
Bolzano e dei dintorni sono il Lagrein e il Santa Maddalena, che maturano in un clima mediterraneo. Nella notte di San Lorenzo possono essere degustati insieme a tanti altri vini. Nella città vinicola di Bolzano si contano quasi trenta cantine. Una ventina partecipa all‘evento “Calici di stelle“. Per la posizione favorevole dei vitigni sulle colline circostanti e nella stessa città, Bolzano è da sempre una città vinicola. Quando un tempo il vino veniva conservato nelle botti, il mestiere del bottaio era molto stimato. Non stupisce quindi che nel Quattrocento i bottai bolzanini si siano riuniti in una corporazione. Ancora oggi la Via dei Bottai e il ballo dei bottai (Bindertanz) tengono vivo il ricordo di questo mestiere antico. Il Blindertanz è un ballo popolare riservato agli uomini. Bottai vestiti di rosso con in mano cerchi decorati danzano compiendo svolte e giri che simboleggiano il destino che percorre la propria strada. Il Bindertanz veniva inscenato soltanto in occasioni speciali come per esempio lo fu la visita dell‘imperatrice Maria Luisa nel 1790. Durante la notte di San Lorenzo, quest’anno, è giunto di nuovo il momento: trentadue ballerini di danza popolare mostreranno i passi del Bindertanz in Piazza Walther. Otto di questi si occuperanno della musica, quattro del difficile Glasl-Schwingen. Altri porteranno il vino e il gruppo principale ballerà con i cerchi. Dopo il ballo e la degustazione non rimane che guardare il cielo. Nella notte delle stelle cadenti, chi ne vede una può esprimere un desiderio.

n 10 August, on the night of San Lorenzo, the winemakers of Bolzano invite the public to wine-tasting sessions under the porticoed arcade. At one time, wine was stored in barrels here and
served up, and at the height of summer it is a cool place and the perfect venue for a relaxing evening and a glass of fine wine. Lagrein and Santa Maddalena thrive in the Mediterranean climate and are commonly found in Bolzano and the surrounding area. On the night of San Lorenzo, they can be sampled alongside a variety of other wines. Sommeliers’ stands are also at hand if you want to ask for advice. There are over twenty vineyards in the winegrowing city of Bolzano, and all of them take part in the San Lorenzo festivities. Due to its proximity to the surrounding hills, Bolzano has always been a wine city. In the days when wine was stored in barrels, one trade which was held in particularly high regard was that of the cooper. It’s no surprise, then, that the coopers of Bolzano in formed their own guild in the 1400s. The “Via die Bottai” (Coopers’ Street) and the Coopers’ Dance, the Bindertanz keep the memory alive. This folk dance is strictly a men-only affair: Coopers dressed in red and holding decorated hoops in their hands perform a dance of twists and turns which symbolise destiny taking its own path.

The Coopers’ Dance was only ever performed on special occasions, such as the visit of Empress Maria Luisa in 1790. On the night of San Lorenzo this year, the moment will come once more. Thirty two folk dancers will demonstrate the steps of the Bindertanz in Piazza Walther. Eight of them play the music, while four of them perform the exceptionally difficult Glasl Schwingen. Others bring the wine, and the main group dance with the hoops. After the dance and the tasting session, all that remains is to gaze up at the skies. On this night, the “Night of the Shooting Stars”, anybody who sees one should make a wish.

a terza domenica dopo Pentecoste ardono le cime delle montagne nei dintorni di Bolzano. Un’immagine davvero impressionante. In tutto il Tirolo storico, inclusa la regione austriaca, vengono accesi i falò che splendono da una cima all’altra e che
richiamano un vecchio voto. Nel 1796 il Tirolo fu costretto a combattere contro i francesi, perché così fu stabilito dall’Impero: difendersi in caso di guerra. Completamente impreparata, la popolazione fu costretta a difendersi senza sapere cosa fare. I credenti cercarono di rendere clemente il cielo con un giuramento. Giurarono fedeltà al cuore di Gesù, poi si avviarono alla guerra e vinsero. Da allora, soprattutto giovani del Nord- Sud- e Welschtirol, scalano le montagne nella domenica del Sacro Cuore. Sperano che il tempo sia bello e al crepuscolo accendono i falò sulle cime. Partecipano i tirolesi conservatori così come chi vuole solo godersi il fascino di quella notte e che adora festeggiare. I fuochi del Sacro Cuore, però, non nacquero dal nulla nel 1796. In realtà risalgono alla vecchia tradizione del solstizio d’estate, che illumina sin dai tempi remoti la notte più corta dell’anno. Il Cristianesimo ha interpretato questi falò conferendo loro il significato di fuochi di San Giovanni. Dovevano tenere lontano il male, i temporali ma anche i demoni e portare fortuna alle popolazioni montane. Sotto il regime fascista i falò furono proibiti severamente, come tutto quello che aveva a che fare con la cultura popolare, la tradizione e la lingua tedesca. Per questo moti-

