his land was the cradle of some of the greatest civilizations that ever existed. Mayans, Toltecs, Olmecs, Zapotecs, Mixtecs, Teotihuacans, Purépechas, Totonacs, Huastecs, Chichimecas, Casas Grandes and Aztecs, among many more, set foot on this land. Their legacy is present in our gastronomy and traditions, in skin color and certain cultural penchants. A legacy that is also found in hundreds of languages spoken in Mexico, in addition to Spanish. These were cultures of architects and scientists, of astronomers and doctors, of urban planners and farmers, of warriors and merchants, that gave a remarkable face to their environment. They knew how to use nature without devastating it, and also knew how to coexist with the stars and the gods. Its most solid inheritance are constructions, which are scattered throughout the country. In this book, we talk about ten archeological areas that are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From the amazing Mayan constructions in the middle of the jungle in southern Mexico, to the seven-story buildings in the desert of Chihuahua up north, we present here the stony, overwhelming, fascinating and admirable testimony of those who preceded us.

Pisaron nuestro mismo suelo los mayas, toltecas, olmecas, zapotecas, mixtecas, teotihuacanos, purépechas, totonacas, huastecas, chichimecas, casas grandes y aztecas, entre muchos otros. Dejaron un legado histórico que se puede percibir en la gastronomía y las tradiciones, en el color de la piel y ciertos gustos culturales. Un legado que está también en cientos de lenguas que se hablan en el país, además del español. Fueron culturas de arquitectos y científicos, de astrónomos y médicos, de urbanistas y agricultores, de guerreros y comerciantes que le dieron un rostro notable a su entorno. Supieron aprovechar la naturaleza sin devastarla y, también, convivir con los astros y los dioses. La más sólida de sus herencias son las construcciones que están dispersas a todo lo ancho y largo del país. En este libro hablamos de diez sitios arqueológicos que fueron designados Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. Desde las alucinantes edificaciones mayas en medio de la selva al sur del país hasta los edificios de siete pisos en el desierto de Chihuahua, bien al norte, se muestra aquí el testimonio pétreo, desmedido, fascinante y admirable de quienes nos antecedieron.
