Each year hundreds of adults improve their maths and English skills at Bolton College. Good English and maths skills are key to gaining new jobs, progressing to higher levels of learning, helping children with homework or to challenge that big electricity bill. You may already have the skills, but you may not have the qualifications to prove it, limiting your potential when searching for jobs or trying to secure a promotion. At Bolton College, we will help and support you to gain qualifications in English and maths, whatever stage you’re at.

What Does Bolton College Offer? With a range of courses from beginners up to GCSE level, we can help you to improve your English and maths skills and achieve new goals. We will advise you on the right course options for you, giving you the confidence to progress.

What Our Learners Say

Ahmed Mohammad Maths GCSE ‘I like the teaching methods in class; they really help me learn. We do a mixture of presentations and group work and our teachers made sure we were fully prepared for our exams by letting us practice our techniques using mock GCSE papers. GCSE Maths has given me the qualification I need to get to university to study Business Management’.

Janet Grundy Pre-GCSE English I’m studying English as part of my job at Royal Bolton Hospital. I’m really enjoying the course, especially the grammar side of things. I have much more confidence now, both at work when writing reports and at home. My English Level 2 is next; this qualification will mean that I can apply to be a nursing associate and then eventually, I’ll be able to train as a staff nurse. /boltoncollege

Sarah Wilcock English GCSE Passing my GCSE English has allowed me to land a job that I love and it’s made me realise I can achieve anything that I want! During my GCSE, I received all the support I needed to improve my grades and get me ready for sitting my exam. Now I’ve got my English, my next goal is to complete my NVQ in Health & Social Care.

Beth Core Hairdressing Apprenticeship Level 3 Working at Egerton Hair & Beauty ‘I completed my A-Levels and was destined for university, but I realised early on that this wasn’t the route for me. My Dad started his career as an apprentice, before becoming a successful business owner. This appealed to me, especially as it would allow me to pursue my dream of working in the hairdressing industry. I’m now a fully-qualified stylist at Egerton Hair & Beauty, with a strong client base and a growing reputation for hair-up, bridal and modern colouring techniques. I work closely with Kev, the salon owner, and I get involved in all aspects of managing the salon – cutting hair, styling, client care, bookings,

Kevin Winstanley, owner of Egerton Hair & Beauty ‘Beth has been a breath of fresh air since the day she started with us, showing a level of dedication and commitment way beyond her years.’

‘Returning to education at the age of 27 was daunting, but the Apprenticeship has really built my confidence and given me focus for the future. I have a young family so being able to earn an income whilst learning new skills was the perfect solution for me. I work at Bolton Cares as an apprentice in the Administration Department. I’m involved in a wide variety of tasks and the diverse nature of the role has allowed me to develop enormously. One of my greatest achievements has been my progression in maths. At school I hated the subject but I love it now – something I never thought I would say! I’ve completed my Level 1 qualification and plan to do my GCSE next, then focus on training to become an Accountant in the future. I’m a prime example that you’re never too old for an Apprenticeship; age should never be a barrier to achievement. The structure and work ethic it’s

provided means I’m a good role model to my son. I work hard and it inspires him to work hard too.’

Lisa Antoni, Bolton Cares ‘Gemma is an extremely hardworking and valued member of our team and is known throughout the business as a go-to person; she’s always there to help and will always go the extra mile to ensure she meets the expectations of the person giving the task.’