vo ancora oggi i falò sulle montagne vengono interpretati in parte come una dichiarazione politica per l’indipendenza. Nel 1961, nella notte del Sacro Cuore, furono fatti saltare in aria alcuni tralicci dell’alta tensione dai movimenti secessionisti per, dissero, far conoscere al mondo il “Südtirol Problem”. Oggi questa dimensione politica dei fuochi viene condivisa solo da alcuni settori della popolazione. Accanto alle cataste di legno che ardono, ci sono composizioni artistiche ad olio, preparate sul terreno e poi accese nella notte, e scritte rimandanti a varie simbologie. I falò accesi in montagna svolgevano anche una funzione pratica ai tempi in cui non esisteva la telefonia. Servivano alla comunicazione a lunga distanza. Oggi riuniscono per una notte le persone che vogliono festeggiare tra le montagne illuminate.

a On the third Sunday after Pentecost, the mountain peaks around Bolzano are aflame in an awe-inspiring spectacle. The fires are lit throughout historic Tyrol, including Austria, to illuminate the mountains in commemoration of an age-old oath.
In 1796, Tyrol was compelled to enter in battle against the French, following the decree of the Empire: to defend oneself in the event of war. Caught unprepared, the local people found themselves in the position of having to organise a defence with no idea of how to do so. The devout believers sent up an oath of loyalty to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in an attempt to appease the heavens, headed out to battle - and won. And ever since, above all the younger generations of North, South and Italian Tyrol have climbed the mountains on the Sunday of the Sacred Heart hoping for good weather, and light bonfires on the peaks at sunset. Conservative Tyroleans take part together with everybody who wants to enjoy the magic of the night and a good party. The Sacred Heart fire tradition, however, did not simply appear from out of nowhere in 1796. The fires actually date back to the old summer solstice tradition which has illuminated the shortest night of the year since time immemorial, and which Christianity interpreted as a celebration of the feast of St John. They were lit to ward off evil, to keep storms at bay, and to bring good luck to the people who lived on the mountains. During the fascist regime the bonfires were banned, as was everything connected with German folk culture, tradition and language. It is for this reason that, even to this day, the fires lit on the mountains are seen as a political statement in support of independence. In 1961, a number of electricity pylons were blown up by the secessionist movement on Sacred Heart night to draw global attention to the “Südtirol Problem”. Nowadays, however, the political motives for lighting the fires are shared by only a small sector of the local population. Alongside the stacks of burning sticks, oil-based works of art and symbolic writings are mapped out on the ground and set on fire at night. The bonfires on the mountains also played a practical role in the past, before the days of the telephone, and were used as a means of long-distance communication. Today, those who want to enjoy celebrations amidst the fires of the mountains meet up for one single night of festivities.

elodien erklingen durch die laue Luft einer Sommernacht. Kleider mit Spitzen und Miedern, Zweireiher und Goldborten schweben über die größte Tanzfläche Europas. Alle tanzen im Walzertakt wie
nach Tradition. Am 9. Juni erlebt man diesen zauberhaften Abend, an dem sich das Zentrum von Bozen in ein wahrhaftiges Szenario des 19. Jahrhunderts verwandelt. Der Waltherplatz lässt sich von der Magie des Walzers erobern und verwandelt sich in eine große Tanzfläche unter freiem Himmel. Die besondere Atmosphäre ruft die Aufenthalte der Prinzessin Sissi in Erinnerung, die die milden Temperaturen des Südens in Südtirol genoss. Damen, Kavaliere, Trinksprüche, schimmernde Diademe, Lackschuhe, strahlend weiße Tischdecken... all das stellt „Walzerplatz“ dar. Schon am nächsten Morgen verschwindet das märchenhafte Flair und alles kehrt zum Alltag zurück. Die Idee dieser Veranstaltung stammt von den Betriebsinhabern des Stadthotels und wurde von der Stadt Bozen sofort mit

Waltzing the night away
T
he melodies float through the cool air of a summer’s night. Lace and bodices twirl alongside double breasted jackets and gold braid, skimming smoothly over the ground, pirouetting as one in a dance of fleeting glances, of smiles and of tradi-
tion. It’s the magic of the waltz, floating gently down on Piazza Walther and bringing us back, in atmosphere at least, to the days of Empress Sissi, who, having left the Danube in search of the soothing warmer climes towards the south of the Empire, sojourned along the banks of the Adige. Ladies and cavaliers, the clinking of crystal glasses, sparkling tiaras, patent leather shoes and crisp white linen… this is the night of “Piazza Walzer”, the event that transforms Bolzano city centre into a déjà vu glimpse into the 1800s for one single night, on 9 June. Afterwards the stage vanishes like Cinderella’s coach, and the next morning piazza Walther returns to its everyday goings-on and its long aperitifs seated in the armchairs of the bars in the square. The idea came about through the vision of the Hotel Città owners, whose doors open onto the square, and it was immediately welcomed with enthusiasm by the city. For years now, it has been a fixed, unmissable event which has earned itself a place of honour in the hearts and minds of the city. From 7pm, free dance lessons are on offer for a last-minute practice, followed by an exhibition from the dance school students with choreography created for the occasion, and finally the official opening of the dance, at 9 pm, celebrated by the guest of honour for 2017, Gemma Bertagnolli, the opera singer born in Bolzano. Famed the world over for her soprano interpretations of a Baroque repertoire, she counts the Imperial House of Japan amongst her admirers. And the rest is pure music and magic.

