Red & Black Angus Yearling Bulls...
Triple L Angus and J & S Cattle Nutrition Program designed by Blair’s
Blair’s Crop & Livestock Solutions is pleased to provide you with the details of the nutrition program for Triple L Angus and J&S Cattle. While the bulls were each managed in their respective herds, the nutrition program was similar for each group. Bull Development Program: Both Triple L and J&S started out developing their bulls by putting them on a Built In Roughage (BIR) Calf Creep pellet. BIR is a high fiber pellet that increases the digestible NDF and aids in rumen development. The BIR pellet is also fortified with a mineral and vitamin package to keep the immune system strong. Both Triple L and J&S bulls were weaned in late summer / early fall and remained on the BIR Calf Creep pellet until the beginning of September when they were transitioned to Blair’s Grower Developer pellet. This pellet is designed to properly grow the bulls out, ensuring lean muscle development, before putting on any external fat. For the last 90 days, both groups were transitioned to Blair’s Bull Developer pellet. This is a 100% whole grain pellet comprised primarily of corn and barley and does not contain any screening products. It is a high protein pellet that includes bypass protein for lean muscle development along with high fiber to ensure high rumen digestibility and efficient gain. This pellet contains chelated minerals which will assist in the digestion and absorption of the mineral component. In addition, it contains Diamond V Yeast which aids in the rumen fermentation process, contributing to the digestion of roughages. FlaxLic’s were placed in the bull pens 60 days prior to the sale. FlaxLic’s are a high fat supplement, containing omega-3 fatty acids derived from flaxseed and edible linseed (flaxseed) oil that are designed to improve growth and semen quality. I am confident that the nutrition program designed for these bulls will ensure growth, development and longevity. Most importantly, you can buy these bulls with the confidence that Randy and Jason have made sound nutritional decisions to develop these bulls. After The Sale: It is important to protect the long term genetic value of the yearling bull you are purchasing. Keep in mind, a lot is expected of yearling bulls; they are growing bone and muscle and developing reproductively. When you turn your yearling bull out with the females for breeding, it is important to balance off the terrain he is expected to perform in and the total number of females he is expected to breed. While on pasture we recommend that your bull and females have access to a good quality free choice mineral at all times. Finally, we would encourage that depending on your calving timeframe, he be removed from the pasture a maximum of 90 - 100 days after exposure and be put back onto a high quality forage diet with some grain for his continued growth and development. Once your bull has reached maturity (i.e. 3 years of age), putting grain in his diet should no longer be a requirement as long as he has access to high quality forages and has access to a good quality mineral throughout the year. I would be pleased to answer any questions you may have about the nutrition program the Triple L and J&S bulls have been developed on before the sale and about the nutrition program we would encourage you to consider after the breeding season.
