On behalf of all of us here at Black Gold Simmental, we would like to welcome you to our annual bull

and female sale. We would like to thank you for the interest in our program, and taking the time to go through our catalog. This coming sale will be our third bull sale hosted at the farm, although we have been selling bulls for 25+ years and this is something that we are very passionate about. Each year we are overwhelmed with the support of new and existing customers, and we are always doing everything we can to advance our program and produce the highest quality product for you, our valued customers. The last three months have been quite something, with an extremely mild fall and early part of winter, to a short lived cold spell that presented us with some of the coldest temperatures we have ever seen. But we really cannot complain, as we have never bedded or fed as little as we did in the last sixty days of 2023. The mild temperatures and no snow allowed us to keep our bulls in larger areas a lot later than we have been able to in the past. It was a different site seeing our bulls climb the hills and explore 80 acres of bare ground during the Christmas season, but we sure enjoyed it. The mild temperatures also made it easier for us to get around and attend all the fall shows and exhibit the best of our breeding program. We were honored this year to have both the Supreme Champion Yearling Heifer in the First Lady Classic and Supreme Champion Female in the CN Beef Supreme at Agribition. Our offering for 2024 is our largest to date, and possibly the most consistent all the way through. In our fullblood division, the majority of the bulls are sired by NAC Battle Cry 4F and SBV Reputation 707F. The old saying “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” seems fitting here, as these two sires consistently crank out quality progeny for us and offer breeding versatility on both cows and heifers. In saying that, our 138L Battle Cry son would be one of our favorite Battle Cry progeny we have ever produced, and the first fullblood bull to make our show string in quite some time. The Reputation sons are very deep with several features and quality bulls in this group, and one homozygous polled powerhouse, 14L. On our purebred side we offer some very new and outcross genetics with a few new herdsires. WFL Mountain View 4J has a rookie calf crop of bulls that are unlike any sire group we have ever had in our red/black division. Being mostly off heifers, he sires a group of sons that are so consistent in quality, colour, structure, fleshing ability, and hair. KWA Holyfield 96J brings a smaller sire group for his rookie year, but one red baldy son sure has impressed us this year and is among the best we have ever raised. A handful of feature black bulls are sired by the $230 000 KCC1 Countertime and $150 000 RF Caliber 014G. All of these bulls are backed by some of our best donors like KDP Miss Hoya Hayleigh, RF Certainly Flirtin 532C, Black Gold Ms Ava 125F, and IRCC Foxtrot 862F.