wei Wochen lang präsentieren herausragende internationale Künstler ihre Tanzeinlagen in einer einmaligen Kulisse und in einem einzigartigen kulturellen Kontext. Das ist Tanz Bozen, ein Festival, das seit 33. Ausgaben Bozen in eine Hauptstadt des internationalen Tanzsommers verwandelt. Das Tanzfestival ist eine hochkarätige Veranstaltung mit einer ruhmreichen Vergangenheit, die aber noch vieles zu bieten hat. Emanuele Masi, künstlerischer Leiter des Festivals, verrät schon vorab einige Neuigkeiten dieser Ausgabe. „Link” ist der Titel, der ausgewählt wurde, um ein dreijähriges Projekt abzuschließen, welches sich der Erforschung der Identität gewidmet hat. Link ist ein Wort das alltäglich gebraucht wird und aus dem Bereich der Informatik stammt. Wir interpretieren es im weitesten Sinn. Wir analysieren die Identität in Beziehung mit dem Anderen, von der Familie bis hin zum Verhältnis mit der eigenen Kultur und Tradition. Das Festival erzählt den zeitgenössischen Tanz. Was erwartet uns bei dieser Ausgabe? Zum ersten Mal werden wir außer einem Fixpunkt von Merce Cunningham, einem der wichtigsten Lehrer des amerikanischen postmodernen Tanzes, das Tanzensemble Rosas nach Bozen holen. Dann gibt es natürlich französische Choreographien und die Arbeit des Künstlers Alessandro Sciarroni, die aus den Schritten des Schuhplattlers kreiert wurde, dem originalen Tanz der Tiroler und Bayern. Eine jener Gelegenheiten, in der sich eine traditionelle mit der zeitgenössischen Kunst verbinden www.tanzbozen.it
kann. Es gibt viele Anregungen. Das Programm umfasst über 18 Darbietungen für jeden Geschmack, von den großen Ballettkompanien bis zu den „Klassikern” der zeitgenössischen Kunst. Dieses Festival beschränkt sich nicht auf die Theaterbühne, sondern bezieht die ganze Stadt mit ein. Können wir schon einige Details verraten? Das Festival bewegt sich vom Zentrum in die Stadtviertel, um alle Bürger miteinzubeziehen. Auch die Kleinsten: viele Initiativen werden für sie organisiert, wie beispielsweise die „Nacht im Theater”, eine Erfindung von Tanz Bozen, die von zahlreichen Theatern nachgeahmt wird. Auch die „silent disco” unter den Sternen und die „secret performance” sind bereits bestätigt: Man trifft sich im Theater, das Publikum wird aber nicht wissen, wohin wir es bringen. Wie erleben Sie Ihre Arbeit als künstlerischer Leiter eines so renommierten Festivals? Ein Tanzfestival zu organisieren, ist ein wenig wie zu fischen. Eine große Portion Geduld ist notwendig, damit Künstler und Projekte ins Netz gehen, die mit dem kulturellen Festessen im Einklang sind, das wir unserem Publikum anbieten. Manchmal handelt es sich um glückliche Zufälle und einer guten Intuition. An eine Veranstaltung zu glauben, die es noch nicht gibt, ist immer eine Wette. Was ist die große Wette dieser Ausgabe? Das Debüt des genialen Künstlers Olivier Dubois, der die Stadt Bozen ausgewählt hat, um sein neues – von Dante inspiriertes Werk – der Welt vorzustellen. Er hat uns aber noch nicht verraten, wie er den Kindern die sieben Todsünden erklären wird. Wir sind aber davon überzeugt, dass es eine faszinierende Erzählung sein wird.

