Brian Rucker Assistant Coach Second Year

Brian Rucker is in his second season as an assistant coach for Presbyterian College, heading up a group of talented wide receivers. In 2010, as the wide receivers coach, his group hauled in 2,596 yards and caught 16 touchdowns. His receivers had big-play capabilities, accounting for multiple receptions over 50 yards. Sophomore Patrick McKoy earned allconference accolades after tallying a team-best 615 yards on a team-high 47 receptions. He also caught four touchdown passes, including the first-ever points in the Harold Nichols’ era. Rucker came to PC after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at South Atlantic Conference member Lenoir-Rhyne. There, Rucker coached the tight ends during his first season and oversaw the development of the wide receiver corps in his second year. Prior to Lenoir-Rhyne, Rucker coached at Western Carolina. As a full-time assistant during the last two seasons with the Catamounts, he coached Lamont Reid, who signed with the Tennessee Titans and Darius Fudge, who was just the sixth student-athlete in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season. In 2004, Rucker was a student assistant in the athletic department’s academic enhancement program. A four-year letterwinner at Western Carolina, Rucker finished his collegiate career with 44 receptions tallying 558 yards. A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Rucker helped Mount Tabor H.S. to back-to-back Central Piedmont Class 4-A conference titles as an upperclassman. During his senior season, he hauled in 27 passes for 525 yards, earning all-conference, all-county and allregion accolades. Rucker earned his undergraduate degree in business administration in 2004.

Brandon Sarver begins his third season on the PC staff as the tight ends coach. Prior to coming to Clinton, S.C., Sarver worked with the Wake Forest football team for five years. In his last year with the Demon Deacons, he held the title of football operations assistant. In 2005, he served as a defensive graduate assistant and in 2006 he served Coach Jim Grobe’s ACC Championship Wake Forest staff as an offensive graduate assistant. During his first year, he coached NFL players Josh Gattis, Alphonso Smith and future NFL defensive backs Chip Vaughn and Eric King. In 2006, he worked with the offensive line and tight ends, including coaching NFL players Steve Justice, Steve Vallos and John Tereschinski. Sarver previously worked under assistant athletic director Bill Faircloth as a volunteer in 2003. In 2007, he served as a recruiting assistant under assistant coach Ray McCartney. A 2003 graduate of the University of Georgia, Sarver received dual degrees, a B.B.A. in management and B.S.Ed. in sport studies with a concentration in business. Sarver was a letterman under both Jim Donnan and Mark Richt at Georgia. He was a defensive back on four straight bowl teams. While at Georgia, Sarver played with over 40 future NFL players. He has played with or coached six NFL tight ends. A native of Bluefield, W. Va., Sarver captained the 1997 Bluefield H.S. team to a 14-0 state championship season as the starting quarterback and free safety. Sarver is married to the former Aimee Smith of Atlanta, Ga. They have a son, William.