Each year an extensive AI and ET program allows us to source some of the best genetics available. This also allows us to move our program in the right direction at a more rapid pace, and we enjoy seeing the influence made by some of our best donor cows in just a single year. We also take purchasing herd bulls very seriously, and often do everything possible to ensure that we are buying the best available, that are backed by the right kind of cows. We strive to produce cattle that don’t just excel in a single trait, but rather have a balanced set of quality traits throughout. We work extensively with Ryley and the entire team at Bullseye Feeds to develop our bulls. Our bulls are fed a high roughage TMR ration from weaning on, with the goal of developing them slowly with longevity in mind. Our cowherd is also on a full mineral program year round, as nutrition is something we pay close attention to and always put emphasis on. We guarantee that these bulls are structurally sound and have passed a semen test by a licensed veterinarian, unless otherwise stated in our supplement sheet prior to sale. he Noble Family of Black Gold Simmental have gone over and beyond breeding and assembling their 2024 Bull and Female offering. The same great quality you have known to get from the BGS operation and then some would best describe their largest and most consistent set of Simmental cattle available to the public. After a record “banner” year that saw the Black Gold crew and their partners capture the Supreme First Lady Classic and CN Beef Supreme Champion Female Title at Canadian Western Agribition, they have certainly followed it up with this outstanding set of bulls and impressive set of open heifers. We are proud to welcome you on behalf of the entire Black Gold Family and all of us from Bohrson Marketing to this years edition. The bread and butter of the operation has always been the Fullblood cattle and this years set of bulls in this division are as cookie cutter in type and kind as anywhere you will see. The BGS “mold” or “kind” is made up in 3 simple words. Colour, hair and structure are at the most importance when they source their fullblood cattle and as you analyze the stout set of Battle Cry, Reutation, Cargo and 48H sons, you will quickly see they are all rich in haricots, pigment and phenotype. Use these bulls to add some pounds and performance to your calf crop without sacrificing the maternal characteristics the Noble family have worked so hard to breed into their cattle. The Purebred, red and black bulls on offer are as intriguing and deep in quality as we have ever seen them put together. The rookie calf crops off of big time acquisitions such as WFL Mountainview 4J and KWA Holyfield 96J have blown through the doors of expectation and offer new blood to those of you that have been buying your red and black bulls here for some time. The big time donor females the Nobles have in their possession are well represented with an array of impressive sons by Hoya Hayleigh, Certainly Flirtin 532C, Foxtrot 862F as well as HLTS Sammie after their purchase of her entire embryo bank in 2022. These bulls in this section of the catalogue offer so much maternal richness and are the type of bulls to utilize to cash in on those sought after replacement females and are also bred with performance so their sons will absolutely crush the scales down when it comes time to sell your steers. The open replacement heifers on offer are always an exciting part of this great sale. Once again we initiate the offering with one of the best walking herd bulls we have had here. It doesn’t matter if it’s for use on heifers, cows, or donors, Battle Cry doesn’t seem to miss. We are now calving several Battle Cry daughters, and we are very impressed with the udder quality of these females. Battle Cry himself is one of the most impressive mature bulls in our battery, with awesome feet, incredible dark red colour, and a powerful yet smooth phenotype. We are excited once again to leadoff our spring sale with this sire group.

NON-DILUTOR, SCURRED. We initiate this year’s catalog with a Battle Cry son that we feel does a lot right. Dark red, lots of pigment and thick hair, and off a top end Reputation x Bryck first calver. We always brag about how high we are on our Bryck daughters and his ability to improve udders, but the same can be said for Reputation. We have calved two years of Reputation daughters now and they are easy to pick out and the kind we look forward to building around. 222J goes back to 51X who was a cornerstone female here for ten years, and put a son in the powerful herd bull battery of Rendezvous Farms and a $30 000 daughter through The Evolution in the fall.

NON-DILUTOR’S. It’s not very often that we will keep two twin bulls around and target them for our bull sale, but these two always impressed us so we decided to give them a shot. We are sure happy we did as these are two moderate framed, big bodied, large scrotalled, good footed herd bulls in the making, who rank in the top 20% for calving ease. 91D came from the famed Gagnon program in Quebec, and stems from one of the most potent cow families in the entire breed, the Kananaskis family. She is an awesome footed, big bodied, easy doing female who we look forward to calving out each year. In 2021, her feature son was sold to Simon and Rose Bodurka of Vermilion.

NON-DILUTOR. There is no doubt that 138L has been a favorite around here for quite some time, and for us it comes as no surprise when you study his pedigree. The Battle Cry x Stuey combination is something we have done over and over here and with great success. Two bulls that throw so much blood red colour, great temperaments, foot quality, and just overall phenotype, we think 138L carries all of these traits and more. He’s long bodied, smooth made, and flexible, but remains powerful in his muscle pattern and body shape. It’s been quite a few years since we have shown a fullblood bull, but 138L made the trip to Agribition with us and ended up second in class against a tough group of red and black bulls. We have four maternal sisters retained in our herd to 138L and a great looking, polled full sister born here in 2024. 54E is a cow that offers extra frame and length with a good udder underneath her. 138L is exactly the kind of bull that we strive to raise year after year, and we believe he has a lot to offer.

