Estate Planning There are many ways to support Sayre financially. Peyton Tierney, ’89, chose to give by purchasing a life insurance policy. “To show my appreciation for the education I received at Sayre, I made it the beneficiary of my policy. Doing so enabled me to create a permanently-endowed scholarship in my sister’s honor. It is very gratifying to know that I’ll be helping someone else attend Sayre.” The use of life insurance to make charitable gifts can be an effective and cost-efficient means of fulfilling charitable intentions without making a sizable donation while alive. Depending on the type of insurance and the nature of the gift, charitable donations involving life insurance often can result in income tax deductions for the donor and future value to the charitable recipient. If you have more insurance coverage than you need, you may consider giving Sayre School a paid-up policy. By transferring the ownership of your policy to Sayre, you receive a charitable income tax deduction equal to the policy’s cash surrender value or cost basis, whichever is less. Please contact the Development Office at (859) 254-1361 for information on gift strategies that can help you support Sayre while providing significant benefits to you and your family.
