Sample Workbook to Accompany Professional Sewing Techniques for Designers The Sample Workbook to Accompany Professional Sewing Techniques for Designers (ISBN 978-1-60901-8801) consists of project instructions and worksheets in a three-hole binder for convenient storage. Using these resources, students can store sewn sample garment details and record design information for design projects. The workbook includes: • Instructions for each project that list the supplies and tasks needed to prepare the samples. • Clear cross references to sewing techniques in the textbook, Professional Sewing Techniques for Designers, 2nd Edition, and the supplementary half-scale patterns available to complete projects.

• 80 Stitching Technique Worksheets made of card stock for durable sample mounting and space to attach sample and label sewing techniques, fabric type, fiber content, lining type, interfacing type, stitching order, stitch length; also notes on where to use the stitching technique on a garment and stitching mistakes. • New worksheets will be included. They will help students comprehensively plan and complete garment sewing activities and correct stitching order. Other new worksheets on how to pad the form to personal measurements are also included in the workbook. As students use the workbook to practice the sewing techniques, it becomes an ongoing resource and part of the design student’s fashion library. A Sample Workbook (ISBN 978-1-60901-8801) is available in a three-ring binder as a compan-

ion to this text. The workbook gives the student an opportunity to put into practice many of the stitching techniques outlined in the textbook, Professional Sewing Techniques for Designers. When your assignment skill level has been determined by the instructor, use the corresponding half-scale patterns provided online to stitch the samples. Patterns names are indicated in parentheses next to assignments that require them.

Half-Scale Patterns Each pattern has its own unique name. When a pattern is needed for a particular assignment, “(pattern )” will be written next to that assignment and indicates the pattern name. This means that a pattern needs to be downloaded before the sample can be stitched. These can be accessed from the pdf file on the Fairchild Books website, http://www.bloomsbury.com/us/sampleworkbook-to-accompany-professional-sewingtechniques-for-designers-9781609018801/ Many of the patterns are used for several assignments; for example, kick pleat is the same pattern used to stitch the hem split. The pattern piece includes the names of all the techniques it can be used for, and after downloaded can be kept in the workbook for other assignments. All the skills covered in the textbook and sample workbook are necessary for a career in fashion design. Think of how your work is a reflection of who you are as a designer, and what your work ethic is; and remember, there is no good design without good construction!