NON-DILUTOR. As much as we talk about how 138L was a favorite his entire life, 28L was the bigger version of him that impressed us just as much. I can’t remember us ever having a fullblood bull that stood apart from the rest in terms of sheer growth, length of body, maturity, and performance. He again carries that awesome colour and haircoat, typical of the Battle Cry x Stuey combination. 54F is one of our favorite cows and stems back to one of our most elite donor cows, Janis 3W. 3W is the dam of the $67 000 Black Gold Crude that sold to Virginia Ranch, and has twenty registered progeny in the CSA. 54F herself was flushed last spring, and bred back next cycle giving us a full brother to 28L mid-January. Her udder quality, colour and pigment, and length of body is beyond intriguing to us and we look forward to building around her in the future. 28L is a definite power bull who stands on a great foot, is huge scrotalled, and still ranks in the top 15% for calving ease.

Initially, this was mostly because his maternal brother was our high selling bull last year, going to Westgold Farms for $72 000. As 246L has developed, he brings his own quality to the table and has so many of the desirable traits that his brother had last year. 246L is only a mid-February bull who is extremely long bodied, sound structured, and has that impressive herd bull look. But yet he’s also big hipped, soft made, and performance driven with an over 1500 lb adjusted yearling weight. 41H was flushed after calving in 2022 to Sugar Ray, and left us with two feature sons later in this catalog, and six impressive daughters that top our current yearling heifer pen. We could go on and on about how much we love 41H, as we believe she is one of the few cows that you could paint any colour or make any breed, and she’s always going to be the high end kind. There is no doubt that Mountain View is the highest quality, most consistent producing purebred bull that we have ever owned. After seeing him at Westways in the spring of 2022, and then seeing the elite bald faced donor dam behind him, he was a must own for us. Over the past few years we have been trying extensively to advance our red program to another level, and the acquisition of the $40 000 WFL Mountain View is proving to do just that. 74L is an absolute standout and has been his entire life, which we find unique for a bull who started with just an 84 lb birth weight. 74L is a blood red, great haired performance bull. He’s so long bodied yet still soft and big ribbed, stout pinned and wide topped, but still smooth blending throughout. His ability to handle this power with an attractive, up-headed herd bull look is impressive to us, as he floats around the pen with plenty of ease. 74L ranks in the top 25% for CE and 30% for BW, as many calving ease sires are found in his pedigree such as Crossroads Black Rebel and KWA FLYF Red Mountain. We typically wouldn’t sell many March born bulls in our sale, but when they not only performed with the rest of the pen, but stood out, we figured he should be in this year’s sale. 286L is probably the widest bodied, biggest hipped, biggest topped bull that we have on offer. It’s with his added width all the way throughout that allows him to perform at a high level, with an adjusted yearling weaning weight of over 900 lbs and yearling weight over 1530 lbs. The same kind of blood, cherry red colour, deep rib shape, fleshing ability, and attractive yet masculine head and crest. Walk the Line is the past $280 000 Friday Night Lights high seller, and his first calf crop has topped almost every sale this past fall, and almost every class or division at the major shows this past fall. I would expect these spring bull sales to be no different. We only let one full sister to these brothers go last fall, and she was our high selling female going to Jorgensen Land and Cattle for $46 000. These bulls exhibit great hair coats, awesome foot structure, muscle and dimension throughout, and are masculine yet smooth through their head, neck, and shoulder. It’s hard to know where to really start and end on a bull like 31L, as he truly is so hard to fault and combines so many traits that in our opinion make him unique and a definite game changer. First off, this bulls ability to continuously get better at every stage of his life has been fun to watch and we don’t feel he is at all slowing down. 31L is one big ended, wide pinned, muscular bull who is huge through his center body, and from the side is still so soft and deep in his lower rib. We love how he transitions from his wide body, into a bold fore rib and forearm, smooth shoulder, and wide chest floor. His crest and skull is smooth yet masculine; he has had that herd bull look from a young age. Now to handle it as well as he does is another thing, as structurally this bull is very accurate in the way he fills his track on the move and travels with such authority. People often assume our “show bulls” get treated differently than the rest, but that’s not the case. They stay on the same ration as the rest before, during, and after the shows, and have never got their feet trimmed just like the rest of the pen. 31L is currently our heavyweight in the entire offering, with an actual yearling weight of over 1500 lbs, and a weaning weight epd in the top 15% of the breed. His dam is a very high quality black blazed face female, with a ton of rib and body, good feet, and an awesome udder. We feel 31L’s performance driven, impressive phenotype, combined with an outcross pedigree for red cattle, make him one of the most intriguing bulls we have ever offered for sale.

