Jones ’03 Awarded Rising Star Award Carla Jones ’03 was presented with the 2016 Rising Star Award by Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry at the 16th Annual Jacksonville Film and Television Industry reception in September. The award is presented to remarkable film and television professionals under the age of 35. Honorees must excel in their specific craft, show progressive advancement in their careers, serve as role models and stand out as potential stars of the future. Jones is the CEO of Carla Mechele Media and has over 10 years of media experience, including work for First Coast News, ESPN, Inside Edition and Good Morning America. As an independent journalist she has covered Oprah’s The Life You Want Tour and McDonald’s 365 Black Awards. Her expertise ranges from television promotion to on-air personality. “I’d like to share that going to Bolles was a culture shock for me.” Jones said, “Being an African-American student from a middle income family, initially, I mainly saw differences between me and the majority of my fellow classmates. But, my mother, Yvonne Jones, told me ‘it’s your school as much as it is anyone else’s.’ And that gave me the confidence to not limit what I thought I could achieve.”
