From the Headmaster
s a math teacher, I know and love numbers. I believe they can validate, persuade and inform. As Headmaster of Blue Ridge School, I understand our annual
giving numbers mean a great deal because they provide a snapshot of how our school is
performing and gauge how you, our alumni, parents and friends, feel about our school.
The levels in which you participated in the 2009-2010 Annual Giving Year give me great pride
and assure me that you feel the School is worthy of your support. During a time when the numbers painted a bleak picture of our economy, you were loyal to our school and its mission, and I cannot begin to tell you how grateful the boys of Blue
Ridge and I are for your contributions. Total giving increased by 17% from 2008-2009, we increased our number of donors, and the Annual Fund
program exceeded its goal by 9% - OUTSTANDING! On behalf of the Blue Ridge School community, please accept my sincere gratitude.
It’s often said that numbers do not lie, and this year’s report is a
testament of that. The numbers show our school thriving. As supporters of Blue Ridge School, you have much of which to be proud. Blue Ridge School
students continue to serve the community, work hard in the classroom and become well-rounded men through their participation in the arts, athletics
and outdoor programs. You will also be pleased to know that, even in these financially difficult times, we opened the school year with full enrollment. However, our success can be measured by more than numbers.
Behind these remarkable percentages, figures and dollar amounts, there is an abundance of stories about students whose lives have been forever
changed by your generosity. Each year, your contribution allows us to fill the gap between tuition costs and actual operating costs of the School.
Without programs like the Annual Fund, we would not be able to provide
young men the opportunities so vital to the Blue Ridge experience. You have helped make minds, bodies and souls reach for the limits of their potential.

2009-2010 was a banner fundraising year! Some highlights of the 2009-2010 giving year at Blue Ridge School include: Total giving to all funds increased by 17% over the previous year.
Total gifts to the Annual Unrestricted Fund increased by 57% over the previous year.

The 2009-2010 Annual Fund Program exceeded its goal for the year by 9%. 13 classes reached over 25% participation during 2009-2010: 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1981 and 1989.
The average gift increased from $1,491.00 in 20082009 to $1,674.00 in 2009-2010.
The number of total donors increased in 2009-2010 to 999 versus 956 in the previous year.

s the newly-elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to take this opportunity to thank you for your
support of Blue Ridge School in the 2009-2010 school year. In spite of the very difficult national economic environment, the total gifts given by you increased from last year, which means
that we will be able to continue to make a difference in young men’s lives and move forward with our goals and plans this year.
After being in the information technology world for four
totaled $933,904.75, an increase of $79,990.32 over last year.
We need to continue increasing donations to the Annual Fund so that we can supplement tuition revenue, fill operational
needs for faculty, financial aid for students, and needs in extracurricular activities, academic programs, and the arts.
In order to change lives and build futures, we need to
continue to increase alumni participation in the Annual
Fund. In 2009-2010, 17% of our alumni (in classes from
1943 to 2010) contributed to the Fund; we hope to grow the
participation to 30% this year. Frankly, I know we can do this
decades, most of which was as a senior executive for Honeywell because I know how special Blue Ridge is to our many alumni. I encourage all alumni to give a donation that works within your Information Systems in the international arena, I came to be involved with Blue Ridge School. My husband and I were drawn means. The Annual Fund is the lifeblood of the School.
Funds from annual giving go directly into the operating budget. These help pay for a wide variety of items, such as creating new programs of study, supporting the social activities program, meeting the needs of the athletic and fine arts programs, and ensuring that the School maintains a balanced budget. In addition to the actual dollar amount raised each year, the over-all participation level is an important guide for major donors. Blue Ridge School solicits corporations, foundations, and major individual donors throughout the year. They consider, in their deliberations for setting their gift amounts, the percentage of participation in the Annual Fund from our many constituent groups – so every gift counts!