È Bolzano Danza, il festival che da trentatré edizioni trasforma Bolzano in una delle capitali estive della danza internazionale. La rassegna si conferma una manifestazione di grande prestigio, con un passato glorioso e ancora tanto da mostrare. È Emanuele Masi, direttore
artistico del festival, a illustrare le novità di questa edizione. “Link” è il titolo scelto per chiudere un progetto triennale dedicato all’esplorazione dell’identità. Link è una parola ormai di uso quotidiano che ci rimanda all’informatica, ma che viene da noi proposta nella sua accezione più ampia. Analizziamo l’identità in termini di relazione con l’altro, dalla famiglia fino ai legami con la propria cultura e la tradizione. La chiave del festival è quella di raccontare la danza contemporanea. Cosa ci riserverà questa edizione? Per la prima volta porteremo a Bolzano Danza la compagnia Rosas oltre a un caposaldo di Merce Cunningham, uno dei più grandi maestri della post modern dance americana. Poi molta coreografia francese e il lavoro dell’artista Alessandro Sciarroni creato a partire dai passi dello Schuhplattler, il ballo originale tirolese e bavarese. Una di quelle occasioni in cui un’arte tradizionale sa innestarsi sui linguaggi più contemporanei. Gli spunti sono tanti. Un cartellone ecumenico con più di diciotto spettacoli per soddisfare tutti. Grandi compagnie di balletto e i “classici” della danza contemporanea. Un festival che non si limita al palcoscenico del teatro ma coinvolge tutta la città, possiamo svelare qualche dettaglio? Il festival si muove dal centro verso i quartieri per coinvolgere tutti i cittadini. Anche i più piccoli: grande spazio verrà riservato alle iniziative per i bambini come la “notte a teatro”, un’invenzione di Bolzano Danza che molti teatri ci stanno copiando. Confermate anche le “silent disco” sotto le stelle e la “secret performance”: il ritrovo è a teatro, ma il pubblico ignora dove lo porteremo. Come affronta il lavoro di direttore artistico di un festival così prestigioso? Organizzare un festival di danza è un po’ come pescare. Serve una buona dose di pazienza per portare nella rete artisti e progetti in armonia col banchetto culturale che offriamo al nostro pubblico. A volte invece si tratta di occasioni molto fortunate e di un buon intuito. Credere in uno spettacolo che ancora non esiste è sempre una scommessa. La grande scommessa di questa edizione? Il nuovo debutto assoluto di Olivier Dubois, artista geniale, che ha scelto proprio Bolzano per presentare al mondo la sua prossima creazione ispirata a Dante. he largest show on the European scene all packed into two weeks, backed by a natural and cultural landscape which is truly unique: Bolzano Danza, the festival which has transformed Bolzano into one of the summer capital cities of international dance on thir-

event indeed, with a glorious past to look back on and a great deal to come in the future. Emanuele Masi, the festival’s artistic director, talks about the new features of this edition of the event. “Link” is the title that was chosen to close a three-year project on the exploration of identity. Link is a word in everyday use, generally in association with IT. We use it, however, in its broader sense; and analyse identity in terms of relationships with others, from family bonds to links with one’s culture and traditions. The portrayal of contemporary dance is the keynote of the festival. What does this edition have in store for us? For the first time, we will be bringing Rosas dance company to Bolzano Danza, as well as staging a masterpiece by Merce Cunningham, one of the great maestros of post-modern American dance. The line-up includes a lot of French choreography and works by artist Alessandro Sciarroni inspired by the original Tyrolean and Bavarian Schuhplattler, the “shoe dance”, one of those occasions where traditional art integrates seamlessly into contemporary style. There are numerous concepts in the wide-ranging programme: More than eighteen shows to suit all tastes, from large ballet troupes to the “classics” of modern dance. A festival which does not restrict itself to theatre stages, but gets the whole city involved. Could you give us a couple of details?
The festival leads out from the city centre towards the outskirts, drawing in the whole city right down to the youngest children: A large space is reserved for kids’ projects including “Notte a teatro” (Night at the Theatre”), a Bolzano
Dance creation which many theatres are now emulating. The silent disco under the starry skies has also been confirmed, as has the “secret performance”: The venue is a theatre, but the public are in the dark as to where we will take them. How does an artistic director tackle a festival of such prestige? Organising a festival is a bit like fishing. You need a healthy dose of patience to net the artists and projects which resonate with the cultural feast which we offer our public. Having said that, sometimes it’s simply a case of good luck and good intuition. Belief in a show which has yet to be staged is always a gamble. And the biggest gamble of this edition? A new, first-ever debut by Olivier Dubois, a gifted artist who has chosen Bolzano to present his latest, Dante-inspired creation. He still hasn’t told us how he plans to explain the seven deadly sins to children, but we have no doubt that it’s going to be a fascinating tale.

