ANNOUNCING OUR NEW STRATEGIC PLAN

The five proposed priorities, in non-ranked order, are:

CREATE A COMMUNITY COMMITTED TO STUDENT SUCCESS AND ENRICH, ENHANCE AND STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY CORE VALUES

GROW AND DIVERSIFY REVENUE STREAM TO THE INSTITUTION

AAs Bloomfield College charts its course in a new transformative era of its 151-year history, it must determine its position in the local, regional, and global community. The College’s new strategic plan will not only assess the multiple challenges and changes affecting the higher education landscape, it will also outline the Institution’s immediate path as a national leader in the education and success of minority students.

“I am excited to announce the launch of our new strategic plan, put in place to unleash the special power of Bloomfield College,” said Dr. Marcheta P. Evans, Bloomfield College President. “Created by Trustees, faculty, students, staff, alumni, and members of our external community, our plan will set the course for the future of Bloomfield College.”

The College’s newly-formed Strategic Planning Council (SPC) has announced five proposed priorities as part of its college-wide strategic plan. The SPC is comprised of individuals who were selected to serve on the council, including Dr. Evans; Trustees; the vice presidents of the College; numerous faculty and staff; student representatives, and members of Bloomfield Township. Dr. Patrick Lamy, Vice President for Student Affairs and Community Relations, and Matt Frankel, a media, government affairs, and crisis management

strategist who was brought on as a consultant, act as co-chairs of the SPC.

“We, along with members of the SPC, believe these priorities encompass the input we received from the community,” said the co-chairs in a written statement. “The priorities embody a powerful set of commitments that will allow us to determine an updated and realistic vision and direction for the future of Bloomfield College.”

The SPC developed the following five proposed strategic priorities after engaging Trustees, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members through surveys, meetings, and town halls. The Council also relied on an extensive review of campus performance data and previous plans, studies, and reports to inform the strategic priorities.

Founded in 1868, the College’s past achievements and experiences helped bring Bloomfield College to its present day as a nationally recognized institution known for providing access and opportunities to students who may have been historically and systematically excluded from the world of higher education.

CAMPUSNEWSROOM E-Sports Center Opens

O

On Wednesday, October 9, Bloomfield College unveiled its new Bloomfield Bears E-Sports Center on campus.

E-sports is a rapidly growing field of competitive video gaming. The College announced earlier in 2019 that it was joining the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). The ECAC has 57 schools participating in e-sports this year. Funding for the new program was made possible by the generosity of Bloomfield College Trustee Joanne Marren.

To participate, students must be enrolled full-time at the College and working toward a degree. The addition of an e-sports program is intended to promote a holistic approach to the college experience, while attracting students who possess skills including critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork, which are transferable to success in the classroom and workforce. The Frances M. McLaughlin Division of Nursing at Bloomfield College has added another recognition to its name.

Skyfactor Benchworks, a Macmillan Learning Company that provides research-based program benchmarking and assessments to help colleges identify areas of improvement, named Bloomfield College among the winners of its inaugural Assessment and Impact Awards for Nursing Education.

According to the press release, the award was created to highlight schools of nursing that are successfully using data to improve their programs, helping to retain students and developing more practice-ready nursing professionals. “Our faculty within the Bloomfield College Division of Nursing are an outstanding group of educators who work to make our program great,” said Dr. Neddie Serra, Chair of the Division at the College. “I would like to give special mention to faculty members Dr. Ismat Mikky and the recently retired Dr. Carolyn Tuella for their work on our internal Research and Evaluation Committee. They are responsible for administering and analyzing the information from the Skyfactor Assessments.”

The winners, which also included Colorado Technical University, Rowan University and Seton Hall University, were selected using Benchworks’ multi-step evaluation process that included an analysis of multi-year assessment data that identified programs that either had the best results or best increases in performance in areas like course interactions and quality of instruction, as well as interviews with nursing program faculty and administration.