He’s sound on the move and holds his head high with a “look at me” attitude. 13L’s dam is one of our oldest producing cows, and one we have built a very solid cow family off of. She’s a big bodied, dark red, good uddered cow who obviously has some longevity advantages. Holyfield is a past $72 000 high seller coming from the Ashworth program, that we were able to purchase alongside the Waltz family of W2 Land and Cattle. Holyfield is one of the longest bodied, best footed bulls we have ever used. In 2023, we bred every black first calver to Holyfield due to his calving ease, and the quality of his offspring. His first sire group isn’t huge in numbers, but we think it is a good representation of what he can do, as he is the sire of our feature red baldy show bull, 31L. HOMO POLLED, HOMO BLACK. We are pretty excited to bring the first ever offering of sons from the great Triple-Crown Winning Hoya Hayleigh. We have always said she is so much more than a show heifer, and we think these trio of brothers will prove that. 305L is the youngest bull in the entire offering. All year, we said we were going to keep him to market at a later date due to his March 16th birth date. As time went on he continued to grow and grow and mature, and now you would never guess he’s over two months younger than a lot of the bulls. Another true performance son of Countertime, 305L ranks in the top two of our entire pen for adjusted weaning and yearling weight, and top 15% for both CE and YW. This guy is very long spined, big hipped, stout legged, and great haired. We loved watching this bull early on, when the ground was bare with dirt. His feet are so big and square and he flat out motors across the pen with ease. A full sister to 305L tops our replacement pen and is a contender to get a halter on her sometime in the future. Don’t overlook 305L due to his age, we feel he is a unique herdsire prospect.

256L HOMO POLLED, HOMO BLACK – 261L HOMO POLLED, HOMO BLACK. As we talk about mating decisions on Hayleigh, Caliber was one of the easiest bulls to use and we are sure happy we did. There is no doubt Caliber is currently the hottest bull in the breed, and for good reason, as both sexes of his offspring seem to excel in terms of power, body, look, and hair quality. These two brothers exhibit a powerful, easy doing body shape and depth of rib, with a very flexible structure and big solid feet. They are early maturing through their skull and crest and still rugged in their build. Once again, we have a full sister in the replacement pen that would be amongst the top, and was halterbroke early on. This pair of brothers would be on our younger end as well, but have sure impressed us as of late and think they are only getting better with time. The maternal genetics behind these bulls are truly remarkable combining the Supreme Champion 202Z who is nearing a million dollars in generating revenue, and the National Champion, Triple Crown winning Hayleigh, who produced over $300 000 in her first seven calves to hit the market.

His added body, performance, and muscling is coupled with an awesome look from the side and a flexible build, with the biggest adjusted yearling weight of the offering reading 1605 lbs. He is the natural calf off Darlin 4H, and was born just a couple short months after she was named Supreme Female at Farmfair and went undefeated in the Simmental shows all fall, hence the bit of added birthweight. Darlin 4H is the ideal donor for us with a perfect udder, feminine look, awesome build, and powerful body shape with a deep sweeping rib cage. We love her kind and can’t wait to build around her. So far, four direct daughters have sold off 4H to average just shy of $30 000.