ahlreiche Burgen zieren das Landschaftsbild rund um Bozen. Sechs dieser Burgen (drei davon im Bozen und drei in Eppan) werden am 10. und 11. Juni zum Schauplatz für die Veranstaltung „Castelronda“: zwei Tage ganz im Zeichen von Geschichte
und Kultur. In den teilnehmenden Burgen kehrt mittelalterliches Leben ein. Schloss Runkelstein, Schloss Maretsch und Schloss Rafenstein Bozen sowie Schloss Hocheppan, Burg Boymont und Schloss Moos Schulthaus laden zu einem unvergesslichen Wochenende. Wer sich auf eine Reise in die Vergangenheit begeben möchte, sollte diese Gelegenheit unbedingt wahrnehmen. In den Burghöfen werden mittelalterliche Lager aufgebaut: Schaukämpfe und alte Handwerkskünste begeistern das Publikum. Ritter und Edelfrauen laden zum Tanz ein. Originalgetreue Kostüme können anprobiert werden, alte Gerichte werden nach antiken Rezepten zubereitet. Die Besucher können sich in jeder Burg über ein interessantes Programm erfreuen. I
n Val d’Ega l’astronomia è alla portata di tutti. A pochi chilometri a nord di Bolzano infatti si trova il primo astrovillaggio d’Europa e qui vedere le stelle anche di giorno non è una fantasia. Così come passeggiare lungo il “sentiero dei pianeti” o viaggiare verso Marte o Saturno. Un ricco sistema di proposte si snoda tra i borghi di Collepietra, San Valentino in Campo e Cornedo all’Isarco e avvicina i visitatori alle meraviglie del cosmo. Una prima tappa è il planetario dell’Alto Adige, un sofisticato e moderno simulatore dove poter ammirare il cielo stellato e il movimento degli astri come avviene in natura. Un viaggio nello spazio ma anche nel tempo, dal momento che è possibile proiettare sullo schermo, molte ore prima che avvenga, il tramonto del sole sulle Dolomiti e il cielo così come appare di notte. Grazie a immagini tridimensionali in alta definizione è possibile immergersi letteralmente nello spazio cosmico. È un po’ come sedere nella sala di un cinema, sprofondare in poltrona e godere di una straordinaria vista su costellazioni e pianeti lontani. Gli astronomi del planetario, che sono anche divulgatori scientifici, fanno da guida in questo viaggio suggestivo. Di non minore stupore è una visita all’osservatorio astronomico Max Valier nella frazione di Obergummer, una finestra aperta sull’universo lontana dalle luci del centro abitato. Scrutare il cielo all’inizio della notte con il telescopio puntato e le spiegazioni degli astrofili amatoriali è un’esperienza emozionante. Di giorno, invece, nella vicina cupola dell’osservatorio Peter Anich è possibile osservare direttamente il sole con un telescopio adatto. Ed infine il “sentiero dei pianeti”, un percorso escursionistico a tema. Si tratta di una ricostruzione in scala del sistema solare (1:1 miliardo). Partendo dall’osservatorio astronomico il primo pianeta in cui ci si imbatte è Mercurio. A seguire Venere, la Terra e Marte. Con tre ore di cammino e con l’aiuto dei pannelli esplicativi dedicati ad ogni pianeta, una passeggiata nella natura si trasforma in un interessante viaggio nel sistema solare.

m Eggental wird Astronomie für alle zum Erlebnis! Das erste europäische Sternendorf Steinegg liegt nur wenige Kilometer nördlich von Bozen auf einem Hochplateau. Hier genießt man eine einmalige Aussicht auf den nächtlichen Sternenhimmel. Die Ortschaften Steinegg, Gummer und Karneid bieten viele
verschiedene Angebote zum Thema Astronomie. Die erste Etappe führt zum Planetarium Südtirol: wie in einem Kino beobachten die Besucher – unabhängig von Zeit und Wetter – den Sternenhimmel über Südtirol und die Bewegung der Gestirne in einer naturgetreuen Darstellung auf Leinwand. Die wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter des Planetariums begleiten die Besucher auf ihre Reise durch den Kosmos und stehen mit fachkundigem Rat zur Seite. Dank der Kombination aus dreidimensionalen Bildern und Projektion auf dem großen Kuppel-Bildschirm erleben die Zuschauer das Weltall hautnah, so als wären sie selbst ein Teil davon. Nicht weniger beeindruckend ist die Aussicht auf den Himmel in der Sternwarte „Max Valier“ in Obergummer. Die Sternwarte stellt ein auf das Weltall geöffnetes Fenster dar. Es werden wöchentlich öffentliche Führungen angeboten, bei denen die Teilnehmer den Nachthimmel mit Hilfe eines speziellen Teleskopes ergründen können. Das ist eine aufregende Erfahrung, auch für Erwachsene. Gleich neben der Sternwarte steht das Sonnenobservatorium „Peter Anich“. Diese Kuppel ist ebenso mit einen besonderem Teleskop für die Beobachtung der Sonne ausgestattet. Die Amateurastronomen Max Valier or-
ganisieren auch hier öffentliche Führungen. In Obergummer startet außerdem der Planetenweg, ein lehrreicher Themenweg, der besonders für Familien mit Kindern spannend ist. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Rekonstruktion des Sonnensystems im Maßstab 1:1 Miliarde. Bei der Wanderungen am Planetenweg trifft man zuerst auf den Planeten Merkur, dann Venus und die Erde und weiter bis zum Ende der Reise durch das Sonnensystem. Der Weg führt durch Wiesen, Wälder und Biotope in einer ruhigen Umgebung mit schönem Ausblick auf die Dolomiten. Jede Planetenstation gibt Informationen zum betreffenden Planeten. Die Wanderung durch das Sonnensystem nimmt circa 2,5-3 Stunden in Anspruch.

