I am delighted to be back at the stunning Manchester Cathedral, after the amazing success of our first ever Pink Ribbon Ball, Manchester, last April. We raised an incredible £110,000, all in support of a cause that, sadly, many of us here tonight will be familiar with. Breast cancer touches the lives of millions in the UK. Too many mums, sisters, wives and friends are losing their lives to the disease every single day. By supporting Breast Cancer Now’s cutting-edge research, we can all do something to help stop this devastating disease taking the lives of the ones we love. Breast Cancer Now is a new charity, created by the merger of Breast Cancer Campaign and Breakthrough Breast Cancer, with a new approach – bringing together everyone affected by breast cancer, and all those working to fund research, share knowledge and find answers. We’re immensely proud to be working with them as they embark on a new era for breast cancer research. With your support this evening, we can ensure that there will be a time when everyone who is diagnosed with breast cancer lives.
I would like to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to the Pink Ribbon Ball Committee for their passion and hard work in organising what promises to be another unforgettable evening. Hopefully, together, we will beat last year’s total and raise even more for Breast Cancer Now. It just remains for me to say an enormous thank you to our supporters, to each table host for organising a table and, of course, to our prize donors for their fantastic generosity. A very warm welcome to our second annual Pink Ribbon Ball Manchester. I am delighted that you are able to be here with us for what promises to be a wonderful evening of entertainment and fundraising. Your support couldn’t have come at a more crucial time. More women are surviving breast cancer, but more are being diagnosed than ever before. Every single day, 139 women will be told they have breast cancer, and every 45 minutes, another woman in the UK will lose her life to the disease. It is time to act. Breast Cancer Now is the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, created by the merger of Breast Cancer Campaign and Breakthrough Breast Cancer. By 2050, we believe that breast cancer will have taken its last life – but only if we all act now. Our first ever Pink Ribbon Ball in Manchester last year raised an incredible £110,000 to help our researchers keep working to find new ways to prevent, detect and treat breast cancer. This year, we’re hoping to go even further. Every pound raised will get us one step closer to the day when everyone who develops breast cancer lives.