One of the first stages of the route is the Alto Adige planetarium, a sophisticated and modern simulator where observers can marvel at the starry skies and the movement of the stars as they occur in nature - a trip through time as well as space, as sunset on the Dolomites and the night skies can all be projected on the screen hours ahead of time. And with 3D HD vision to enjoy you can, almost literally, melt into the cosmos. It’s a little like going to the cinema, lying back in a comfy chair and enjoying a mind-blowing view of the constellations and far-distant planets. The astronomers at the observatory, who are also “promoters” of the scientific world, guide you through the awe-inspiring journey. No less

Observing the skies at nightfall through a well-directed telescope, with amateur astronomers on hand to explain things to you, is an absolutely incredible experience. During the day, on the other hand, you can look straight at the sun through a specially-developed telescope in the cupola of the nearby Peter Anich observatory. And last but not least, the planetary trail, a themed excursion route: A scaled reconstruction of the solar system (1:1 billion), it begins at the astronomical observatory and leads you to Mercury first of all, followed by Venus, Earth and Mars. On a three-hour walk and the aid of information boards for each planet, a simple walk through the countryside comes to be a fascinating voyage through the solar system.

rstmals präsentiert die Europäische Textilakademie aus der über 3000 Objekte umfassende Mode- und Kostümsammlung von Raffaello Piraino in Palermo eine Auswahl von historischen Kostümen und Accesoires aus den damals bedeutenden
europäischen Manufakturen. Die historisch aufgebaute Sammlung mit Schwerpunkt Mitteleuropa, hat sich zu einem bedeutenden Gesamtüberblick für Bekleidung und Accesoires entwickelt. Der Bogen spannt sich von der Alltagskleidung bis zu exklusiver Haute Couture. Die Exponate stammen aus dem Zeitraum 1700 – 1950, welche u. a. berühmte Namen der Schneiderkunst wie Poiret, Fortuny, Worth junior, Schiapparelli und Doucet aufweisen. Neben diesen großen Couturiers sind auch einige herausragende italienische Schneiderateliers wie La Ville de Lyon Florence, Serafina Barberis-Tourin, Angelica & Figli Neapel zu nennen. Die Exponate aus verschiedenen Epochen stammen größtenteils aus Familienbesitzen. Die Sammlung zeigt Kleidung und Accessoires, die charakteristisch für die kostümgeschichtlichen Epochen sind und wichtige zeithistorische Artefakte aus der Gesellschafts-, Wirtschaft und Sozialgeschichte darstellen und in enger Verbindung zu der Verarbeitung von Samt und Seide im mitteleuropäischen Kontext stehen. Neben der Damen und Herrenbekleidung finden sich hier auch Fächer, Handtaschen, Handschuhe, Schuhe, Hüte, Schals, Schirme, Strümpfe, Strick- und Stickwaren, Spitzen und Textilmuster vom 18. Jahrhundert bis heute. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der bürgerlichen Damenbekleidung des 18. bis zum 20. Jahrhunderts (Biedermeier- und Gründerzeit) wobei Gesellschafts-, Abend- und Ballkleider dominieren. Der Reichtum und die Qualität der Stoffe, die Spitzen und die Herstelleretiketten der renommiertesten Manufakturen, bezeugen ein enges Anlehnen an das Modediktat jener Zeit zwischen den Metropolen Paris, London und Wien.

d’origine dei cavalli Haflinger (avelignesi). Una razza dal portamento nobile ed elegante, il cavallo Haflinger si distingue per la sua bionda criniera ed è sempre stato protagonista della vita contadina della zona. È anche un ottimo compagno per un’escursione in montagna. Adatto anche a chi non ha molta dimestichezza con i cavalli per il suo carattere mansueto e l’abitudine a percorrere senza difficoltà anche i percorsi più impervi. Ogni avventura in sella inizia al maneggio, dove avviene il primo approccio con l’animale. Il tempo necessario per strigliarlo e sellarlo ed è pronto ad una lunga cavalcata o una breve passeggiata lungo i sentieri sterrati che si snodano tra i boschi e conducono verso i rifugi. Montare in sella è un modo unico di vivere la natura in modo profondo. Si procede spediti e in silenzio. Solo il rumore degli zoccoli sul terreno e un cinguettio in lontananza, circondati da un panorama eccezionale. Sull’altipiano del Salto di certo stupisce la bellezza del paesaggio; in sella ad un cavallo poi la vista gode di una nuova ed emozionante prospettiva. Lo sguardo spazia tutto attorno verso prati verdi e lunghe distese di alberi. Nelle giornate di sole le Dolomiti che si stagliano attorno regalano una vista sensazionale. D’estate poi è piacevole soffermarsi all’ombra di un larice e riposarsi, assaporando un piacevole momento di quiete.

down on Bolzano from high is the homeland of the Haflinger horse. A noble, elegant breed, the Haflinger is famed for its blonde mane and has always been the star of rural life in the local area. It is also an excellent companion for a trip in the mountains. Gentle in manner and well-able to cross the most impervious of paths, it is an excellent breed for people who don’t have much experience with horses. Every horseback adventure begins at the stable, and the first approach to the horse. The time it takes to brush him down and saddle him up, and he’s ready for a long ride or a short trot along the dirt roads leading through the woods and on to the mountain huts. You get to your destination quickly, and in silence, accompanied only by the sound of the hooves on the ground, the chirping of birds in the distance and a breathtaking panorama all around. On the Salto mountain plateau, the beauty of the countryside is astounding; on horseback, the view takes on a whole new dimension. Your gaze sweeps over vast green fields and endless woodland. ummer in Bolzano is a summer of music: From June to September, the city becomes one enormous stage as young and emerging musicians fill the theatres, squares and all the corners of the city with their artistic talents. Unexpected venues, unexplored sounds and
inspiring projects have always been the ingredients for success for the first event of the summer in Bolzano. The Sßdtirol Jazz Festival Alto Adige brings the greats of international jazz to Bolzano from all corners of the globe. For ten days from 30 June to 9 July, there are endless improvisations and an incredible one hundred and thirty artists waiting to take the stage. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the event, and the carnival of music will be heading to 20 towns in the region of South Tyrol for a total of seventy concerts in sixty captivatingly unusual locations – and not only in the concert halls. True to form, the festival will be bringing jazz music to the mountain trails, the squares in the historic centre, and the ancient palaces and museums. The guests of honour this time around come from the three states of Benelux – Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg. After a short break, Bolzano will also be hosting another prestigious event in July for fans of classical and early music. The event is organised by Bolzano Festival Bozen, scheduled from 27 July until the

The musical journey begins with a concert from the Haydn Orchestra at the Parco delle Semirurali and continues around the shops and cafes in the historic centre, the ancient manor houses (Castel Roncolo and Castel Mareccio), the rooms of the Palazzo Mercantile and the old Gries parish church. Castel Roncolo will also be the setting of another unmissable event: the six concerts of the "Musical Festival" organized by the South Tyrol Cultural Institute.

gna spesso si desidera qualcosa di dissetante. Le bevande della tradizione altoatesina a base di sciroppo sono quelle di lamponi o con fiori di sambuco, naturali e autentici, fatti in casa che vengono offerti nei masi. L’offerta degli sciroppi è cresciuta nel tempo. Al di là di quelli classici si trovano di altri tipi: con i frutti, a base di ribes, more, amarena e olivello spinoso, sciroppi alle erbe aromatiche come la melissa, la menta o le erbe di montagna, ma anche ai fiori come la malva, il dente di leone o la camomilla. Insomma alla fantasia non vengono posti limiti. I produttori non scelgono solo accuratamente le materie prime, ma preparano gli sciroppi secondo ricette tramandate da generazioni oppure cercano di interpretarli fino a quando il risultato è ottimale. Frutti, fiori o erbe aromatiche vengono raccolti a mano tra i campi del maso. Gli sciroppi si preparano con lo zucchero, vengono pastorizzati e resi conservabili. Solo acido citrico e antiossidanti sono amessi, ma non altri additivi o aromi. In una bella caraffa di vetro insieme ad alcune fette di limone o ad un rametto con erbe fresche, in un caldo pomeriggio d’estate un succo rinfrescante nel proprio giardino o sulla terrazza è l’ideale. Inoltre, si possono creare aperitivi originali con gli sciroppi. Per un dopolavoro allegro oppure per una grigliata con gli amici, l’idea in più è quella di aggiungere allo sciroppo di fiori di sambuco ghiaccio, acqua minerale e vino bianco. Sono gli ingredienti base dell’Hugo, il cocktail più famoso per l’aperitivo in Alto Adige. Non rimane che decorare i bicchieri con foglie di menta e fette di limone. n hot days, cordials make a pleasant change and are an easy, tasty alternative to the usual soft drink. And after an agreeable day wandering the shops, out and about on a mountain bike or hiking in the mountains, there’s nothing that hits the spot like a refreshing drink.
Raspberry and elderflower are the flavours of the traditional, natural and authentic home-made South Tyrolean cordials which are served in farmhouse restaurants. The cordial range has expanded somewhat over time and nowadays there are a variety of other flavours to supplement the classics: the fruit varieties include blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry, sea buckthorn; the aromatic herb range counts melissa, mint and mountain herbs, and there are also flower cordials such as mallow, dandelion and camomile. There are practically no limits to the imagination. The makers select their ingredients with the greatest of care and prepare the cordials to recipes handed down over the generations, or reinterpret them to perfection. Fruits, flowers and aromatic herbs are hand-harvested from farm fields. The cordials are prepared with sugar, pasteurised and preserved; citric acid and antioxidants alone are permitted, but no other additives or flavourings. Served in a pretty glass carafe with a few slices of lemon, a refreshing juice in the comfort of your own garden or terrace is the perfect drink for a hot summer’s day. Cordials also make a wonderful base for creative, original aperitifs. For a sociable evening after work or a barbecue with friends, one particularly fine recipe is elderflower cordial with ice cubes, mineral water and prosecco. These are the base ingredients for Hugo, South Tyrol’s most famous aperitif cocktail. Garnish the glasses with a sprig of mint and a slice of lemon for a perfect finishing touch. senza dubbio la star di Bolzano. Ötzi, l’Uomo venuto dal ghiaccio, è la famosa mummia che dal 1998 è esposta al Museo Archeologico dell’Alto Adige con l’equipaggiamento originario risalente ad oltre cinquemila anni fa. Sono trascorsi 25 anni dal
suo ritrovamento e non solo Ötzi è il protagonista di un museo a lui dedicato, ma ha anche ispirato fumetti e film fantasy. La mummia è perfettamente conservata nella sua stanza a temperatura controllata. Inoltre sono esposti gli attrezzi e il vestiario recuperati durante il ritrovamento al giogo di Tisa, vicino al ghiacciaio del Similaun, e si può ammirare una ricostruzione fedele di come poteva essere il suo aspetto un tempo. Si pedala tutti insieme lungo cento chilometri di piste che dal centro della città conducono verso sentieri immersi nella natura. Si parte a mezzanotte per poi ammirare l’alba sul lago di Resia il mattino seguente. Per gli appassionati di corse estreme sui sentieri di montagna invece è in programma dal 28 al 30 luglio la quinta edizione della “Südtirol Ultra Skyrace” che con i suoi 121 chilometri e 7554 metri di dislivello è la corsa in montagna più estrema al mondo. Lungo i sentieri impervi dell’alta via “Hufeisentour” nelle Alpi Sarentine, gli atleti si sfidano e sfidano se stessi per completare il tragitto in un tempo massimo di quaranta ore. Everybody pedals together along one hundred kilometres of cycle paths which lead from the city centre to trails in the countryside. From Franz Joseph to the Base Tunnel: On 24 August, the Brennero Railway will be blowing out 150 candles
S
etting off from the border pass at an altitude of 1,475 m a.s.l, this railway is the highest in both Italy and Austria: It extends out over the Isarco valley to Bolzano (265m a.s.l), covering a distance of around 80 kilometres. It has, perhaps, made its mark on the last few centuries of the lands it runs through more than any
other construction. The railway was inaugurated on 24 August 1867 after just three years of work: A historic date, not only because it marked the completion of the railway, built by emperor Franz Joseph and known as the “Suedbahn”, which covered the regions of both the Tyrol and Veneto en-route from Innsbruck to Verona, but also because it signalled the economic and cultural renaissance in South Tyrol. From the second half of the 1700s, the city began to slip into decadence after a long wave of war and Napoleonic occupation. This culminated in 1830 with the suppression of the Magisterial Court founded by Claudia de’ Medici, antecedent of today’s Chamber of Commerce. Adieu, then, to commercial and cultural exchange, tourists, merchants and illustrious guests who had visited these lands since time immemorial and included Goethe and Mozart, Emperor Joseph II and Pope Pius VI. Fate, fortunately, stepped in to lend a helping hand on 23 March 1859 with the inauguration of the first railway track to the south of the Alps from Verona to Trento and shortly afterwards, on May 16, from Trento to Bolzano. Despite the loss of Veneto and the consequent shift of the Italian-Austrian border to Borghetto di Ala in October 1886, the last remaining stretch of track which crossed the pass between Bolzano and Innsbruck was inaugurated to great celebration on 24 August 1867. One of the first areas to benefit was the former local council of Gries, which became part of Bolzano in 1925, and had enjoyed great fame for many years due to its luxurious hotels. The train station was, in fact, named “Bozen-Gries”. In the early years of the 1900s, new means of transport in-

cluding cable cars, cableways and small trains allowed tourists to ascend to one thousand metres a.s.l and on to the surrounding mountains in ease and comfort. The Colle cable car opened the new season, and was the first cable car in the world to transport passengers. The city, which passed in Italian hands after the First World War in 1918, became the new regional capital of the province of Bolzano. It went on to experience dizzying industrial development, only to sink once more during the post-WW2 depression. The Brennero line, rebuilt and modernised, contributed once more to the subsequent revival, and remains to this day the primary link between north and south. It also remains central to pan-European development plans: In around ten years, the tunnel below the pass will be completed. And a record tunnel it is too: 54 kilometres of high-speed tunnel which can be traversed in just half an hour, bringing Bolzano one step closer to Europe and the Mediterranean.
